We have been to Thali of India many times, however, I would not like to go there again since I found they have started serving frozen food. We had ordered Dahi Vada(an Appetizer) last time we went there and we found that it was frozen and not fresh. If you ask them to make the entrees spicy, be ready to swim in lots of oil and spices. I dont think they have the resources nor know how to make and serve authentic Indian food. Also, we saw some of their staff was having alcohol on a table in the dining area. I was surprised the person in-charge did not take any action even though the restaurant had 4-5 tables with customers. As a courteous endeavor, the person at the cash counter waived off the charges for Dahi Vada and asked if he could give any sweet dish to make up for the mistake. I think, till that time, I had already decided this place goes out of my list. Hope they take some strong steps to make amends.

Thali was once my favorite restaurant in the Rochester area. This evening we went for the buffet and it was terrible. The prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. The vegetables were not cooked enough and the spices did not have a chance to mix in and flavor the food. The spinach pakoras were not cooked in the middle. They served vegetable rolls that were clearly from a package and Chinese. The chicken was rubbery. The tea tasted burnt. The dessert was the only acceptable food offering. Thalis poorly prepared food is a huge disappointment.

This was my first Indian restaurant in Rochester, so I cannot compare to others, but I do love and appreciate Indian cuisine and this place left much to be desired. Food was OK but not really Indian. First hint I should get was when server asked how hot food should be - and then bringing the hot sauce. FWIW, real Indian food is supposed to have intense spicy taste, not hot sauce added. Could be good intro to Indian cuisine for americans who do not like real spicy food but I will not return unless all other Indian places in Rochester are even worse.

A restaurant with a vibrant, modern, colorful decoration. A good place for business, family, dating or solo visits. The menu covers all regions of classic Indian food, from all regions of India. I can not say that it is cheap but neither is it expensive but I can say that the food is served with impeccable presentation and that the taste and freshness justify the price you pay. Service is fast, attentive and courteous. Parking available. They have lunch buffet from 12 to 2 pm then it is close and reopen until 6 pm for dinner.

Loved it. Food was good, service was friendly and quick. I doubly appreciated that they didnt shove entrees in our face until we had finished our appetizer (unlike some Asian places Ive been). The portions arent super-sized American enormous but thats not a bad thing & theyre great for the value. Dinner for 2 came to just over $40 including drinks, appetizer, entrees and a 15% tip. Dont be fooled by the low prices & strip-mall facade: this is my favorite Indian restaurant in Rochester, and a really nice place for dinner.

One of my all time favorite restaurants in Rochester. Not only is the food amazing but the service is out of this world. They consistently go above and beyond whether we dine in or take out. (We were even offered tea as we waited for our take out. Who does that? Most places barely pay you any mind if you order to go.) They are also incredibly knowledgeable in food allergies and sensitivities. My fiance has celiac disease and they are always accommodating to his dietary restrictions. Love this place!! I highly recommend!!

Went late on a Monday night. The kitchen appeared to be closed, but there was still a full buffet open. Food was fine, standard Indian fare but nothing to write home about. It seemed to have been sitting out a little longer than I was fully comfortable with, and the whole place gave off a bit of a grimy air. Again, no tangible things that seemed off, maybe just the combination of the ambiance and the decor. Would give it another chance if in the area and I really wanted Indian food, but not if it was out of the way.

Im not a huge fan of Indian food (or maybe I am now?) but that aside I still gave them 4 stars because I was able to find some delicious items on the buffet. We went as a group during lunch and they were accommodating. Someone was always quick to fill our glasses or remove dirty dishes. Overall this was a good trip and Ive been thinking of that delicious chicken ever since I left. I dont recall the name of the dish but Ill be eating it again.

I love Indian food and Thali is quick to deliver on my hankering for tandoori cousin. They have authentic fair from the east from Chicken Masala to Vindaloo. There is a lunch buffet and dinner buffet respectively. The buffet selection changes from day to day so there is always an opportunity to try something new. If thats not your style choose from the menu. The owner is nearly always in the kitchen making sure every dish comes out perfect.

Thali of India is an absolute must try. The food is some of the best Ive ever had, and the service was kind and quick. The restaurant itself is clean and looks very inviting. The quiet sound of the guitar player was also a surprise, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I could not recommended this place enough, and I will continue to go to Thali of India for as long as I can.

Come for dinner, avoid the buffet. Dinner: Good service, rich flavors. One of the best in the area. 4/5 Lunch Buffet: Curries tasting overwhelmingly of canned food, almost nonexistent spicing. Bone dry and ultra-dense pakora etc. Just awful. 0/5 I know the rule of thumb has lunch buffet worse than dinner, but the quantity is usually at least representative.

I ordered biryani and gulabjamun. The worst biryani I ever had. They added biryani masala powder to plain rice and the gulabjamun is not even worth a penny..They add too much oil and butter to the items and the items are too costly..I suggest do not have gulabjamun which is $3.95.This shows they are making money just by spoiling the fame for the Indian food.

Very good food, excellent service, nice atmosphere with live music. We went to this restaurant with a two year old(OMG!) and the staff could not have been nicer to her. Service was quick and they brought out something for my daughter to munch on right away. Dinner went very smoothly. So nice. The price and service cannot be beat.

Food and service was amazing! if you like it spicy dont be afraid to order your food hot, they dont go overboard like most Indian restaurants. We ordered our food medium and it was delicious but will order hot next time. They had live music which was nice and the restaurant and restrooms were spotless. Will be back again soon.

I just stumbled on this place and obviously got lucky. Coming back again and again, either on my own or with a date, Ive always been delighted. Occasionally theres been live music, but I dont know if its regular, common or was just a one-off. The service has always been friendly, helpful and efficient. I couldnt ask for more.
