Having spent the last 3 years living in Riverdale, searching for good eats, we were pretty pessimistic. However, one day we bumped into a delivery guy in our elevator and he gave us a menu. He spoke with the food he was delivering with such pride and conviction that I decided to try. So today, the four of us went to try Cumin and were dismayed that we were a minute past 10pm and they were already closing up. But we decided to go in anyway, and thankfully, Samir the owner graciously invited us inside and apologized that we would have to do take out. He pulled down 4 chairs (already flipped onto tables to vacuum) for us to sit and wait. He gave us free sodas and I had a Kingfisher beer. While we waited, Samir chatted us up with his tales of running the restaurant business since he was 19. The food didnt take long at all, and before we knew it, we were home and devouring amazing, hot, fresh Indian delicacies. We ordered a chicken kurma- a creamy, nutty stew of chicken and sauce. We also had lamb biryani- big chunks of tender meaty lamb studded in a bed of hot basmati rice and vegetables. We also had tandori style grilled vegetables. simple yet superb, with an assortment of vegetables, still crisp and retain its vegetable glory. Lastly we had lamb curry, forget what the names was. But this was the real winner. Mild spice but the flavors of lamb melded perfectly while there was no "gaminess" to the lamb. Two large nan-breads can easily be shared by 4 of us, and a whole other assortment chutneys, relish and sauces came in the bag. When we pulled everything out, the food covered the table and we definately got more than what we ordered! We were so delighted to FINALLY find a good restaurant in RIverdale, but its Indian! What a true hidden gem in this gastronomic waste land of south Bronx. Samir, Felix, We will definately be back for more, hopefully this time when your open! Thanks for accomodating us so graciously and warmly, and for the amazing food. Take out food just made the four of uss day. Thank you again. ***ATTENTION READER***- highly recomended, great food, kind and friendly service and the prices are good too! Oh, and dont end the night without ordering the mango-yohgurt drink "mango Lassis"- BEST FOOD IN RIVERDALE NY

Truly an amazing experience here at Cumin. The workers truly are attentive and want to ensure you have a good time. The food flavors are truly amazing. If you want spicy food be sure to let them know. I asked for non spicy since we were with a large group and everyone had different levels of what they wanted. If you have never had Indian food please try it. If you are a frequent attendee of Indian cuisines then make sure you let them know not to hold back the spice! We had chicken biryani, tandoori chicken wings, two lamb dishes, three flavors of naan, vegetable and meat samosas and more. The sauces provided on the table were sweet yet tangy I used it to dip the naan and added to the other food/samosas. I even thought about buying some samosas to go! My fiance is not huge on Indian food but he ate to his hearts content and left feeling very happy and satisfied. It is a friendly family owned restaurant which makes me feel comfortable and welcomed. I will certainly be back to dine here again!

Terrible Terrible Terrible.. I moved to Bronx from queens last year and i was looking for Indian restaurant found one and did order food which was terrible so after year i tried again finding Indian restaurant and found Cumin so i went there with my family to eat but just wanted to make sure that this is not the same restaurant i ordered food last year so i ask the person at the restaurant if i can taste a little bit before i order anything but the gentleman said they cant give me food to taste which i think is so stupid of them coz they lost a potential client that goes out every weekend to eat. Food is terrible and the people are worse and i think this place is only for the people who think that they know about Indian food. i will NOT suggest this restaurant if you are from north India. TRY NEHA PLACE IN YONKERS instead the staff is great and food is very good.

THIS PLACE IS A GEM! I never liked Indian food until my boyfriend brought me here and now we go and eat at this restaurant almost once a week. The service is wonderful all the people working in this restaurant are so nice! They have a dinner for 2 deal, in which you get 2 appetizers, 2 soups, 2 entrees and 2 desserts for about $45. It is such a great deal, it could actually feed 4 people since we have so much left over. The meal also comes with 2 bread baskets, mango chutney (spell check), unlimited amount of rice, and a bunch of other stuff i dont know the names of. I highly reccomend this place. One thing i did realize is that the other patrons are snoody and not nice to the waiters which i think is classless and rude. Anyways, love love! I highly reccomend this place!

Went here on a whim because our first choice was not available to dine at. Cumin starts off with quick and easy seating, the staff was quick to fill our water and was attentive. This all was ruined by the very mediocre food. We tried a variety of dishes all of which lacked reasonable seasoning, flavor and generally was of poor quality. Additionally when leaving the staff rudely asked us to move when we were putting jackets on to leave. When leaving we ordered wine to go since it was late at night however the owner made us wait over 15 minutes while they packed our wine into individual plastic containers and was to stubborn to accommodate and just leave it in an unopened container. Never coming back. I suggest you dont waste your time here.

The one word that comes to mind is "inconsistent," which is why I stopped going there. I had eaten-in and ordered take-out over the years, and they always do ask about your level of spiciness. This is where the inconsistency comes in: you can say "mild" during ten of your visits, and have it different every time, sometime blazingly hot, which is inedible to some people. Its also a bit expensive, which is not unique to this Indian restaurant, as I have seen this at most spots outside of the infamous "Curry Row" downtown. If youre really craving Indian food, its a valid place to try. But dont expect our second visit to taste just like the first.

When I first had Cumin in 2004, I was very disappointed as I detailed on Yelp. A decade later we tried Cumin again after the family was bored with the the restaurants in the area. Theyve improved greatly and were pretty happy with the food. We probably order here once every week or two. Ive tried many of the curries and Im partial to the Madras and Vindaloo. The Tikka Masala is good as well. The only item I think could use work is their Vegetable Samosa, which can be a bit odd and greasy. Overall Ive not had a bad meal from Cumin in the past year and I look forward to whenever we can order from this restaurant.
