I happened to be driving around the shopping center next to Great Northern Mall. For some reason I had thought there was an Old Navy somewhere along the line of stores there. Turns out I was incorrect, but I happened to pass by Tadka. I figured, since Im here and I havent had dinner yet, why not get some chicken tikka masala. I had only been here once, when I first moved to Cleveland 3 years ago. I dont recall how my experience was that time, only that I didnt leave upset. I sure as hell remember how it was this time... I walked into the store and stood by the "Please wait to be seated" sign. There were a total of 3 other parties, all sitting at the booths along the right side. All the waitress happened to be huddled together by the POS system chatting. The notice me, and the very nice African American waitress walked up to me and asked me if I was dining in or taking it to-go. I told her I was dining in, party of 1. She asked me if I would like a table or the last empty booth, which one just to the right of me by the door. I told her Id take the booth. (the restaurant was practically empty, I hate sitting at tables compared to booths, and I figured this would be easiest for everyone since all the customers were sitting in this line of tables). She processed to clear of all the extra sets of plates, cups, and utensils. I sat down, while she fetched some water and the menu and told shed give me a few minutes to look it over. Since I came in with a plan, it didnt take me long to scan the menu and decide what I wanted: 1 chicken tikka masala entree and a side of naan. A couple minutes later, the shorter white, plump waitress came up and asked me if I was ready to order. I gave her my order and she said she would put it right in. The order was cooked much faster than I expected, and within 10 minutes, the 3rd waitress came over with my food, a taller white girl, with strong, masculine cheekbones. She placed me order on the table and left. -At this point, everything had been going swell, I had no reasons to complain and i started digging in. I had started eating my food and 2 bites in, I decided it would be nice to have a knife. It just so happens the 2 latter waitresses: the plump one and the tall one were standing by my booth. The plump one was helping a customer who had just walked in and the tall one was loitering close behind her. I looked at her and when she made I eye contact, I asked "Excuse me, may I have a knife please?" <---This is where everything started going to s**t. I had appeared to have struck a nerve with her, sense she looked at me blankly for a good 20 second before say "yeah..." She goes to the POS table, grabs a knife and very unenthusiastically hands it to me. I dont expect someone who has to work the dinner shift on a Friday to be the happiest person in the world, but she couldnt wait to walk away, and just kind of hastily handed it to me. Now, If youve read this far, youd probably agree that nothing thats happened really warrants a complaint or taking the time to write a critical review. It got worse though. Through my entire dinner, she visited all the other booths 2-3 times as she ignored to even come near mine. At some point I ran out of water so I placed the cup on the end of the table so that the next passing waitress might fill it up and I was being super patient about it. She was the only on the area because by this time a bunch of other tables had filled up and the other waitresses were busy there. She looked my direction and specifically at my empty cup several times while she poured more water and refused to come my direction and made her best attempt not to make eye contact. I finally got her attention and asked for some water, and this time she didnt even say a word, she just silently got the pitcher, filled up the cup so fast it almost spilled and left. By the time I was done eating, I had given up on getting any attention to ask for the check, so I just sat there quietly till big girl realized i was done eating and asked if I needed anything else.

Very bad experience. I visited after nearly 2 years (i stopped going because the food sucked). I thought I will give it another try. My experience was no different. We ordered Veg Cutlets for starters - undercooked and I got a STAPLER PIN in my cutlet. The server casually said "sorry" and offered to exchange it with another starter. He did, but served without the chutney!!! The server took my order for main course; five minutes later he came back to confirm it. He did not write it down. When the food came, I got the wrong dish. When I pointed it out, he simply said that I will change it. No apology. When the correct dish arrived, it was more like a soup than a sabzi. The malai methi matar curry was as thin as tomato soup. A manager looking guy apologized couple times and said "the chef was upset that he got a stapler pin in your food. so he messed up the sabzi". ARE YOU FING KIDDNG ME!!! The manager brought a complimentary drink for us - SODA. of all things in the restaurant he brought the cheapest item as a complimentary. My wife asked him to bring juice as she does not drink any caffeine. The guy looked surprise and did not say anything - just stood there. She repeated that No Caffeine. He hesitantly said ok. Instead of orange juice or other fruit juice, she got jello + water + sugar blended as a drink. No juice even though it is on the menu. After all this - the server brings out the bill and says "i have not charged you for the sabzi and naan". I just could not belive he said that. Why would you charge me for something I never received nor ate??????? Tadka is one of the more expensive indian restaurants in Cleveland area. But service wise and food wise it is the worst. Other smaller restaurants who charge much less provide excellent food with friendly service. I would never go there again even though it is 5 miles from my house - nor would I recommend it to anyone. I am better off driving half an hour if it means getting good food without staples in it.

Horrible customer service and lying waiters, but decent food. You want to read this if you are a first-timer. I and few friends went there last night and ordered Hydrabadi goat biryani and Hydrabadi chicken biryani and a couple other entrees to share. After waiting a LONG time, they bring us one Hydrabadi chicken biryani and one TADKA GOAT BIRYANI. We send it back because thats not what we ordered. A few minutes later another waiter comes out with the SAME biryani and when we say that we ordered HYDRABADI goat biryani, not TADKA, he makes a face as if were lying and takes it back. Few minutes pass by and the same waiter is back with the SAME biryani and when asked he says that its Hydrabadi (he himself said it was the Tadka biryani a few minutes ago when he brought it)!!! Lied straight to our faces!!! So I told him that weve had the Hydrabadi goat biryani there before and know what it is. After getting caught, he goes on explaining to us that its the same thing (which its definitely not). Then throughout the whole time we were there, no one came to ask how the food was or if we needed anything else. We had to call them ourselves for our water to be refilled. Weve been there 4 times so far. Every time they would take our order of Hydrabadi biryani, come back a few minutes later and tell us that they dont have it. Yesterday was the first time they lied to us. And finally now we know that they actually dont have anything called Hydrabadi goat biryani, but still arent updating the menu or letting people know when they order!!! All the other food we tried there was extremely good, which is why we go back there. Im giving a 1 star strictly for terrible customer service (every time we go there, no one comes and asks how many people will be dining or lets us know how long we have to wait to be seated). Were not ever ordering the Hydrabadi biryani of any kind there - thats for sure!
