This is a charming little authentic home-style Japanese restaurant run by an older couple who used to run Akashi in NE Dayton. Its a go-to place now for the local Japanese demographic. Considering this is SE Ohio, the food is 4 stars; the charm makes the place a 5. If you want showy over-flavored foods (i.e. if you think P.F. Chang is good), you should probably go to one of the more Americanized "Japanese" restaurants in the area. However, if you have an appreciation of simpler, modestly flavored homely foods, youll be happy here. Im a regular and Ive never had a problem /w service. Everyone who works here are personable and attentive. A few visits, and theyll remember who you are. Sushi is of good quality. Menu is of surprisingly good variety, especially the appetizers. Ramen is actually worth eating here as well. Theyve got a Sunday ramen special going on now, which is nice. Update 11/20/15: They changed their kitchen chef a few months ago, and the food has improved some more -especially meat dishes.

I felt compelled to write this because my experience was so different than many of the other reviews that I read here. The sushi we ordered (rainbow roll, shrimp tempura roll, yellow tail roll) did not taste as good as any of the other sushi restaurants Ive been to in the Dayton area (Sush Bar Kai, Sushi Hana, Akashi, etc.) The fish did not seem to be as fresh or flavorful. The ginger was a color I was not quite accustomed to and had a more pickled taste to it. The restaurant was clean and the wait staff was nice. We sat at the sushi bar which was completely quiet at the time. Only a handful of customers in the place when we went. The extreme quietness of the sushi bar and the mediocre sushi itself made for an odd combination. The staff was very friendly so I hope the food can improve in time. (maybe add soft background music at the sushi bar to breakup the silence)

The owner was very sweet to my husband and me. We learned she is from Okinawa, and even serves Okinawa Soba (extremely rare for any Japanese restaurant). The place is decorated with the traditional Okinawa garb that can be seen during festivals in Japan. The food was delicious, and very authentic. We ordered some tuna and salmon nishiki, which was (as is the norm) expensive, but delicious according to my Japanese husband. We also ordered the Ramen Gyoza Fried Rice Set, which was as authentic tasting as I could recall. We were later graced with a delicious orange cake by the owner. We will be sure to return and try the Okinawa soba.

I live in Toledo but travel to Miamisburg frequently for work. After trying other Sushi restaurants in the area I was unimpressed. Luckily I spotted this place as I was driving by and decided to stop in and give Miamisburg another chance. Best Decision Ever! I ordered a dragon roll and a yellowtail roll the first time I ate here. The fish was out of this world. The second time I ordered the lunch ramen with gyoza. Delicious! Im determined to try everything on the menu at least once. This sushi restaurant is better than anything you can find in Toledo. Eat here! You wont regret it.

Ill preface my review (in light of all the 5-Star reviews)...I probably need to come here again and try some other menu options. I had a couple pieces of tuna and some other rolls and simply wasnt impressed. I suppose its possible that the sushi is phenomenal and I have no idea what good sushi is, but Ive had a lot of sushi all over the country. Dont get me wrong, it wasnt bad sushi, just average and forgettable. Id much rather drive five minutes away to Kabuki. On a positive note, the service was great.

Mmmmmm, good stuff here. Light and fresh. Mid-week lunch. Place was busy. Now dont take this the wrong way, but there were quite a few Asians eating here, which we always view as a positive when eating ethnic food. Its a sign of the quality and authenticity of what is being served. Had Yakisoba and Katsudon as well as a couple of sushi rolls. All were excellent. Service was good even though the lone server was stretched to her limit. Will. Be.. Backkkkk.

Id say its the best sushi restaurant the Dayton area has to offer, and their kitchen dishes are nothing to sneeze at, either. The Katsu Curry is one of the best things Ive ever eaten in my life, for a very average price for a one person dish (Around $10+), except one thing--you get enough food to feed 2-3 people! The people there are charming, the atmosphere is great... I dont know what else to say, but you have to try them out for yourself! :D

I had some of the word service here. I believe out server forgot to put our order in as there was a couple that came in after we placed our order, ate and left before we got ours. Our server offered us salad while we waited because if the wait but then did not being that. I spoke to the manager about the service and they did nothing to make it right. The only reason I do not give it 1 star is the food was actually very good.

I had a beautiful sashimi platter for lunch. Everything was artfully arranged and fresh. Lunch was just under $10, a low price for this quality. Restaurant was in a small strip mall between the Dayton Mall and Comfort Suites. Will be going back soon for dinner. BTW, this is the ONLY Japanese restaurant I know of in Dayton that is actually owned and operated by a Japanese person. She used to own Akashis on Harshman.

They have a huge selection of different kinds of sushi rolls plus a full menu of other items. Their staff is very attentive and kind. I came here the first time based off a friends recommendation, and I will go back at every opportunity. I cant believe Ive lived in Dayton for 6 years and missed out on this place! Its in a weird location to get to, but dont let that stop you.

Skip the chain restaurants. Stopped in after reading the other reviews while travelling through Dayton. Very good, fresh Sushi. Delightful staff is chatty enough to make the experience pleasant without being invasive. Will 100% be back if traveling through the area again! You wont be disappointed.

Very good service. Great sushi made the old fashioned traditional way. Way better than at Kroger or Dorothy lane market. And Cushion? Steak and blue cheese sushi? I promise the kid rolling your sushi with a machine is just a kid that was making a subway sandwich last week.

Wow! Visiting out of town and this place was right next to my hotel. Excellent service starting with a hot towel. Everything I order was presented very well and amazing flavor. I had the Ariake Roll and the Avocado Roll. Highly recommend
