My second time visiting this restaurant ( Garden City location on 11/15/09). I would say if you are going because of your children, whether they enjoy the psuedo Benihana show or a quick bite, then it is OK (just barely OK...). The food is NOT authentic Japanese. Neither is it Chinese. I would say it is con-Fusion asian cusine. I was afraid to try the sushi. It looked OK, just did not want to be disappointed. I had the chicken and veg. tempura. The batter was too thick, the chicken was a MacNugget-type of meat, and the vegetables were not tasty and mushy. My wife had the soba, it was mushy. Soba should be similar to spagetti cooked correctly with a al-dante texture. my children had the habachi, which I tried last time. The children liked it. But they also like MacDonalds, so can you trust their judgement? Good Luck...

We stopped by Sushi Ya for lunch with my husband for hibachi . They gave us lunch special menu. We got 2 orders shrimp($15) and chicken and shrimp( $18). Since it was lunch special we got a very very small portions of food. Shrimps were good but chicken was terrible , my husband didnt even eat it. They asked us whether we want fry rice or white rice , we picked fried. Rice was good. When we got the bill it was $44,45...... It looked too high to us and the reson for that rice was for extra charge.... Every hibachi place I have been to rice was always included in the price. We ended up paying almost $50 for a very small portion of lunch and the food that wasnt even very good.

Sushi Ya is the trendiest place to eat in Garden City. Amazing food, friendly/caring staff and a fabulous bar. Cant go wrong with the atmosphere but its close encounter seating. Not something that you cant handle but just to know. Not just for the variety seriess but for the amatures too (the "never tried sushi before" -- just try the California roll, miso soup and Ginger salad) :)

Weve come here for lunch a few times, and the food is always actually pretty good, decent price, cute and modern decor. Some of the waitresses however can be a little bitter. Overall enjoyed the experience, still come here often.

Went here for a birthday dinner. Great service and really large portions at the hibachi. The chefs are very personable and put on a great show for the kids. Parking has never been a problem when weve gone there.

My husband and I went to eat there 7/9/08. Food was really good, but our waitress horrible. She acted like we were bothering her. Even good sushi/sashmi cant make up for horrible service. Prices were mid range.
