I had the WORST service here of my life. I will never go here again and I will make sure to tell all my friends NOT to go here after my experience. First, I ordered the Salmon Crunch Appetizer and there was hair in it. I politely told the waitress, whose name is Amy, and she refused to take my plate away until SHE saw the short black hair (My hair is long and red by the way so I knew it wasnt mine). When she saw the hair she stubbornly took it away and sighed aloud. I shrugged it off and when she came back I asked for the Sashami Appetizer, which was the same price as the food I originally ordered. When she brought me this my friends gasped because it was a plate of raw fish. Nothing else. I should add that I ordered this under the SUSHI APPS menu, so I was expecting sashami sushi because that is what I ordered and is what I normally get at other Asian places. I told the waitress "I thought there would be rice or seaweed or something else" because it was supposed to be sushi and she snarkily replied "this is it." Then I asked if i could at least have some rice with it and she replied with a short "no." I proceeded to ask again and she spoke over me with another "no." My friends and I were shocked at how rude this lady was. I took a picture of my receipt to write this review and get her name. It says my server was 12. Amy. I hope the owner sees this review and does something about how poorly a customer has been treated.

The food was great. The spring rolls were some of the best of my life - this is an amazing statement considering I ordered delivery. To reiterate, the spring rolls were so perfect with my takeout order, I cant even imagine how wonderful theyd be at the restaurant. However, I ordered the BEEF Red Curry, but only 4 pieces of beef were in the whole dish (no joke, I counted). The dish was delicious and the vegetables were perfectly cooked; the kitchen must have kept them al dente before adding them to the stew mixture, but they still kept a perfect texture!. I just wish there had been more beef --- since I did pay extra for it. Overall though, thank you Spicy 9 for a wonderful meal!!

The waitresses there were incredibly rude. We moved one of the tables because we needed space to sit into the booth itself and then they made a whole commotion of moving it back to make sure there was space for this midget table on the right of us. There was no one sitting there and the restaurant was not even 1/4th full of people. This was a iced out day where no one was going to franklin street. Had they done this when there was a ton of people, I would have been ok with it, but no. Seriously they need to know how to deal with customers better, we just ended up leaving after how ridiculous they were to us and didnt even wait for our order.

The food is overpriced and clearly not authentic. Its hype comes from it being the only available source of quality fresh seafood, but even among its rolls and so-called "sushis", it is tremendously lackluster, most of it being cooked. Dont go if youre looking for quality. Go if you need to impress some people who dont really have any idea of Japanese or Thai cuisine. I can stand to eat it because its as good as is available for a college student, but in terms of quality for price, it is among the low of mid-tier Asian cuisine.

The waiter completely ignored the other side of our table of 7 when it came to drink orders. Then within 30 minutes of waiting for her to come back and we went ahead with finally ordering the drinks for the other 3. Then went ahead with ordering food in case we had to wait another period of time. Also it was not busy and the reason why say that is because we could see her eating by the shushi bar, thanks but no thanks.

The main good thing there were the prices. The food was average, and the wait staff had no idea what was in any of the foods, and didnt have any desire to ask the kitchen staff or check ingredients, even though it hinged on whether I would order any food or go elsewhere. When we finally figured it out, the food really wasnt terrible, but the service was so disappointing that I wont go back.

The food is not good -- the teriyaki chicken tasted exactly like a Lean Cuisine. Sushi was inadequately filled with rice and fell apart while eating. We had to ask for everything-- sugar for tea, napkins, utinsels... extras napkins were brought with our food spilled all over it. There are a lot of dining choices in this town. Spicy 9 isnt one if them.

My goodness, my taste buds have never been so happy! My sister and I shared a dragon roll, a California roll and some sesame chicken and I had a house salad to start. Everything was delicious and presented elegantly. Service was swift and the environment clean and stylish. Very reasonably priced at under $30. Would highly recommend to all :)

Overall the experience is great. Clean bar, sushi made in front of you, great design, bright lighting, and attentive staff. My biggest issue is that a lot of the sushi has too much going on. Like theyve tried to fit too many flavors in one roll and it falls short. Some work great, others are just lackluster.

Stopped here for lunch with a friend the other day, and had the Pad Thai with tofu. It was absolutely delicious, and a large portion for a reasonable price. Lots of good vegetarian options. Service was decent, nice atmosphere, and we got our food quickly despite the lunchtime rush. Im sure Ill be back again.

Im only in Chapel Hill 3 or 4 times a year, but when I come through here I always visit Spicy 9. Ive liked every dish Ive ever gotten at Spicy 9. Most of there selections (other than Sushi) have a Thai or Korean influence. I especially like their noodle bowls - makes me feel like Im back in SE Asia.

Glad there is finally a sushi place in CH. Yeah there were others places but this has the variety you look for when you go get sushi! Right on Franklin street so totally walkable and parking is all around. Usually pretty busy and wait staff can have some improvement but overall pretty good!

This is a really great sushi place. Very consistent quality and quantity. Also they have buy one get one free roll specials everyday. And honestly, some pretty unique roll ideas. You can go there with $20 and get an amazing sushi meal and still have enough left over for a good tip.

I would give 0 star if there is a choice. Rude waiters, long waiting time for the food. Eventually the food comes, it was not the one you ordered and charged you the expensive one. This is not the Asian food taste. Never go there. The nearby lime and basil makes much more sense.

The sushi rolls are large and unique. They are also BOGO (buy one get one free), which makes it an affordable sushi dinner. Two rolls + miso soup will satisfy most appetites. Fun but loud atmosphere at peak times. I usually get rolls to go but eating at the bar is also enjoyable.
