I am really rooting for Ruddick / Wood. I am really excited how they did a kickstarter campaign to get started. They did a great job remodeling. The food is great. The thing is Newberg has many great local restaurants with outstanding food with amazing ambiance. I am hoping Ruddick / Wood finds a way to standout. Give me a reason to go there over the other great restaurants. So far Ruddick / Wood has not hit that bar for me. I was hoping for some more value. It is tough to eat out well in Newberg and not break your bank (unlike the foody town of Portland). Value is hope. Even just an amazing happy hour. But there are many other things they could do to standout. Two other things that drive me a bit nuts about Ruddick / Wood (I have been there a few times). It is really cold in the bar area. I have never been able to take my jacket off. At least for lunch service they do not offer table service (in the bar). I was recently there. I walked in and there were a total of one other table. The bartender told us that we had to come up and order from her (while she and the owner were just chatting about some non-work related thing). Then after we ordered she charged our credit card. Is this a cafeteria? I did order a beer. Is it unheard of to want to order another Beer. Dessert?? When I am expected to tip its is nice to have the full experience before deciding how much to tip. It is uncomfortable to tip up front. It is uncomfortable to have to pull our your card when we want to order more (we did order Dessert). I would have ordered a second beer but I was annoyed. So bad business. I get it that table service can be expensive as you need more help. Maybe trust people not to dine and dash. Maybe offer some sort of table service if there are only two tables currently sitting and you have time to joke around with the owner. Once again I am rooting for the Ruddick / Wood. I hope it becomes my goto spot. I would not have taken the time to write this review if I thought it was a lost hope. They got to find a way to standout because right now they are trying to be like every other restaurant in Newberg but not living up to the same level of experience.

Love the aesthetics of this place. Has a very vintage style that does not come across dirty or an excuse not to clean. It has an old timer feel to the bar and patio, which gives the menu a chance to extenuate the atmosphere. The food choices are a good variety. From the staple of a hamburger (which was very well cooked and very tasty) to Picatta bread, youll get something that satisfies. The presentation of the food is excellent as well. Its carefully and thoughtfully cooked. The prices are expensive compared to restaurants like it in other cities. Its even more obvious when taking into consideration that Newberg is such a small town that really only has a college and a bunch of wineries (refined as they may be). The prices seem like they are there because the majority of the customers are not locals, but tourists on wine tours. Not necessarily a bad business move, but just a bit too obvious for me. The final experience is satisfactory though. I didnt leave only thinking about the tab price. I enjoyed our visit. Good staff and good people around.

The waitress was a sweetie, very efficient and personable. I would actually give this three and a half stars. The ten buck burger was just not as smashing as I had hoped. This could have to do with the fact that my son served incredible burgers just a week prior. He is a sensational, gourmet cook. I thought the bun was lackluster and the flavor just wasnt as great as I had hoped. I didnt care for the sauce. The burger was small. The lemonade was just okay. As far as the ambience, on a grey day, it is dark inside. I would feature some colorful, interesting art. Perhaps have featured artists display and sell from the walls? Or...change up the interior. I plan to visit again and order something entirely different. I have a feeling I will be happier. This is not a burger joint and I noticed some other good -looking plates. Also, the sweet potato fries looked great. Its just that I usually cant eat more than a burger, so I didnt order any this time. I still remain hopeful.

We visited Ruddick/Wood on 4/6/16. After traveling for many hours we thought based on the reviews we would give this place a shot. We arrived at 7:45pm and the place was empty. The hostess was also doubling as a server so no problem. With the dining room empty, we though that sitting at the chefs counter would be fun and interesting. Interesting it was. There was no conversation from the staff and the just straight out ignored us. Ok maybe the food will make up for the this. For the price it was ok at best. We ordered a grilled flat bread pizza to start and the boneless half chicken. The grilled flat bread was good. The half chicken was cooked right but the sauce was very bitter and the sweet potatoes over charred. For dessert we had the chocolate hazelnut cake. It was good. For the price and lack of service Id say skip this place. There is a lot of room for improvement.

02/19/17: 4.5 out of 5 - Ruddick/Wood was a first stop for food before my friends and I headed out for wine tasting. Firstly, the staff were very friendly and attentive. Great with explaining what is what and making suggestions. Secondly, the food was amazing! Every dish had a uniqueness about it. Portion size can be shared unless you are a power eater. And, lastly, the restaurant itself had a rustic modern look. Its clean and spacious. To my surprise, there is a bar in the back side where you will come across going to the bathroom. Overall, it was a great eating experience with friends. Definitely suggest, when in the area, trying out Ruddick/Wood once and decide for yourself. Enjoy!

Disappointing experience. Reviews looked promising, Id have to say it was a fail. Food took forever to get to the table, delivered WITH the appetizers we had hoped would ease the wait, food was cold and lacked flavor. Too bad to, we could have used another nice place to eat, but this is not it. For the $70 I spent there I could have been delighted with a tasty, delicious meal at THE great restaurant in town that consistently hits the mark on value and amazing food. Id recommend RW try harder, but I wont be back to check on them. Save your money, dine elsewhere........leave it to the local hipster drinkers that inhabit the bar.......and leave the bogus rave reviews for them....

We ate in the pub. The food was alright. The rockfish sandwich was severely overcooked and the "dressing" on the sandwich drowned any other flavor. I ordered a house burger ($14) that was only about 1/2 the size of the bun and the truffle fries I ordered were regular fries instead. Although our server was nice, he was not very aware of the needs of his customers. Food was served without silverware or napkins, beer was very slowly in arriving at the table, and water glasses and bottles on the table were frequently empty. Not in a hurry to go back and spend $65 on a mediocre pub dinner.
