On Thursday, April 16, around 11:30 PM, I was at this bar with a group of coworkers and my girlfriend. We had eaten a late dinner and were still sitting around a large table on what was slowly becoming the dance floor. As the bar got more and more crowded, loud, and dark, some guy reached in front of my girlfriends face and sprayed mace or pepper spray directly into her eyes. My friend on her right also got hit in the face. We hadnt talked with any other people the whole night besides our group of friends, and nobody knew what had happened until we all started coughing and looked at my girlfriend who was covering her face with her hands, sobbing and screaming. I called 911 and we rinsed her eyes out the best we could. One random guy helped out by grabbing some bags of ice. After she regained vision and the stinging subsided somewhat about an hour after just sitting in the ambulance on west 6th, I went up to the manager to ask if they had seen who did this and if the bouncers had caught someone running out the front door. We just knew it was a white dude in a black shirt. The manager told me they had not yet installed any security cameras, hadnt seen anyone suspicious, and he insinuated that we had provoked the incident by harassing the tables around us. He also kept complaining about how much business he was losing that night. I assure you, there was nothing of the sort happening between my table and anyone else. We all work downtown, and were simply taking advantage of Thursday food specials at a new place in town. Arguing with this manager was less important than making sure my girlfriend was alright, so we left. I went back two days later to speak with the manager, and met a different guy who I assume is a co-manager of the bar. This guy said he had also been present on Thursday night, and much more sympathetic. He offered a few rounds a drinks and was generally very apologetic. I would normally scratch this off to bad luck and one really pathetic manager, but when I recently heard that a fight broke out in this bar a few nights ago, spilled into the street outside, and resulted in one kid being killed, I have to blame the bar for a complete lack of responsibility in its own security. How do you not call the police when there a fight inside your own bar that continues to brew when the instigators are simply forced outside? It is as if the Barley House has absolutely no concern for the safety of its patrons. I recommend that you not only avoid the Barley House, but that you spread the word about the crimes committed at this bar in its first month of existence.

My initial enthusiasm for the Barley House is being sorely tested. Im now on the edge of not returning. I eat lunch there usually with a group, but today I went by myself and sat at the bar. Recently, when I went with a group, I asked the waitress to please bring me some mustard. I was quite hungry and in addition had only so much time, so after she didnt bring it, I started in on my burger. I happened to glance over at nearby table and spotted my waitress laughing and talking with a couple. Disgusted I shifted my attention elsewhere. When I was about 90 percent finished with my mustardless burger, the waitress finally brought it. Then, today, I sat at the bar. It was NOT busy, I was eating a late lunch (it was about 1:40 pm) The waitress/bartender took my order for chicken noodle soup and corned beef sandwich. The soup arrived timely enough. The corned beef, no. The waitress/bartender was too busy flirting and talking the booze business with two guys sitting near me. This time I took some action. I approached two guys with managerial type shirts. One of them, Johnny, the chef, heard me out. He apologized and the sandwich arrived. He told me not to pay for it. The flirty waitress/bartender never brought it. Nor did she even bring me a glass of water. Too busy flirting. I think the girlies there are too busy flirting and hitting on guys to do their jobs correctly. I liked Johnny the Chef. Not his fault. But I think the service is shoddy. Not sure Ill go back.

My review is probably a little biased, as I havent been to the Barley House at night. But for lunch I thought the place was great. The waitresses were very nice and the service was the quickest I have ever had for lunch in Cleveland. Seriously, we got there at 12:15 and were out by 12:45. I have been working Downtown for almost five years and that was the quickest service Ive ever experienced! The food was good and moderately priced and for a bar the selection was pretty eclectic. The macaroni and cheese with buffalo chicken was awesome, if artery clogging. The only thing I didnt like was that they seated us next to an annoying strobe light.

Concerned about an experience I had on 8/12/17. Was with some girlfriends, enjoying a night out. A very drunk young woman physically ran into my friend, who was visibly annoyed and asked the girl to please go around the table another way. The drunk girl and her friend then proceeded to tell a security guard, who immediately kicked out my friend without getting any sort of details. We were with multiple others (including people we did not know) who verified that my friend did not lash out or touch the girl and that there was no issue. The security guard ignored everyone and proceeded to kick my friend out. Will not be returning here.

First of all, The all you can eat is NOTTTT all you can eat. Once you get 3 small plates of crab legs you are CUT OFF. Thats false advertising in my opinion. And they really werent that good. Overcooked and cold. You can go just about anywhere for a pound of crab legs for $20. We were the only white family in the restaurant. It is not racist there at all. The service was good. Waitress and other girls working were very attractive. I have been there other times. Dont get caught up in the All You Can Eat SCAM. Can you tell I love crab legs?
