My review gives them two stars simply because I have had their root beer and a Tommy Dog before this experience and thoroughly enjoyed them. Unfortunately when I returned another time with my wife at 7:20pm (advertised as open until 8pm), we were turned away stating that the kitchen had already been cleaned up so they could not offer us any hot food. I understand and respect they have loyal customers who will always go there and rate them 5 stars no matter what, but I could not believe it when we were told there was no way to get food when the place was still open for 40 more minutes. I dont know if its the fact that high school kids work there and they wanted to leave early or what, but we were quite turned off by the experience and Im sad to say that I work less than 5 mins walking distance from here and probably will never dine there again and have told my coworkers about this experience as well. Wish we had a better experience, but despite the good root beer and hot dog, it left us with a sour taste in our mouths.

1:45 on a random Friday and theyre packed. The float was pretty good, but Im not feeling the buzz, with this being my 3rd trip. 1) Cash-only is pretty stupid in 2017, and yes - I used to run a restaurant so I know what the margins are. Their most-known item is the highest-margin category at a restaurant. 2) How about a takeout window where you can order without being in a constant stream of people without milling around. Its more like trying to order at a college bar on Thirsty Thursdays. Service was friendly and fast. It was a little weird at the payment window when they slide the food through a slot and unless youre under 5 ft tall, you cant see their face. Its like my underage prison guard just slid an unexpectedly-extra piece of cake through my cell door. Lots of eating options in the area - maybe if youre feeling very nostalgic, give this a shot.

The Rootbeer Stand looks like an old drive-in restaurant when you first see it, but you must go inside to order. If you come during their prime-time, you may have to shove your way through the crowd. After you finally get your order in, the food is ready in about 5 minutes and its time to dig in. My favorite item on the menu is the Timmydog, a footlong that comes with Chili, Onions, Hot Sauce, Cole Slaw, Mustard, Ketchup, Relish, Sauerkraut and Chedder Cheese. It tastes ridiculously good despite been very messy. The root beer also tastes homemade and is very good.

Disgusting.... walked in for lunch expecting g something good from what I see on the reviews. All I could see was filth. Carpet that looks like it survived a flood. Cramped. Cash only. (they do have an ATM.) But paying an extra $2.50 ATM fee and deal with cash for a McDonalds quality burger... no thanks. Oh and the bathroom is worse than any truck stop/public restroom I have ever seen. And I make a living on the road... dont waste time here. Go to a A&W

Definitely a throw-back kind of place. They have decent burgers and dogs in the summer. Its usually very busy with long wait times. Their root beer is flat, very sweet, and served in a warm glass. Their burgers and dogs are pretty good. This is a great place to take kids, especially with the playground out back. Just beware the traffic jam between 12:30pm and 2:00pm the train in the area causes.

Good, cheap and simple food. They make the root beer and orange drink themselves! This is an old style ice cream stand/drive up. Dont expect the Ritz. Its a small place to eat inside but they do have picnic tables and play area outside for nice days. It is often standing room only at lunch. Its been serving the same simple, inexpensive food for 60 years. You either get it or you dont.

My favorite summer spot and a must-see if you live in or are visiting Cincinnati. The root beer is delicious and the menu is affordable. It is cash-only, but they have an ATM if you need it. Outdoor seating is great when its nice out and they have a playground for kids. My favorite thing to get is a root beer in a classic mug, popcorn and the chili cheese coney. It never gets old.

I bring ALL my friends here. This place redefines what root beer should be. Bar none the best root beer ive had my entire life. the food is pretty good for what it is... (dogs and hamburgers) would have given it 5 stars if the hot dogs were thicker & juicier. Either way its a great place to take transplants and vistors to cinci (im a transplant myself)

We really enjoyed our rootbeer floats- I was pleasantly surprised to find outdoor seating under some shady trees and a little playground outside for the kids to play on. The food was quick and I found the staff to be very cheerful. My hamburger wasnt the best burger of my life (it was still ok though). I did think the chili dog was very good.

Fun place, the food us fine, nothing amazing, though the super-loaded Timmy Dog is quite something. The real draw is the novelty, the history, and the root beer. That last bit really is worth checking the place out for alone if you like root beer at all. Its cash only, which is kind of annoying, but not a huge deal.

After a long day at school or work, theres no better place to relax than the The Root Beer Stand! Theirs is one of the last TRUE root beers, as it is made right in their kitchen! Plus, the chili dogs and popcorn are second to none. They even have games you can play while waiting for your food! How great is that?

What a trip. One of the only culinary institutions I travel outside the West Side for. Theres usually a few classic cars to complete the look. The kids love that a train goes by almost every time. Nice playground and crazy that they are so crowded every weekend, but service, parking, and the food never suffers.

The root beer was flat and watery. The chili tasted mostly of tomatoes and we felt sick afterwards. We ate outside so they gave us a jug and Styrofoam cups so it might be different. Overall the place wasnt bad but also wasnt good. I will say the outside area was nice and clean and even has a small playset.

Been around for 60 years. Simplicity is the key. Nice folks selling foot long hot dogs, burgers, and root beer floats. Prices are low in this nostalgic throwback, just be sure to bring cash (no debit cards or Apple pay here). They have limited seating inside, but plenty of picnic tables outside.

We had to eat outside, but at least there was a breeze plus it was after 7! Very busy!! We took 2 Grandkids, who love this place!!! 4 foot longs were ordered! The root beer is outstanding!!!! You just dont get a glass mug when eating outside. Theres something special about the glass mug!

LOVED the Root Beer Stand! We came for the first time recently, and everything was really, really good. The ATM machine was down unfortunately, so we had to go somewhere else to get money to pay. A quick and dirty credit card acceptance platform would turn this into an easy 5 star review.
