First off, I gave 1 star because it wouldnt let me give zero stars. I cant believe this place is even in business. The food is so bad, its hard to swallow. You have to pay for chips and salsa. Ive never been to a Mexican place where they charged you for chips. The salsa was nothing but tomato sauce with a few random seeds thrown in and maybe some chili powder. No real taste. The ground beef tasted as though it came from a can, and they added only a couple of raw onions to try to make you think it was homemade. The refried beans were just disturbing, they were crusty and straight from the can as well. At least heat them up or something. The rice was the only thing with some slight flavor, and it wasnt a good flavor. EVERYTHING they serve came from a can. I have never written a review before, but this time I had to, Id hate for others to waste their money on a place like this. ****ALSO! Please notice the only good review listed here is from the owner, check the email listed above for the restaurant, and the email from the "Best Mexican Food Ever...By Far" Same guy!!! Sounds a little unethical to me.

I LOVE this place! Its by far the best mexican restaurant I have been to. Service is good, but the food is outstanding. I would reccommend their signature dish "Sopapilla" or a "Smothered Burrito". The comments below dont justify anything! First off, all the things they said are NOT facts. The beef is not from a can as it is ground beef, canned beef is shredded. Their chicken is GREAT! Seasoned just right. The salsa is great because its not like your nomal salsa, at the restaurant the salsa is good mixed with ranch. Havent tried that? Oh you should :) I dont mind being charged for chips when I can enjoy such tasteful food! Plus I think you get free chips with the combo meals :) I would try it for yourself and taste the wonderful family recipes that they have to offer! Thank you Lapaloma for being in business for so many years and have kept the quality of your food the same! I look forward to eating there again soon.

I am sorry, but sing2worship1 is being way too kind to the restaurant. When I ate there, the beef was not any type of "ground beef". I own a beef farm and I know what "ground beef" is. Normal salsa? I know it is not like normal salsa, it is canned veggie juice with some seeds thrown in. Also, I am in a Mexican restaurant, why would I ever try ranch dressing on anything? It originated in ALASKA not Mexico. I got a combo meal and was still charged for the chips. If these are family recipes, I am happy that I am not part of that family. I make better Mexican than what this restaurant puts out and I am Scandinavian!

This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Mount Vernon, Ohio. I have never been charged for chips and salsa like some have said in their reviews. They do not used canned beef and it is not tomato sauce either...It makes me wonder if those people even know the difference between salsa and tomato sauce. I like the salsa with the ranch dressing...if you havent tried it you should. Their signature dish the Sopaipilla is absolutely amazing...I get the beef and cheese with green chili because its the best......I love their food and it is at reasonable prices. I LOVE IT!!!!

This was quite a while back, so not all the details are totally clear. Anyway, La Paloma is kind of a hole in the wall restaurant on the corner of Main Street and Gambier Street. The service was only so-so, considering that my friend and I decided to lunch there since I hadnt seen her in a long while. I really wasnt impressed by either the food, all of which was bland, or the service, even though our server was nice enough when she bothered to look in on us. The pricing is fair. Not terribly expensive, but about right for a small place with little in the way of staff.

garsh. Im not sure whats going with the other reviews--seems like folks on both sides have some kind of agenda. Im a local & have dined there several times. The service is always great. The food is neither as good or as bad as others have written. It is not straight from the can and the salsa is not V8 with seeds thrown in; nor is it the best Mexican food on the planet. It is reasonably good food, reasonably well prepared at a reasonable price. I will definitely be going back sooner or later. Give it a try; I suspect you wont be disappointed.

Zero stars. Would have been better off going to walmart getting refried beans from a can, beef from a can, and some v8 juice instead of salsa. I am positive that is all they do. Waste of money, waste of time. No flavor at all. I completely agree with the "absolutely horrible" review. Im only giving 1 star becuse its required!

I grew up in Mt. Vernon and I ate at this place all the time. I love their sopapillas and nachos! I have since moved away but every time I return for a visit this is the first place I stop. All the hatefull reviews on here obviously never actually ate at La Paloma.

La Paloma is a different kind of Mexican food. Usually not as spicy as most other places unless you request. I like spicy foods, but I can see how many people would appreciate this. I really enjoy the place, myself, and went all the time when I was growing up.

La Paloma is our go-to Mexican place in Mt. Vernon! Wonderful staff and service. Excellent food! You cant go wrong with the all-can-eat tacos either! Their homemade salsa goes quickly at our table and nothing completes a meal like a Donkey Ear!

This was a very good place to eat a few years ago. Not now. Prices are much too high. They even charge for the chips they serve before the meal. They have ruined what was once a very good place.

Best salsas in the tri county area! Smothered burritos are so hot it makes me cry.............which is the way Mexican should be. Service is faster than some drive thrus I have been too.

Seasoning is the spice of life, when I think Mexican I think flavor, my food had none. Missed the mark and I wont be coming back.
