When reading multiple reviews from many sites -- I believed I chose the perfect location for a Saturday evening dinner for myself and group of seven friends. Reservations were simple enough, they said they could accomodate with no issue ( requested sitting in the "Girl with Pearl Earring" room ) which had me hopeful for a smoothe experience. Unfortunately, "smoothe experience" could not be further from the truth. Our group arrived a half an hour early for our reservation, the sign in the enterance way asked to wait to be seated...although no one was attending the podium...and no one came ( we had to hunt down a wait staff after waiting some time) The bar area vastly empty except a small group of guys at the corner bar (This was at 7:30). The group decided to have cocktails prior to sitting at our reservation -- the pour looked noticeably short and when one of my guests mentioned to the bartending regarding the pour ( 5 drinks were the same, could be an honest mistake coming out of the shaker as such) the bartender, who we later learned was the manager, just told us "Thats the way it goes". No host asked us if we were ready to sit at our reservation time -- bartender / manager made no move ... so I hunt down our waiter to ask if we can be seated. Seating was accomodated, although my server had no idea really of the reservation -- We started with ordering a bottle of wine for four of us to share, the South African Sauv Blanc arrived warm -- the chiller I had to request, barely cold. Upon ordering our food -- the server did not start with the women, but simply randomly selected who to take order from -- food was delivered to the incorrect person, was "auctioned off" by simply standing at the table and shouting the food item -- and was not served from proper side of guest ( a nuance i wouldnt expect at this point ) We were the second table in the entire Dining Room for a reservation at 8pm... and no other tables came in. A table of two tried seating around 9pm, to which my server told them they were closed -- and from there everything seemed rushed (checks out before dessert and coffee finished) . Amongst everything, the food was decent -- but was so hard to overlook everything else. The manager did not once stop to make sure we were enjoying everything... Horrible, horrible experience. I had fun because of the company I was with -- but please be aware, although supposedly they have a wonderful brunch... I would never step foot back in that restaurant.

It was six (6) of us whom visited the Beacon Bar & Grill for Fathers Day. First, they sat us in a room that had no a/c; had three (3) fans that we used to put in our windows years ago! We arrived at 1:00 for our reservations. The majority of the food stations where EMPTY. Available food was all FRIED, greasy and appeared old. It was smoky from the omelet station. For the price that they charge there was nothing there without breading. There was no shrimp, so salmon, NOTHING baked all FRIED. Everything was FRIED; why....majority of clientele?, well I left FRIED a long time ago and was yes, expecting something I could stomach. That turned out to be the waffles that I asked to stop cooking when they became the perfect tan.....otherwise they where like waffle chips. Mac & Cheese was boiled and sprayed with cheese, ALL the food was horrible - aside from my designated waffles. Even the bacon was broken and burnt. Regarding all day mimosas........had to beg for refills until it was almost time to go and I suppose the waiter saw our plates piling up and figured we could only hold another glass and a half. All our guests where very unhappy with the meal, presentation and décor of place and get this....it was free for them. We will not be going back or making no recommendations to anyone.

Short stay in DC, staying at the Beacon Hotel. You could do better by buying frozen. I cant believe anyone would actually eat at this place after trying two of the items I ordered. First, unfriendly service . I asked for something off the lunch menu during dinner, a salmon salad (a salad, which they sell during dinner, with Salmon, which they also serve during dinner) and they wouldnt make it, even though they make the salad and the salmon during dinner, they just wouldnt put it together. As per another reviewer here, you get the feeling its more of a local watering hole, and not much of a food joint. I wound up ordering the Pulled Chicken Sliders, which were nothing more than the Jack Daniels pulled chicken that you get at Costco. The buns were okay....The homemade chips that it came with werent even cooked. most of them were inedible. I went to the Sky Bar, and had some homemade guacamole, which was ridiculously bad. It was like a store bought avocado dip, with minor chunks of avocado added, with some added lime juice. It was dripping juice. I always finish guacamole, but I couldnt even eat half of this. Save yourself from ordering food here. This place could also use an overhaul of the management. There is no apparent desire to appease the customer.

I would not recommend going here for a group event. I made reservations well in advance for an event I was hosting. The hostess who I called said I was all set with a reservation for happy hour (with a table and everything, which I thought was fantastic), and a table for dinner following. It took me 2 hours door to door to get there from Alexandria, so I was not there to greet my group. When I made the reservation, I was told the happy hour occurred on their roof. So, I told my group to go there. Turns out, that is NOT where the happy hour is. I was later told that they dont even take reservations for happy hour, so I was even more irked as I continued with the reservation in reliance on this fact. I was also told that there was $5-$10 parking available through the hotel, turns out it was full and I had to pay nearly double at a nearby lot. I was NOT told that either. I told the manager of the issue and she shrugged it off. Didnt offer to buy a round or even a single drink for the table. Dinner was mediocre at best. The atmosphere and friendly waiter we had gave the place two stars instead of one. I would strongly suggest checking out other places before reserving here since their staff and their knowledge are inconsistent and incorrect.

When one of the best rooftop bars in DC has a 3.5 star rating on Yelp, you assume the worst. "The food must be so bad." "Maybe the service is just the worst." These are the thoughts running through my head as my team walked to Beacon for a business lunch on a Monday. After a two hour lunch meeting at Beacon, I left surprisingly impressed. Heres why: 1) The food: For being a 3.5 star rated restaurant on Yelp, I really enjoyed my meal. Warm, fresh bread kept flowing to our table to tie us over before our meal came. I ate a few pieces of bread only and I am so glad I didnt fill up on it because my fried chicken burger was amazing! It came with a sizeable, tasty side salad and the burger itself was amazing. It was a perfectly tender, white breaded chicken breast with cole slaw, bacon, and a spice mayo on it. Wow. 2) The service: Our server was friendly and attentive. 3) Atmosphere: We were seated in the sun room offering perfect lighting to our meeting and meal. I may not come here every weekend, but Beacon is an excellent option for a business lunch!
