Updating my review after another terrific lunch. Dawats lunch special is both generously portioned and delicious. I had the chefs special, which offers a choice between chicken korma and lamb rogan josh. I had the lamb — tender, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. An astounding assortment of sides accompanied the main to complete the meal: a side salad, big, fluffy naan, vege pulao, saag paneer, black daal, crackers and cilantro chutney/salsa/dip, and creamy rice pudding — all of it absolutely delicious. There was so much food; each side was the same size as the main course. There was plenty of food to satisfy two complete meals, each very satisfying and filling. Service was delightfully accommodating.

I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :) Food: Good! I love Indian food, so I usually get the "Id like to eat it the way youd prepare it on your house" :) But, I had a very bland dish!?! How can that happen with Indian food? I had the Chicken Jal Freezie and the Vegetable Samosa. Drinks: Good. Standard. Space: Is very spacious, really elegant and swank making it good for date nights or get-togethers. You get to watch the chef preparing the food from a glass enclosed kitchen area which make the dining experience cool and different. Service: The staff is very professional, courteous and attentive.

We shared a soup, appetizer, chicken dish, and bread. She got a glass of wine, I got a beer. Price with tip: $84.00 -- about double what youd pay at most Indian restaurants, and about four times what this meal was worth. The real problem was that cauliflower ginger soup was a granular, tasteless slurry, spinach fritters were deep-fried dry blobs of potato sticks and mashed leaves, chicken korma was tough, dry chunks of meat in a watery beige sauce. Plain rice resulted in a $7.45 addition to the bill, and my tall beer added $10.45. The only good thing is that NY is such a great dining city that we need never return to Dawat.

I am a frequent traveler and had Indian food in all major restaurants in most US cities. After doing some research on the Internet, I settled on Dawat for dinner with my family as it had decent reviews and awards. The menu was a bit pricey and justified the quantity but I was highly disappointed with the food quality and taste. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Saag because I thought these are relatively safe dishes and most Indian Resturants do a good job of it. To my disappointment here the taste was bland and probably the curry was old. I would never go back to Dawat and never recommend it to anyone.

It is good to see but the food not fresh, the chair are so dirty more then 25 years old, food is very expensive and the staff are not happy with owner because they dont have good pay only $ 40 they getting per week so every week changing staff. No one like to work there thats why work is more then 13 hour per day but pay is only $40 per week.

we went in a party of 8, during xmas, the service was bad, specially we want to order several different dishes but at the end the waiter decide not to bring some of the dishes and instead he reduced the diversity and brought 3 dishes of a kind. this was esier for him but a very bad experiance for all of us.

First visit.Butter Chicken was excellent, everything else was meh. Shrimp Tandoori came sizzling on a hot plate, but shrimp was overcooked and onions were under cooked.Free mango lassi for my daughter was nice.

This is the best Indian restaurant in Manhattan. The amazing food, sophisticated atmosphere and super-polite waitstaff keep me coming back even though it is well out of my way.

My friends recommended Dawat to me years ago and I have loved it ever since. Good Indian food. Good service. We had nan, onion kulcha and loved the bread choices as well.

Lovely room, elegant service, traditional food. I was a little disappointed that the food itself was so familiar and relatively uninspired, though very well rendered.

This place has one of the best Indian lunch options in NY. The variety, taste, genuineness of the items were incredible. And it was filling too. Highly recommend!

Food tastes great and the service is great too. Foods can be a little too expansive but the portion size makes up for the price.
