The owner is a bi-polar, snobby bit#* that plays with peoples lives just because she can. I was hired on by her son. I was put on the schedule, (for my first week keep in mind)40+hrs. She was gone somewhere I worked i think 4 days before I met her. Everything was great the son was very pleased with my work I just slipped into the void like I had been there the whole time. When I met with her she was great, the next schedule was posted same 40+ hrs, so I ask her and her son if things were good they said great. So I quit my other full time job as soon as I did she started knit- picking everything. Now she claims to be a Christian believing GOD fearing person. Shes not, because any good hearted Christian would not fire a person they hired and let them quit there job being a Mother of a 18 month old and husband just had rotator cuff surgery that week. You just dont do that to anyone. I couldnt do that to someone I disliked let alone.... anyways you get my point. Im still working on my forgiveness Lord help me forgive those whom know better and preach your name the turn around and play GOD yourself. You dont have to be a Christian to know the Lord does not like that.

Weve lived here three years, and this is our favorite place in town to eat. Better than the chains by far. Food is good and the prices are great. Clean and bright, pleasant. Helpful and conscientious management and staff. This is where we usually take our out-of-town visitors for lunch. Everyone is always impressed with this little home-cooking restaurant and usually want to go there again when they return. My favorite is the salmon cakes, and I always get a side of pickled beets. Others have said the burgers are great. Always a good selection of desserts, specials, and sides. We just really, really like it.

The all you can eat fish fry on Friday and Saturday nights is to die for. My wife and I love it. Generous portions of lightly battered fish deep fried with two sides for a very low price. As soon as you are done with your fish, the nice waitress comes over asking if you want your next round of fish. They keep it coming until you are stuffed. Great food, low prices and friendly staff - I cant ask for more. ~ Steve L. Carroll, OH resident.

We ordered the specials (Reuben sandwich and fish fry) with yummy sides. The fish and fries were not greasy. The pies are homemade. The meringue on the lemon was the best I have ever tasted. The peanut butter had a Graham cracker crust and the filling was creamy with a good peanut butter flavor. It is too bad we dont live closer because there was a lot to choose from on their menu and specials.

Saving grace was the sweet tea. Mash potatoes were old and reminded me of silly putty. The salad had brown lettuce, one slice of cucumber, and one little mushy wedge of tomatoe. The baked steak was pretty tasty but not worth the price. If the owner has to seriously ask if everything was ok 3-4 times and not be aware, then well, the food isnt the only problem. Good food isnt hard.

In town over the weekend and ate here twice. Favorite meal was breakfast. The buckwheat pancakes were the best my wife has eaten in a very long time. I had the country breakfast which is similar to Bob Evans scramble. Roots was far and away better than Bob Evans. I wish I had the room for 2. Hope to be able to go back to that area someday and Roots will be in the plans.

You dont need the pie, but you have to get the pie. Trust me. The baked steak is pretty great. This restaurant has been around as long as Ive been alive and Ive sketched up many an idea over pie and coffee while sitting in one of their booths. They have daily specials and cucumber salad that is the closest to my grandmothers that I can find.

After our tent collapsed in a thunderstorm the night before, we decided we needed a new tent and a nice hot breakfast. The staff and other patrons couldnt have been more welcoming, and the food was exactly what we needed! You can tell its a local favorite for a reason. Definitely worth the drive from Hocking Hills!

Never have been friendly. Workers have zero respect for the parking around the place on the streets because their bosses refuse to allow them to park in the parking lot. Have had the food which was awesome, just a shame I wont spend my money there cause it may be named roots but is not African American friendly.

This place was great. Went we for Sunday breakfast and we didnt have to wait for a table. The people who work there really make you feel at home. They are right when they say home style cooking. We will be back on our next trip to Lancaster.
