As a hurried bride, I picked The Brown Derby from Yelp reviews as one of our choices for our rehearsal dinner (6/5/15) based on their location and capability to host a crowd of about 40 people. However, when I met John to discuss plans, I was pleasantly surprised that I would not need to interview any other facility - he won me over on the spot. His professionalism and friendliness, not to mention his skills as a restaurateur, were evident right away. He and the staff of the Derby made everything so EASY for me - I didn’t have to worry about anything - just showed up and had a great time. He was very thorough about going through our options for meal style (we chose family style) and the bar, which made it easy for us to choose food options and drink plan that worked for us. We were able to satisfy guests who were meat eaters and vegetarians, teetotalers and drinkers. The comment I heard most often was, “There was so much food! And it was so good!” I enjoyed everything I ate, and there was so much food that I didn’t even get to try everything, being stuffed. The servers were so attentive and really fast and polite. The location is also really great - right by the train station and the river. I couldn’t be more happy with The Brown Derby, John and the staff. If you need to throw a party - this should definitely be a top choice for you.

If I could pick 0 stars I would. First off the service was very slow. We waited for about 45 minutes to receive food and she only brought out 1 plate and there were 3 people eating. The plates had been given to the wrong table. And then after another 30 minutes of waiting for food she brought out cold food. We then asked for a hot meal and waited for another 30 minutes. Our meal never showed up so we left. Horrible service. Not once did the manager come and ask how our time was going or apologize for the inconvenience. Only after we walked down to complain did he ask "what do you want? Does a gift certificate work?" Do not go here. The manager doesnt care and it reflects in his employees service.

Love this place. We stumbled upon it and thanks to the great Google reviews decided to give it a try. The host/bartender/owner was so nice to us. We had my 2 year old with us and she wanted a cookie (not on the menu) and since it was a slower time of day, I ran across the street to get it for us even though we did not expect it. A REALLY nice person. The food was delicious (a new cook back but who had worked there previously) I would call it unique, carefully crafted American food. We really enjoyed our time there (oh and great beer on tap). Thank You!

A good beer selection and some decent food choices make up for the often blah service you receive at The Derby. They have some happy hour specials without huge crowds, which appeals to my group of friends. If you like wings, definitely try their 24 karat gold kind, they are amazing.

Great time at the Derby tonight. Want to thank the owners for having the Poughkeepsie Jazz project and DCC Jazz Ensemble jamming all night. The talent was as good as you will find anywhere. In addition, wanna thank the servers who never missed a beat. Thanks to both of them!!!!

I have never had a bad meal or drink while here. Was sad when we came on a Friday night and were turned away because we had no reservation but I got smart and made one for tonight.. I just hope to see that sweetie John it has been too long.

Good place, just visited for the first time. Music on Friday night was great throwbacks. Prices were reasonable for New York and the staff was GREAT about cleaning tables, waiting tables and getting you served from behind the bar quickly.
