I came to Five Star while in town visiting a friend. We decided to partake in restaurant week before a show that night. We made reservations early as our show was at 7pm. When we arrived it was pretty empty but by time we left it was packed. Restaurant week is my favorite thing and I cant believe how inexpensive it is. The Five Star menu was $20 for three courses consisting of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For the appetizer we all got something different and decided to share sort of tapas style. We had the heatseeker shrimp, Crab Rangoons, and Chinese BBQ Pork Tostadas. I am not a shrimp person but with some peer pressure I decided to try it. It was actually very good and did not taste "fishy". The serving size for the shrimp was also very large. I would have never guessed that we would get a whole bowl of shrimp. The crab rangoon was my appetizer of choice. It was very good (Im not sure why I have always loved crab rangoon even though it is seafood). For my entree I had the Grilled Beef Tenderloin and it had a Sweet Pepper Relish and Black Bean Sauce. They also give you rice as well. The tenderloin was perfect! The relish and sauce mixed with the rice made a perfect side! Everything was cooked to perfection. By the time dessert came out I was stuffed. But lets be honest...there is always room for dessert. I went with the warm chocolate cake. It wasnt too bad but I was hoping it would have been a bit richer. It was a little light on the chocolate taste. Overall this was an excellent dining experience and the service was great as well.

This is by far the best asian restaurant Ive been to in the triangle. Our company recently had a holiday party here, and EVERYONE loved their food. The decor is fun, the service is excellent (especially good considering we were such a large party and only handled by a single server), and they have a cute punk anti-establishment vibe (like charging 75 cents for forks on the menu, since they expect you to use chopsticks). I had a chance to try the generals chicken, sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, and their scallion pancakes - all were excellent. In addition, I learned an insider tip from coworkers who go there regularly: any dish can have tofu substituted in, and if you order it super crispy in either the generals sauce or the sesame sauce, it WILL BE the best Chinese thing youve ever tasted. Amazing. And I dont even like tofu, usually. Anyway, cant beat them for service and quality, and normally that comes with a ridiculous price tag, but not here. Highly recommended.

We were staying in NC to visit some family. Didnt really feel like going out to dinner. We found this place on Google and made the 15 minute drive from our hotel in Raleigh to get take out. This place was ahhh-mazing! We had General Soas chicken, beef and broccoli, shrimp fried rice and crab rangoon... unlike traditional Chinese resturants, there was real crab in the crab rangoon, everything was fresh, and this was by far the BEST Chinese we have ever had! Although we didnt dine in, we did go in to pick up our order and everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was very nice. We will definitely be dining here again the next time were in the area!

I came here on a weekday night with my fiance, he got the duck with a glass of white wine and I had the pork with a glass of red wine. Hands down the pork dish was absolutely phenomenal. The serving size was plentiful and the pork tasted decadent and rich. Unfortunately for my finace, his duck was lacking significantly in portion size and he preferred my dish a lot better! The atmosphere is a cool vibe, it doesnt look like much on the outside but as soon as you come in it has a nice cool downtown vibe to it and the service was good. Just stay away from the duck if you want to eat a good sized meal.

We dined in the main dining room where I had the best fillet in Raleigh! The restored Victorian home set the mood for fabulous food and a quiet intimate dinner. Its so refreshing to eat and have a quiet conversation at the same time! The hostess and wait staff were very helpful and worked well together. This triple-diamond restaurant earned its ranking from the first piece of bread to the last creme brulee, I rated service, food, and value all 5s. Okay, "value" usually means less expensive, but in this case the food was so excellent and you got great value for the high cost!

Five Star Restaurant barely makes 1 in my book. All style and no substance. My husband and I went here because it appeared to be an interesting spin on classic Chinese, boy were we wrong. The food was no better of sub-par take-out (but 2-3 times the price). The service was poor to say the least (we were privileged to be able to grace the restaurant with our presence). After 7:30/8pm the sound is such that you cannot hear the person next to you speak. However, they do have trendy decor and DJs playing on the weekend.

This was was extremely good. I was looking for Chinese food and figured Id give this place a try. Certainly not your typical Chinese and more of an Asian-fusion. The meal was delicious. The desserts selection and dessert itself werent all that great, but the entree certainly made up for that. Cool ambiance, tons of seating upstairs and down, with pool table upstairs. Hard to recognize from the street. In fact, looks like dive-hole from the street but certainly the opposite once you open their awesome door.

Its unfortunate they decided to stop serving lunch as my coworkers and I really enjoyed making the walk down to Five Star . We loved the Generals chicken and Crispy Beef specials. The only other complaint about the restaurant I have, besides no longer being open for lunch, is that it ALWAYS smelled like mop water. Why does it have to smell like that? Please fix the mop water smell and bring back lunch. I will hold this review hostage at 3 stars until the following demands are met.

We love Five Star and always start with the delicious heat-seeker shrimp as an appetizer to share. Five Star chicken is consistently tasty and the Thai peanut noodles with shrimp contains lots of shrimp and is flavorful and relatively mild - a good choice if youre not looking for something hot and spicy. The wait staff was attentive. I would rate as 5 stars except some lighting was out and our table area was quite DARK, even at 6pm! Chocolate cake is awesome for dessert!

We were here for restaurant week and had the best meal out that weve had at any restaurant in Raleigh. The food was amazing! The heat seeker shrimp dish is a must-have. My husband had a beef dish and I did tofu - both exceeded expectations. The portions are great too - we easily had enough to take home for lunch the next day. The service was also wonderful - we always had full glasses and our food was delivered promptly. We will be back soon!

Theyve got a great atmosphere here. Its a great place for a quiet dinner date. Its dimly lit and beautifully decorated. The appetizers are my favorites when I come here. Love the dumplings (fried) and the green beans. They also have a nice selection of specialty drinks and live music later in the evenings. There is only street parking and the neighborhood isnt well lit so I suggest having a companion to walk with you if youre going after dark.
