LARGE PARTIES BEWARE..!!! I am quite the foodie and have frequented this establishment since its opening several years back. We are fans of the Sunday lunch and patronize the restaurant at least once a month. Although the quality of food and service has taken a dive after the change in ownership, we still enjoyed the atmosphere. So much so, that myself and my Fiancé seriously considered this for our upcoming wedding reception. We researched the lunch menu options as well as the seating arrangements before meeting with the "wait-staff". The menu items topped out around $9.50 for what was selected. First thing when we met with the wait-staff to plan the 1:30-2:00 reception, we were told that we would be ordering from the "Dinner Menu", which represents an immediate 25% increase in cost for the same food selections. When we questioned why we were selecting dinner items for a 1:30 event, we were told "thats what WE prefer". after what seemed to be a bad used car buying experience, between the wait-staff running to the back to "see what she could do with her manager", we finally had her agree that a 1:30-2:00 reception WOULD be considered lunch and that we were to select from the menu accordingly. Problem solved, right.? WRONG.!!! VERY WRONG.!!! We inquired about multiple lunch menu items for $9.50 that were going to work great for our 60 guests, UNFORTUNATELY we were told that these same $9.50 items would now cost us a minimum of $15.00.!!! Confused yet.? We sure were. When we questioned the immediate 58% price increase we once again got, "let me go to the back and talk to the manager again" After returning, we were told that the restaurant would have to have 2-3 additional wait-staff to serve us and thats the reason for the 58% price increase. Confused as we were, we questioned "doesnt the wait-staff work for gratuity" (18% on parties larger than 8). AT this point we were told, "sorry, we just can’t afford to do your lunch for that price" (THE LISTED PRICE ON THE MENU). Moral of the story: We were willing to bring 60 of our closest friend to Imperial Koi and share with them what we THOUGHT to be an enjoyable experience, instead what we got was what we feel to be an OVERPRICED, UNDER EDUCATED ballpark quote from a restaurant looking to EXPLOIT a couples desire to dine with them on their special occasion.

I visited Imperial Koi this past week for lunch. I am a foodie and a fan of Asian cuisine. My visit was during lunch (around 12:30). I was very impressed with the decor. Very upscale and modern which is a nice trend that seems to be growing among Greensboro restaurants. Because my friend and I were on our lunch hours and somewhat pressed for time, we both chose Japanese lunch boxes and soup as a starter. I chose the hot and sour soup and my friend chose the miso. Ironically, the hot and sour soup was quite bland. In spite of the soup being spicy, there was no other taste. I added salt which helped a great deal. My friend and I shared the soups to share tastes. My friend agreed that my soup was bland although we both found the miso to be just right. For our entrees, I chose the New York Strip lunch box and my friend chose the chicken teriyaki. Both were served w/ white rice, salad, California roll, vegetables and dumplings. Our food arrived in good time. I was dissapointed with my choice because the steak was not seasoned. I asked for ginger sauce because without it, my steak had no flavor. My friend enjoyed her chicken although she said that she would have liked more teriyaki sauce in the dish so that she could have enjoyed adding rice into the chicken without the rice drying up the dish. Everything else included with the box was great. I wanted so much to enjoy my meal and may try it again just to see if our experience was isolated. However, the restaruant being on the upper end of the price scale gives me pause. I rated the Imperial Koi a 3 because the restaurant is beautiful but the food was not what I expected.

We dined here shortly after it opened. Recently, when asked where I wanted to have dinner for my birthday, I chose the Imperial Koi. Driving over from WS, I was excited about the prospects for the evenings meal. Michael, our wait person was the typically inscrutable Asian and started off quite perfunctorily, but once he realized we were there for a special evening, he became friendly, helpful and quite attentive. We tried many different dishes as we wanted to truly experience the "fusion" aspects of the menu. It was all quite delicious. I must say, the only thing that wasnt quite as good as the hype was the Angry Dragon Roll, which was still VERY tasty. Altogether, it was outstanding food, served quite professionally in a wonderful atmosphere with great decor. It is not competing to be your favorite neighborhood sushi or Thai restaurant, and it is certainly light years ahead of your closest chinese take-out joint. However, if you want an incredible "Asian Fusion" dinner experience, you cannot go wrong here. The pricing is in line with restaurants in most of the cities to which I travel, but definitely not for the food-court crowd. Bon Apetit

We arrived at 6:15. The place was practically empty so we were seated and were able to order appetizers and food for the kids quickly. Our edamame showed up in a few minutes and our kids got their sushi and pad Thai. It went downhill from there. We waited 30 minutes for our waitress to take the rest of our order (various rolls, sashimi and nigiri). I have no idea what the delay was, but it was strange to wait that long. Good company, so it wasnt a big deal. 30 minutes later, the sushi arrived (well after the kids food had arrived). I took one bite of the tuna and immediately spit it out. It was the worst tuna sashimi I have ever had in my life. Someone else tried the salmon and they too said that it wasnt good. All in all, bad service and not so fresh sushi made for a bad 2 hour experience.

This new restaurant will exceed your expectations in every way. We visited recently, and on the advice of our waiter, ordered the Angry Dragon Roll (spicy tuna with a twist) and the Imperial Koi Roll (eye-widening flavors). Both were incredible! My wife could not say enough good things about these dishes, and their staff is very courteous and professional as well. The decor looks elegant and modern, and even the restrooms demonstrated a level of excellence not seen in many 4-star hotels! You will pay more than you would at a dive sushi bar, but Imperial Koi is a premium dining experience, and worth every penny!

We immensely enjoyed Koi when it first opened but began frequenting Sai across the street for our love of Thai food and slightly better sushi and atmosphere. We decided to head over to Koi since Sai was closed this evening and had the worst sushi of our lives. The mushy cat food ("Spicy Tuna Rolls") made me sick and the infamous Angry Dragon Roll was a disappointment to say the least. Harris Teeter has better sushi since it is at least edible. Also, $53 for a bottle of sake and two sushi rolls is a very steep, considering how bad it was. Never again!
