I dont mind waiting two hours on a Sunday morning to eat. I dont mind paying $15 for breakfast. However I very much mind waiting two hours, only to finally get a seat and be told that roughly half of the already fairly limited menu is sold out. I am happy to support a small business, but I am absolutely not going to pay $13-$15 per person for my fourth-choice meal because everything else I preferred on the menu is already gone. For a business that is only open for six hours a day, and whose primary draw is brunch, you would think they would plan better for a busy Sunday morning in the spring. Being told all the food is sold out doesnt make me feel like I missed something special and it doesnt inspire me to come back, it just makes me irritated and hangry. We politely left and went to Lindeys instead. This was my third time at Skillet and my third bad service experience. I feel they are maybe resting a bit too much on their cult popularity. The host staff acts like getting a table there is a privilege. There is a coffee station outside to appease you while you wait, but it was left without cups for so long that we went to the Starbucks up the street and came back. Also there is a menu posted outside, so you would think if items were selling out the hostess would communicate that to people who were waiting. I overlooked the cranky hipster waitstaff the first two times I visited, but after todays experience I wont be going back.

We arrived at 7:45 AM on Sunday May 14th. They opened at 8:00AM that day. We put our name on the list for 5 adults and 2 children and arrived early so we would be the first ones seated and would be sure to get a table. When they opened the doors other people were seated first and they paid no attention to the sign up list outside. When we finally came in the door they said they couldnt seat us inside all at one table and can we sit outside (with a 1 year old and a 3 year old in 53 degree temperature). We said we didnt want an outside table as we also indicated on the sign in sheet. As I looked around the very small restaurant there was an empty booth for four with a table for two right next to it. I asked a different staffer why we couldnt pull that table over to continue the booth which was more than enough seating for us. They finally agreed that we could do that and they seated us there. I cannot believe being the first one to arrive at the restaurant that their only idea was to seat us outside on a 50 degree day. I spent $145 on brunch and didnt think the food was that exceptional although the prices were. The coffee was good and the waitress was attentive, but other than that I was not impressed.

Great service. You know, who really cooks better comfort food than a granny? Not most chefs. I really wanted to love this place. Coffee was above average. Grilled cinnamon bread too bready. Turkey sausage and gravy with cats head biscuits: hardly no protein, very limp, low rising, non-tart biscuits, watery gravy, egg on top very pale (versus orange teaming with nutrients), and way overcooked, flavorless (fyi chopped hard-boiled egg way better on biscuits and gravy,). . .Andouille sausage not bad. In sum: chefs dont make the best comfort foods. They try hard but grannys just always do it better. Its like someone who inately, naturally, intuitively knows how to give what ends up the best massage you ever had versus someone taught and it shows. Im sorry. If you disagree then you dam well dont know food. The end. I aint got no axe to grind. If I spot it, I got it. The end. (Again).

What is up with the kitchen? We have eaten here a few ttimes and always thought it was wonderful. This time though it was just awful. I ordered tomato soup which was supposed to have basil and a heavy hand if garlic in it. It came and was so spicy we couldnt eat it. We also ordered a breakfast burrito thing...no tomatoes, extra for sour cream ..there was one ingredient they were out of so we were supposed to get a corn relish. That was absent. My mate asked for lettuce instead of bread with her fish. The waitress wouldnt ask the kitchen. The waitress also never asked us how stuff tasted. We basically spent almost 50 bucks for a tortilla and a spicy can of beans...oh and no cheese on the tortilla thingy...I thought Id salve my pocket book and other wounds with a decent cup of coffee from the kiosk outside. Even that was empty. We wont be back.

I politely told our server we didnt understand why the shrimp & grits had the shells on the prawns, which when drenched in sauce became mushy and disgusting. All but ruining the highlight of a $19 dish. Ive had shrimp and grits at over a dozen places across the country and never seen such a thing. Ive had a bad meal before and that has never warranted a bad review but bad service is inexcusable. The server snapped back at me saying, "well, it says prawns in shell in the menu description". Then walking away. Then she had the audacity to suggest I tip more than the available options. Sure. The only thing I saw anyone order on the restaurant that finished their meal was the biscuits and gravy. Stick with that and hope you get a better server than I did.

Best brunch in Columbus by far. The only shame is the wait and rushed atmosphere. Doesnt matter when, youre gonna have to get on that list and wait at least an hour. When it DOES come, itll knock your socks off. I think that theyre really popular and definitely earning a ton of money. Maybe theyll open up a location with more space in the future because the fact that its constantly packed and people are hungry antsy and waiting, you feel like youre in a hurry and it takes away from the atmosphere and comfort. It also feels like a claustrophobes nightmare with how many shoulders youre bumping in to on the way to your seat. TL;DR, bring your patience and your wallet but youre going to have the best breakfast/brunch in the city.

Ate here about two months ago. My lady and I had to wait a few minutes to be seated; but the food was great! Had the Asparagus Omelet and an order of Scrambled Eggs with mushrooms, spinach and cheese! All in a skillet for the effect and additional Iron. :) Came back for lunch and grabbed some Brisket to set us straight! Good home cooking if you ask me. Not the best if youre on a diet but they keep the portions and quality high. I think this might be especially great for Iron deficient patrons. :-D The area is also very nice. Had a nice tour of the town with my girl afterwards. Well visit again soon!

One of my favorite brunch places in the columbus area. If youve got the budget for brunches, youve got to go here. Be aware that they can sell out of their more popular menu items, so come early if you want the entire menu at your fingertips. Their duck and biscuits dish never fails to satisfy. Also a huge fan of their cinnamon roll (pretty large portion, definitely something to be shared). All of their dishes taste fresh and you can tell they use quality ingredients. If youre going at a busy time (weekends) be sure to call ahead and put your name in the already forming list of customers!
