I normally dont take the time to write a good review for a business, but Meis is truly a gem in a sea of American-ized dining. I went for my first time today with a Japanese co-worker who highly recomended it. The service, atmosphere, and most importantly the food were all stellar. I have eaten Japanese food all over the country from NYC to San Fran and this establishment has them all beat. Everything was fresh and delicious. You must go for lunch and get the bento box which is loaded with artfully prepared delights for only around $10! It included soup, salad, roasted vegetables, grilled fish, sushi, vegetable and shrimp tempura, perfect rice, hot green tea,and a host of sauces and little "condiments". Most people spend that on a tray of greasy junk at the food court. They fly their fish in fresh twice a week and all the staff members are friendly and happily answer any questions you might have about menu items. Im just sad I didnt know about Meis sooner. I am going back again for dinner tomorrow tonight and brining friends. A+++!! Keep up the fabulous work!

My husband and I love this place. They have devoted a lot of time and expense into updates and the restaurant looks lovely. The prices are fair and still one of the cheapest places to have hot pot meals. As you can see in the pictures, try getting a booth by the window. You get a view of the lovely pond. It is serene and quiet, and pretty even frozen over. The staff are incredibly friendly and good-natured, and are happy to help you. I want to address the elephant in the room, and it is the snobbery about non-Japanese staff. I have traveled to Japan, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia and I can assure, staff at eateries around the world often vary by ethnicities. That people would be critical of a place for this reason is beyond ridiculous. The food here is well prepared and it is hard to find hot pot meals in the United States under $25 per person, unless you make it yourself. I genuinely love this place, as does my husband, and he is very hard to please. Reserve the middle booth by the window. It is the best spot in my opinion.

Fantastic selection of Japanese cuisine. The best I have been able to find near Cincinnati. Whether you are craving sushi, soba, ramen, duck, or just popping in to pick up bento you wont be disappointed. The fish has been fresh and delicious every time I have been here. Stop in with friends and get fired up with some sake or away from the bar on the other side of the restaurant, where it feels very relaxed and quiet, there are windows overlooking a quaint pond that is frequented by ducks and other wild birds. Great place!

Giving 2/3 in the food category only because it cant beat Jo An. But still one of the best Japanese restaurants in Cincinnati. A little bit pricey (so is Jo An), but come on you are having Japanese food, cheap Japanese food just aint gonna be any good. Waitresses and waiters are very friendly. One of the waitresses is very knowledgable about Japanese food and gives good recommendations. Always remember to get a good, cold Japanese beer :)

Very good Japanese food. The prices are what you would expect and the staff is friendly. The atmosphere is clean and authentic. My wife is Japanese and her family always loves eating at Mei when they visit. Good selection of food including sushi, and drinks. Several private tatami rooms are available.

Very satisfied. Tasty, fresh food. Had hibachi grill and sushi. Courteous staff and relaxing clean atmosphere. Some other review said that the food was bland. Well, Im from Louisiana where all food is well seasoned. So we simply asked for more seasoning. Lol I would definitely eat there again.

Some of the best Japanese food in the city. The restaurant may be run by Chinese, but the sushi chef studied in Japan for 5 years, and thats authentic enough for me! Theres a reason so many native Japanese choose this restaurant over others in Cincinnati. Best find since I got back from Japan!

Best Japanese restaurant in Cincinnati. Wide range of Japanese cuisine from sushi/sashimi to udon/ramen. Choose from traditional Japanese style seating on mats or Western style table seating. Quiet. Nice window views. Not usually crowded. Undiscovered gem. Lots of parking

Japanese restaurant operated by Japanese. Of course, its price cant compare with those operated by Chinese/Korean, but the Bento I had was as good as it can be. If you are looking for quantity and good value, try lunch at Kyojin.

This is authentic Japanese. They have booths and tables for traditional American eating style, but they also have tables at kneeling height for traditional Japanese eating style. The food is excellent. Reminds me of home.

The food was disappointing, I had the chicken teriyaki bento. Being Japanese, I know what good food is, unfortunately the food here was hit and miss. It tasted like much of the food was frozen and microwaved.

I think I found the best Japanese place ever. They have fresh fish just lying there waiting to be ordered, they are so good at handing your food, no mess, no nothing, just amazing flavor and cleanliness.

Incredible Ramen. Anything you order here will be excellent but their ramen is especially good. Great looking dining area and the owner is a great guy.

Many Japanese restaurants in the area disappoint, but not Mei. The staff was attentive, and the Sukiyaki was perfect! Well be going back.

Clean, authentic atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good miso. The food was ok, the meat was over cooked, kind of bland. Great unfiltered cold sake.

Lamefest 2011. Expensive yet crappiest Japanese food I have ever had. Avocados were brown. Wrong dish served.
