On Tuesday, December 27th and still in the holiday spirit, we decided to revisit a local seafood restaurant, Shuckers of Wake Forest. If youre looking for good steamed oysters and great service, DONT GO! We decided on Shuckers because everyone in the three-couple group likes seafood and it was a central location to meet, arriving there early so wed beat the crowd. I ordered steamed oysters with a salad and that salad got there after the oysters. I did not know until they arrived that I had to shuck the oysters and asked for a glove and got a towel. I got no butter, nor sauce, nor crackers or any set ups as they are called. Every time I asked the server for something, she nodded and never did it or never came back. Not wanting to cause a scene in front of my friends, I quietly left the table and met with a manager who I informed that our server was more qualified for a car wash, pushing start, stop and wax. He assured me it would get better. It did not. I couldnt open hardly any of the oysters, a task Ive been doing for decades, and they were cold. I asked for them to be heated enough that they opened. Not. I sent them back by the manager again! The last time I asked, I never got the oysters back at all! I never made a scene during all this, and as we were about to leave, another manager came over to ask about my slight problems. I told her she could just read about it. There are no pictures with this post because they would be absolutely too humiliating to Shuckers. The moral of this story is that Shuckers is shucked out!

Fantastic lunch dining experience. We were greeted and seated immediately. Excellent setting and design of the restaurant, bar, and oyster bar. Very extensive menu selection. Primarily a seafood restaurant, there are items for non-seafood eaters also. We had: oysters Rockafeller, raw oysters on the half-shell, crab dip (the best weve ever tried), clam chowder (youll never have any better than this, even from New England), and Grouper bites. Hush puppies come to the table and they are amazing, a hint of sweetness hidden inside. The butter that comes with the hush puppies is soft, so it rolls onto the hush puppy easy. The in-house made cocktail sauce that came with the oysters has horseradish that will make your hair stand on end (and this is a good thing for me). Wait staff is very friendly and knowledgable about the menu, they advise well. We hear that this a very popular place on the weekends, so we suggest calling ahead of showing up early. Lots of Happy Hour food and drink specials as well, we cant wait to get back there for dinner!

Went for second time last night and OMG, out-flipping-standing, awesome food, easy to see why this place is always packed to the gills. (Get it, gills? I crack myself up! ) . Food: • Tilapia w/Crab & Brownfeller Topping - 5.0, Excellent!!! Cooked perfectly, bursting with flavor, the blend of spicier, blackened fish with the topping made our taste buds dance! . • Shrimp & Grits w/Filet Mignon - 4.0, Very Good! S&G had a very good flavor, am personally a fan of the roux-based sauces than cream but this was quite tasty. I recall on our first visit thinking that the cheesy grit cakes were a little ehh plain by themselves, but they are absolutely perfect with the S&G. The filet was cooked perfectly, very tender, nicely spiced. Dont know that Id go there just for the filet, but it was very worth having and an excellent value with the S&G. . Atmosphere is very good, service top notch, menu selection excellent. Shuckers has just moved into our reserved list of top faves in the Triangle. Like Arnold, "Well be back!"

Food and service is very hit-or-miss. I often get the pecan-encrusted trout which I find to be delicious, and the hush puppies are fantastic, but I ordered the fish-and-chips for lunch once and it was not good. Bland and soggy. The last time I went my parents came with me, my Dad got the Asian salad and said the one from Chic-Fil-A is better and has more taste, my mom got the mixed grill, and the veggies were hard and nearly raw. She asked that it be cooked a bit more, and it came out burnt to a crisp, with some veggies almost unrecognizable. We asked for the manager at that point who compd the meal, and brought a third one, it was a bit more edible but still not particularly great. However the coconut cheesecake dessert I had was amazing. So its a frustrating experience coming here, you just never know what you will get. When its good, it can be VERY good, but the consistency is just really not great.

Me and my family just returned from Shuckers Oyster Bar & Grill in Wakefield, NC, and must say that the experience was less than desirable. When we were ordering we specifically asked our waitress if they used peanut oil to cook any of there food in and the response was no as my wife has a pretty bad peanut allergy. So my wife placed an order of the Wasabi Crusted Tuna and I ordered from the pick three fried seafood dinner. Upon my wifes first couple of bites she immediately knew that the "Crust" of the tuna had to be made of a peanut based reduction. She then asked to see a menu to see if there was a notation of the "Crust" being made of peanuts and there was no such notation anywhere on the menu. So anyone with any type of allergy beware, and ask for every detail of the food you may be ordering.

My wife and I went in there this Sunday evening to get dinner and a drink. Sat at the bar and asked for a couple of drinks and food menus-- there was only one other couple at the bar, not busy at all. The bartender threw the menus at us. My wife and I looked at each other and cancelled our drink orders and left. If that was representative of the service we could expect there...we can take our business elsewhere and we did. We went to the Thai Cafe next door and had a much better dining experience. Throwing menus, food or anything at customers is really disrespectful...it says we dont have the time to present it to you like we value your business. This is my second bad experience here. I dont think I will return.

Visiting from Florida Keys...Went to a local store Harvest Moon and the owner Kelly recommended Shuckers for a place for our family to eat...at first I was like ugh..a bar? Then we arrived and ate out on their deck with our 3 kids. Server Lisa was wonderful! Loved the small plates menu items, clam and oyster apps, kids meals werent all fast food items...my younger children enjoyed grilled shrimp and fruit...the oldest had a small plate salmon. My hubby loved the buffalo chicken, and I had a small plate chicken Marsala that was as good as my homemade recipe! Great service, great food choices and prices! Too bad we arent local lol

Over priced and the food was awful, everything was cold or over spiced! Stuffed mushrooms were not even cooked, mushrooms were still raw, stuffing was ice cold. Same with stuffed fish, stuffing was ice cold and there was so much seasoning you could not taste the fish. The Big SOB, which is suppose to be a steam pot, was also cold, most of the shells were still closed and when we complained to the waitress she did not seem to know what to do, so she had US take them out of the pot and she took them back to the kitchen but all they did was open the shells. WOuld not recommend this place to anyone!
