I heard there was a good BBQ place nearby so I drove up and decided to give Carolina BBQ a try. I walked in not knowing what to expect. The exterior is a bit run down and packed in an area beside a gas station and a row of old shops. The interior is a bit dated, but the kind with a good deal of charm for this type of eatery. To me, it was actually a good sign of good food to come. The service was excellent from the first moment. I was greeted as I entered and chose a booth to sit in. My server came quickly and referred to me as sir the entire time. She smiled and was very pleasant. (I also observed another server using the same great service to other customers.) She brought my drink, took my order, and brought the food out in just a few minutes. She made sure my drink stayed full and broought me a to go cup toward the end of the meal. I asked her what type of BBQ they serve and she said it was the tomato and vinegar based. I told her that was a pleasant surprise as I was moving from an area that only had eastern style. I grew up eating Lexington Style BBQ prior to that and was looking forward to trying the BBQ here. I ordered the chopped plate with BBQ slaw (of course!) and french fries. The portions were plentiful. The BBQ was indeed a close cousin to the Lexington style I grew up with, but not exact. It was just a tad bit on the dry side but the sauce helped. It had very good flavor and was not chewy or tough. I really enjoyed it. The BBQ slaw was very good. The fries were fine. The hush-puppies that came with the plate were very, very good. I really enjoyed those. The price was fair for the portions and service. Great food, great service, and a good location. I look forward to coming back with my family and letting them give it a try.

It is the same owner of this one and the one on Blackstock Rd. and he is a irresponsible jerk. One of his waitresses spilled a whole glass of water after she refilled it on my wifes purse. The purse was fine, but the stuff in it was somewhat wet. She did not discover until she got home that a lot of the water had gotten to the bottom of the purse with her ipod touch amongst other things. It was dead so she called up and they were closed and we not open on the following day Sunday. So she called first thing Monday morning and talked to the manager who said that it was the owners call even though the waitress told him and too responsibility. After two weeks of trying to get the issue resolved and the owner comparing my 31yr old wife to his younger children he refused to do anything. So Be Warned!

We heard it was the best BBQ in South Carolina. It was really good, but we dont know if its the best because we havent had any other BBQ in South Carolina. It wasnt as good as Teddy Bear BBQ in Duval, Washington, which is the BBQ we judge all BBQ against. Pulled pork was pulled a little too fine, so it had a dry texture. Ok flavor. Brisket could have used a little more smokey flavor. It was juicy and nice, pull apart, done. Ribs were the meatiest weve ever had and probably as good or better than Teddy Bears. The Carolina style mustard based sauce was great! The tomato based one was above average, but no wow factor. The vinegar based hot sauce helped it out. If were ever in Spartansburg again we will eat there, so yeah, it was really, really good . . . but great . . . ?

Bbq and brisket are fantastic. All three sauces are great too but really not needed. It seems like a small businesses with BIG fan base. I seen photos and plaques for award winning bbq. Im from A part of nc where bbq is plentiful and this place has 75% of those beat. Justin who waited on me was just great...the cooks however were giving him a hard time loud enough the people eating could hear them cursing. Justin handled it professionally and kept doing his job. Michale and Anne are the owners(via an award on the wall) and I am verrry pleased with the food and would recommend and revisit!

I pass Carolina BBQ a lot because I go to school at Upstate and it is located less than 5 minutes away. I was craving bbq so I decided to call & order something. Lucky for me it was a Wednesday so they had their rib special (half rack & 2 sides for $10). I ordered the ribs with double fried okra. They included hushpuppies which turned out to be the best part of the meal. The ribs I was given were burnt & hard. The okra was soggy as if they cooked it first & waited for the ribs to finish cooking. I dont know what all the hype is about this place the food is horrible!!

Southern Living voted this as the best BBQ in the Upstate. That doesnt really mean that much because this area isnt exactly a haven for BBQ, but Carolina helps to make up for that. They have excellent BBQ, ribs, and chicken. They offer the area favorite sauce, mustard, but also vinegar, red, and another local favorite, Cheerwine, but I recommend going light on the sauce to enjoy the outstanding meat. The veggies are traditional Southern with a decent variety. Pricing is great, service attentive, and portions are pretty good. You will not leave hungry.

The pork was pre-sauced, which is a big red flag for me. Surprisingly, it was also a little dry. I think it is because it was pulled so fine. The Mac and cheese was made in house, but was not as creamy as I would like. I did like the pepper in it though. I also like the little hint of heat on the back end of the pork after eating a few bites. Service was very friendly and it was only $10.34 for a BBQ plate with two sides and a drink. I probably wouldnt come back, though.

This is a tasty place! We stop by Carolina Barbecue frequently when we are heading to the mountains and get the 2-3 people special. The chopped barbecue makes a delicious sandwich and the hot barbecue sauce makes a great topping. We have always had a tasty experience with Carolina Barbecue. Be sure to pick up an order of hush puppies to go with your meal!

Ribs and coarse chopped pork were both moist and tender. Not quite as much smoke flavor as I like, but cooked perfectly. Brunswick stew was a good balance of tomato and sweetness. Unless you like really sweet stay away from the Cheerwine bbq sauce and stick to the regular or mustard based. Only 4 stars because you need to serve beer to get to 5.

My wife loves the smoked turkey breast here. The chicken is good too. I had beef brisket here once, its not a regular menu item, but would love to see it on there. Great hushpuppies and the fried squash is really good. My family is not from the Carolinas, so when we have friends and relatives come through we take them here for a good meal.
