This place is apparently no longer called Pig Iron, but Iron Grill BBQ and Brew. And the quality has definitely gone out of the place. It used to be the best BBQ in Columbus, but recently its gone downhill and is even worse than Hoggys. First of all, the service was slow and disorganized. The servers were yelling to each other and it took us at least 10 minutes to even get a server to ask for our drink orders. We were literally at the point of "if we dont get a server here in the next minute, were outta here" when she finally showed. She was friendly but it was obvious that she was rushed to get things done for whatever reason. The drinks were a while longer in coming as well. And there was a lot of apologizing going on all over the place, not just at our table. The actual barbecue offerings on the menu, despite BBQ being in the name of the restaurant, were minimal. There was a ribs platter, a chicken platter, a pulled pork sandwich, a brisket sandwich, and a combination platter with two choices of ribs, chicken, turkey, pulled pork, or brisket. My wife, who used to rave about the brisket at Pig Iron, couldnt finish what she got. It tasted as if itd been brined instead of given a good rub and smoked. It was very salty and somewhat soggy. Her cornbread was not completely cooked. I had the combination platter with ribs and brisket. I had the same assessment of the brisket. My ribs were okay - nothing special, though, and with too much sauce on top. The green beans were actually pretty good - not as overcooked as you normally get at a barbecue place. She also had chili cheese fries, which were okay but the chili had hunks of brisket in it and they were cut well enough for chili. My son enjoyed his shrimp and chips and my daughter ate most of her mac n cheese, both of which are kind of hard to screw up, IMHO. My sons milk cup was styrofoam and had a large crack in the side. The sauces available for the meat were supposedly sweet and spicy options, but the spicy one was really more of a vinegar-based Carolina pulled pork type sauce. That would have been good to know before I put it on my brisket. Our table was supposedly for four people, but it was really about the proper size for two people - they really seem to have crowded a couple more tables in there. There were no kids menus physically available although they do have a kids menu. All in all, we will not be back. The food quality has gone very downhill since the last time we were there.

Where to begin? Appetizers, of course. You really cant go wrong with any of it, but the Carolina Pork Rolls, Pulled Pork Nachos, Onion Rings, and Loaded Chili Cheese Fries are particularly outstanding. While youre at it, do yourself a favor and order some corn bread. Good in its own right, it may come in handy later. Now what do you want to do for the main dish? The burgers are top notch, as is their brisket and their various sandwiches. But those ribs though! Gooooooood night. They range from very good to "Holy crap! I can effortlessly pull the bones out of this!" good. Now if the bones are sliding out of those ribs, you need to take that cornbread you ordered earlier, cut a few of those bad boys in half at the crown, and use a bit of your glorious, boneless slab of rib meat to make little ribwich sliders. Ohhhhhh baby is that good. You can also throw a little rib meat on a flatbread if you ordered one of those. Whats that you say? You havent eaten pizza ribs before? Well, you need to change that as soon as humanly possible. And, no its not rib pizza because lets get one thing straight: ribs take a backseat to no food. If ribs are involved they are the show, the other foodstuff is just along for the glorious ride. I digress. My point is, this menu is stacked with delicious, well-prepared food. It is affordable too. This isnt some BS, cafeteria style BBQ joint. That stuff is gross. Stop it people. This is legit, smoked BBQ that you can smell before you even walk in the door. Your taste buds will appreciate it.

I must make an edit to my original post. My last visit was not well at all. I saw on the front page of the menu a beautiful juicy beef brisket, and asked the waiter what it was. " He said it was sliced brisket and said I could order it by the pound" I said perfect, Ill take a half pound!! When my food came out they brought me out shredded brisket which looked like it was stew meat. It actually tasted like stew meat and thats when I was informed they were out of sliced brisket but this was what they had left. When my bill came they charged me $14.00 for a full pound. I asked the waiter about it and he said that is what you ordered, and you only by it by the pound. I told him i only ordered a half pound...? You can only by it by the whole pound.... he said to me thats what you ordered I was too polite to tell him that was not what I ordered at all, and He should have told me I had to buy the whole pound. He also did not tell me what I ordered was out and asked if I was OK with the shredded beef instead.. this place has gone down hill, the Beef Brisket at Giant Eagle Market District, or even City BBQ IS MUCH BETTER than the shredded beef (beef brisket) they served me tonight at Pig Iron. It will take a lot from management and this restaurant to win me back.

We have dined at this restaurant many times with large groups of 15 or more. We have never been disappointed with anything we have eaten there. The BBQ is outstanding, the meat is full of flavor and the ribs ARE the BEST in Columbus. The fried pickles and mushrooms are yummy!! If you have gone and had a bad experience I urge you to go again. We have never had a bad experience at all and thats with a large group of people when you expect that something is not going to go well for someone in the group. The staff have always been friendly and go out of their way to make sure we are not waiting long for anything. Everyone has a bad day even wait staff, so give them the benefit of the doubt and try it again. If I do ever order take out from anyplace I always check it first before leaving mainly so I get what I ordered. I am sure if your food is overcooked for you they will prepare another one pretty fast. I never base my dining experience if its not good to only one time. If the second goes bad, then perhaps. Our group of people will be back and plan to do so this month!!

My husband and I have been coming here for about 2 years now and is absolutely one of our favorite places. It used to be Pig Iron and had different owners ...I was not a fan of Pig Iron at all. When my husband and I stopped in after the new owners took over and renamed it Iron Grill..we were very impressed. They go all out on their food. The southwest chicken salad, ribs , burgers and BBQ are terrific. I love rib night on Tuesdays. They have the best ribs around . I have never had anything I havent liked. Their steaks are also great ! They have great specials and the owners and staff are super friendly. And the cheesecake....the BEST EVER ! It is a must try for everyone. We have never once had a bad experiance. Great atmosphere with great food and people. Would 100 percent recommend.
