This is a good place for a Japanese, sushi, izikaya joint. This is an EXCELLENT place for a Japanese, sushi, izikaya joint for Happy Hour. The HH for summer runs from 4-Close. Very nice considering Portland Happy Hours like to end at 6PM. Does Portland have something against 7 oclock? HH is available on the sushi bar side. The sushi bar also has tables for families. This means happy hour food specials are available to all ages! My foodie kids dont get penalized for being under 21. The happy hour time and availability to all is SUPER 5 STAR WORTHY. The menu ranges from 2-8 dollars. I would have appreciated more sushi roll options. They only offer 4 hand rolls, and 4 sushi rolls on the HH menu. The rest is good Japanese izikaya fare. The food was good but a little too "happy hour sized" (Half price food for quarter size portion) for me. The sushi tart is a great buy even though the name and presentation is confusing. It was cooked salmon mixed with sushi rice with some sauce and topped with salmon roe. The spicy hamachi roll was the best sushi item on the HH menu. I perused the rest of their menu. I was appalled by one thing. The price of their ramen...or I should say, the price of Portland ramen. It was $10-$13 just like the other handful of restaurants trying to create a boujie ramen craze. Can people stop saying authentic ramen in Portland? (Getting on my SoCal soapbox). Ramen is a comfort food that should not start at 10 bucks. Ive been to ramen houses in LA that simmer the broth for 10 hours. That authentic ramen is only $7. Where does Portland get off on charging so much for ramen? Just because PDXers dont know any better? Portland get off your Ramen high horse and I will get off my SoCal ramen soapbox. Whew. Had to get that off my chest. I love their summer happy hour time of 4-Close and it is perfect to take your family out for some upscale happy hour food without the 21+ bar restriction.

The restaurant has great atmosphere, and really cute waiters and cashiers. But the Tokyo Ramen was a little disappointing. The broth for the Ramen, which was chicken tasted like Au Jus, same stuff you get when you get a prime rib dip at red robin. So a little to salty. The services felt really good, the waiters came by many times to check if everything was ok, very professional and a high level of courtesy. How ever the food tasted kind of bland, the sushi was kind of ok. The tuna roll was good, the salmon roll was really weird, not like any other salmon rolls I have ever eaten. It had like really weird random dried fish flakes on top which where ok, but felt kind of out of place. The sushi it self tasted kind of empty with not enough salmon in the salmon roll. I was left wondering where is the salmon in a salmon roll. The cali roll was also pretty alright. Sushi ville is a good example of good Sushi. As for a good Ramen place, I would recommend Takahashi, they have literally the best Ramen. The dish is called, "The best Ramen in the world" and so far I would agree. The selection was alright, Wish we had more choices for Ramen. Havent had a chance to look at there desert, but Im sure its pretty good. Best Regards, Sergey Smolentsev

I will not be going to eat at this place again. We decided to eat here for Thanksgiving dinner and had to wait almost 45 minutes after placing our order for the waitress to come back and tell us that there was only one chef in the kitchen and that it would be a little longer until our food came out. She did give us complimentary wonton noodles to snack on which were greasy and overly salted but managed to control my hunger for the time being. My food arrived about 15 minutes later although it was the only dish that was served and there was no miso soup with it although the menu says it comes with it. The other guests at my table did not get their food until about 15 minutes after I had received mine. My friend who ordered veggie tempura (it is listed as a substitution on the menu) received her meal with no dipping sauce that it usually comes with because the sauce is fish based. That would have been fine if she had known beforehand that there was no veggie sauce replacement. Overall the food was subpar and the service was even more disappointing. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone whos looking for a good quality meal.

Very nice establishment. Service was very prompt and attentive. Atmosphere was a bit too authentic and leaning on the cliche side. The Taiko drum may have been a bit much. The food was really well done. I ordered the Tokyo Ramen and Rainbow Roll. The ramen was not what Id come to expect from other establishments. It was good soup, but not ramen. Broth was a bit on the beef broth side, almost something from a carton with some personal touches. Noodles were extemely well done, dare I say some of the best Ive had. Unfortunately the broth downplayed a lot of the meal. The Rainbow Roll on the other hand was amazing. The Salmon and Tuna used was very good as well as the Avocado (surprising since they are not really in season). The rice may have been a bit on the dry side and the wasabi was a little dulled down. Overall, not a bad place to have a hot bowl of noodles and a tasty sushi roll. Definitely a place I will visit again.

I had a whole bunch of things here. Octopus and cucumber salad with vinegar, gyoza, the dragon roll, and the hand-rolled veggy roll. The other members of my party had some ramen, salad rolls, and a tofu hotpot. No one had any complaints. Praise all around! The atmosphere is great, too. You sit on raised tables with beanbag seats in little booths. Very comfortable. Our server was also the dessert chef and let us know that the desserts rotate frequently (I mean, he should know). This place is right across from Southpark and, prices and quality considered, I would go to this place any day of the week over Southpark. I dont remember anything on the menu exceeding $15.00 and yet it was all fantastic. Definitely one of the best places I have been to in terms of price, food quality, and atmosphere. Just a really solid restaurant.

One of my favorite places to go for great flavorful food (noodle bowls and sushi), and for the ambiance. I recommend this as a place where everything on the menu should be "discovered" with return visits. They also have a decent selection of sake. I will definitely go back again. Just a heads up, the Zen Booths are best suited for people who are okay sitting crossed legged for an extended period of time (you can stretch them out under the table if the other guests are okay with it). You do sit on padded chairs, with very short legs, but you still have to bend your knees for an extended period of time. You do have a curtain you can close, in case you like the feel of privacy. You can also sit in regular booths, at tables, and at the sushi bar. I think they also have one private family size room, and one large private room.

Serving up some amazingly fresh nigiri/sashima with plenty of other options as well, ranging from chicken teriyaki to bowls of steamy ramen or udon noodle, this location catered to us well for an evening walkin. We were seated according to our preferences by the polite and effective host in the lovely ambiance of their decorated booths, which he quickly made available for us upon inquiry. Enjoying their complimentary green tea, I ordered one of their several sakes from a lost of 15-20 (Snow Maiden Nigori - one of my favs). I has the Tokyo Ramen bowl, a couple of their limited number of rolls (real crab Cali being one) and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Our server was great and never failed to ensure our meal was progressing smoothly. Thanks and will see you again someday! Best, ~S
