I am Japanese, born and raised in Tokyo. I know what authentic Japanese food is am selective about which Japanese restaurant I go to. After reading the many good reviews I decided to give this place a try.The Sushi was acceptable but overall experience was terrible. I order the restaurant week special Dinner. The Salad was watery and the dressing was oily. The presentation looked like someone puked on my plate. The shumai was rubbery and something you can buy at the frozen food section. Finally the worst part was they completely forgot my husbands dinner. It was not busy at all. This is the worst experience I have had in the last few years. Do not recommend.

Youve got the typical "japanese restaurant in the US" menu - lots of sushi, rolls, yakitori, and whatever. But, if you look closely, youll find a couple of hidden gems on the menu that are, quite simply stellar. The Kamemashi (think "rice cooked in a cast-iron pot w/ a crunchy bottom and chicken-fat drippings") is worth it, as is the Tonkatsu. The thing is, *this* is the stuff of excellence in "Japanese Cooking", so check it out... (Oh, most importantly, they have an excellent sake selection - and *that* makes the trip worth it all by itself!)

I am a true sushi fan, not a roll fan but actual sashimi and sushi. I have had sushi on the west coast and on the east coast and unfortunately in the mid-west. I have dined with Japanese expats working at The Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi - UFJ, so trust me when I say that this place serves high quality sushi at a very very reasonable price. To be serving Toro, White Tuna, Blue Fin Tuna and Yellowtail is great but also their UNI is super bright yellow which means its very fresh. Although their sake is just average, wish they had better ones.

Best sushi in town. This is a true Japanese restaurant, not the typical pan-Asian restaurant you usually find in Fairfield County. I would say it caters towards the purist/traditionalist side of the sushi eating spectrum. Quality of the fish is excellent, and occasionally theyll get some that is truly exceptional. Sushi rice preparation, likewise, is very good. They also have other Japanese dishes on the menu like bento boxes, don buri rice bowls, and soba and udon bowls.

I will admit Im not a big sushi fan. However, I had a craving for it last Thursday. Based on a friends recommendation and online reviews, my girlfriend and I decided to try Kotobuki. We were beyond impressed with the attentiveness of the staff and service provided us. In regards to the food, I was blown away. We sat at the sushi bar with Maza as per the previous reviewers recommendation. It was an outstanding meal from beginning to end. We will be back. Thanks again.

We just moved from NYC to Stamford and as japanese fans we went to try this place because of Johns review. I agree with him and was very satisfied with the food. Fish was fresh. We made a mistake ordering sushi A, which is a combination of sushi. I would recommend to go by the menu as they offer a variety of different sushis. We loved it and highly recommend it !p.s UNI was perfect! Ekura was too!

I like Kotobuki quite a bit. The only thing that I dont love is that the sushi comes warm. Ive heard that is the way that sushi should be served but I find it icky. I like the salad and the appetizers are excellent...try to gyoza and the age dofu!

theres only one place is stamford for fresh, beautifully prepared sushi - kotobuki. owner, sushi chef masa runs a great little restaurant that makes you feel like a regular. be sure to ask him for whats fresh that day, and try their regular menu.

Better than most of the midrange (i.e. not super high end) sushi restaurants around NY and CT. Sashimi was only okay, but the maki rolls were excellent. The appetizer of eel with burdock and egg was great as well - probably the best thing I ate.

Great place to eat. Sushi was awesome. Steamed trout was great. Still wondering how they made the bones vanish from the trout! Reasonably priced for great food and overall experience.

A wonderful GEM nestled in the middle of Summer Street for over 30 years. Sit at the sushi bar, and let MASA create a memorable and delicious meal.

The sushi here is fresh and excellent and the service is fabulous but they really need to update the decor, particularly the shabby carpet.
