Just came from the proper pig not even an hour ago.the food was horrible I couldnt finish it it was garbage for the price they are charging you guys are unbelievable. Nothing about this so called barbecue represent the South in no kind of way the coleslaw was basically cabbage cut up and very dry the meat it self was cold didnt have any favors what so ever. The bake beans had lots of meat but no taste at all. The sauce was not good the money spent here tonight was a total waste. These guys need to shut their doors and stop their false representation of the south we dont cook like this. Yall need to cut this cramp out and quit serving garbage to try and make money go back to the table and start over and firer the cooks quick wow! I dont no where these people came from on this panel they must have some type of investment with the owners of this restaurant to lye about their reviews or they must like eating garbage Im sorry but this is terrible and the food is even worst like I said firer the cooks and learn how to burn period point dot and stop making money off of serving crap!

I had high hopes for the Proper Pig. I have been to BBQ joints across the country, and unfortunately, this was the worst experience Ive had. Between my order and sampling from the table, I tasted their brisket, pork, ribs, hot link sausage, and turkey. I have never had such flavorless meat at any other establishment. No meats had a smoke ring present. No hint of smoke flavor in any of the meats at all. It tasted as if it was prepared without any wood, in an electric smoker. I tried the baked beans and Cleveland potato salad with stadium mustard, and the sides were equally underwhelming. The potato salad lacked flavor and the potatoes had an odd consistency, comparable to a premade mass produced salad you would purchase from a grocery store. The baked beans tasted like beans and ketchup and had no leftover meat in them at all (What?! thats a BBQ staple! What are you doing with the extra meat?!). However, the house made dill pickle chips were fabulous! The only highlight of the meal for me. If you are looking for authentic southern BBQ flavor, look elsewhere.

Living in Lakewood and not really having a good BBQ restaurant has been tough for many years. Then the Proper Pig opened to my delight,my first time It was amazing. The pulled pork, mouth watering, the brisket,so soft, and flavorful, the ribs delicious. My second time I thought I would try a sandwich called the proper slopper it was amazing. Now my third time going not so good! My wife had to work late, and I was thinking what to do for dinner,Proper Pig of course. So I got the proper slopper n my wife got the pulled pork sandwich, which was over $20. When we went to eat I almost broke a tooth on the pulled pork it was so dry and burnt, put on broken bun from nickels bread company sliced irregularly.I asked for extra sauce and they gave me a shot glass of sauce! When I pay I always get mine for take out and they have the register ask if you want to give a tip. They also have a tip jar out making you feel if you want a good meal for take out you have to tip them!

Heres the deal... While there are many places in Cleveland that use the term "BBQ" in their name... Its just not! There are 2 places right now that can lay claim to legitimate bbq in the rock n roll Hall of Fame city... And The Proper Pig Smokehouse is one of them. The menu is succinct and shows off what they do best. The brisket is moist and well flavored (Texas Style), pulled pork is done at call not pulled beforehand, turkey is sublime, sausage is the real deal coming from Mikeska Brands in Texas (Cheddar and Jalapeño is my fave) and the ribs are good too...I would like them to be a bit more tender if I could change anything. 4 meat platter is &$22...you just cant beat it... Plus 3 sides included! I posted pics of our platter just so you can see what you get. The Proper Pig Smokehouse is worth the drive from anywhere. Do not be fooled by all the other bullshit out there.. Real bbq served here and the critics agree.

This place was alright to me. Nothing special. I was in town for the first time in Cleveland and was wanting to try out all sorts of foods. This was my last place I stopped before I left and certainly was the least favorite of all my stops. All of food is placed in a hot buffet table style, and they do not sell any normal sides such as BBQ baked beans or Mac n cheese that most places normally serve. The meat wasnt too terrible though. The main reason for the 3 star is that I wanted to try out the Signature Sandwich which is the Proper Slopper, only to be told by the employee that I shouldnt get it because I most likely wouldnt like it and then recommended I try something else. The only reason I go to small places like this is to try the unique and speciality dishes and I had to get something else, which like I said was decent quality but would have very much enjoyed to try their signature dish.

I just visited The Proper Pig yesterday with my boyfriend and his mother. The staff were so friendly and easy to chat with, the meals were fairly priced for smoked meat, and most importantly, everything was delicious! I had a smoked brisket sandwich, my boyfriend had the beastly proper slopper, and his mom had half a slab of ribs. We all had baked beans as a side, and they include pickles and onions if youd like! Some people complain that the place isnt very big or that there arent enough sauce varieties, but the sauces there were are excellent and I thought the restaurant had a charming feel to it. Each meat was perfectly cooked, the beans were hearty, the cookie I had was so yummy, and the glazed bacon my boyfriend had was superb. Would definitely recommend if youd like to fill up on a reasonable price. Living up to its name, the meat is truly made properly.

** Horrible customer service ** Rather disappointing visit today. They told my wife they were out of pulled pork, and then Ribs when she made her order. - Not 5 mins later, they had Ribs and Pulled Pork. As my wife ordered slightly later than I did, I did get an order of ribs. - But my wife didnt miss much, as the ribs arent all that good. My wife ended up getting their turkey, and she reported that it was rather tasteless. It would behoove them to let you know when you are at the counter that theyre out of X Y or Z or that it will be a slight wait, if they have some in the back. Another point worth mentioning is that their BBQ Sauce Bottles suck for trying to get something out of them. - If I were to ever visit again, Id YANK the Liquor Pourer out of the BBQ bottle.

Outstanding juicy brisket with kicking peppery bark. A little heat to the ribs with nice smoke ring and flavor plus it wasnt falling off the bone. They nailed the ribs. Turkey was succulent and the pulled pork was modest. Sausage links were an added bonus and I wanted more. Baked beans are where its at for the sides. Slaw and potato salad were modest and filling. I brought home 2lbs of brisket and it was still warm after a 3 hours drive. Bring a cooler and stock up. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They love to talk barbecue so take advantage of it because some places serve you and send you on your way. This is a must visit when in the Cleveland area!
