Why would a 24/7 in the middle of nowhere diner styled restaurant be so highly rated? I was always skeptical but i bookmarked it anyways due to its attractive, extensive menu. After lagging behind on schedule on our one last visit to the wedding venue before our big day, we found ourselves scrambling for a place to grab a quick lunch - thanks to yelp - we found Sanford only 0.2 miles away from where we were on the road. We came right in time for their pasta lunch special ($10 for salad or soup, pasta, and soft drink/coffee). When my fiancé and I first saw it on the menu, we thought the lunch portion had to be much smaller - yes, we were so wrong. As starters - we were both impressed by their chicken noodle soup, side salad - both were fresh and tasty. Then here came the pastas- short rib ravioli and chicken, mushroom risotto. Made from scratch and true diner size - my risotto alone could be my lunch and dinner. Both dishes tasted authentic and homemade - my risotto was creamy and perfectly cooked - there were so many chunks of white meat chicken pieces and various types of fresh not canned mushrooms! My fiancé really enjoyed his ravioli too but wished they went a little easier on the red wine base for the sauce. Nevertheless, what an incredible deal! Wished Sanford was a bit closer to the city or I would had loved loved loved to try every item on the brunch, lunch, and dinner menu!

Wow! This place is so busy that it is almost impossible to get a table yet alone make a reservation. We did manage to get a table when they were "slow" at 2AM when it became Valentines Day. It was still pretty crowded at that time which was unbelievable! I guess people will do whatever it takes or go whenever, doesnt matter when just to eat here. The waiter was nice and accommodating but forgot to offer us drinks when we sat down. I am willing to let a little thing like that slide. The food is pretty good depending on what you order. Their most popular item is the Gouda Duck Burger which tasted delicious. If you do not eat their Gouda Duck Burger, you have not visited Sanfords. Their big boy breakfast was pretty good. The turkey bacon with the home fries was good. The french toast was yummy. The eggs in my opinion was kind of overrated and just plain. I strongly suggest making a reservation way in advance. You can walk in but be prepared to wait AT LEAST an hour for a table and pray for a cancellation or a no-show. :) Honestly, this is the best brunch place to go to in all of Astoria. I have eaten in 3 or 4 other brunch places in the area but this stands out by far the best!

If you like rotten lettuce with bad customer service this is the place for you! Went for the first time last week and was served warmed white wine, when I said something I was asked if I wanted ice? I did enjoy my tuna tartare so since I am sick today I decided to order in through seamless web. My salad arrived and the lettuce was rotten, the chicken tough and my husbands pulled pork sandwich chewy, I tried to call the restaurant and was met with a busy signal for at least fifteen minutes. When I finally got through I was told that there was no manager there and that the owner just left. Then I was told, "I am sorry you are upset, but there is nothing we can do." Excuse me? Having worked in restaurants and having a former restaurant manager as a husband I can assure you there is plenty you can do. How about sending me food that isnt rotten! However, what I will do is a) forward my pics of the rotten lettuce to the health department, b) reverse my charges through Amex, c) never order again, and d) let everyone know that there are better places to eat in Astoria! Have never written a review before, but this issue necessitated a post!

Share review Compliment Send message Follow Melanie D. 5.0 star rating 3/20/2016 1 check-in Sanfords is the best "diner" of all time. they recently renovated, only making me love them more and more. everything on the menu is addictive because its just so amazing. they are open at all times, and the food is just as good at 5am as it is at 1pm. the house salad with the honey balsamic vinaigrette dressing is my favorite, the peasant salad is my second favorite. favorite appetizers are the mozzarella ravioli, and basically everything else. the wraps are pretty big, you may not finish one by yourself. you can even have steak at 3am if you want, wow what a dream come true. basically anything on the menu is amazing. cant go wrong here. you will probably have to wait to sit, even with the expansion they are still of high demand. dont get angry, just wait. its so worth it. dont listen to any negative reviews.

We were in the neighborhood, so we stopped in for dinner. I wanted to try everything. We ordered the stuffed shells mac n cheese. It was delicious. Definitely a combination of stuffed shells made like mac n cheese. Delicious and very rich. Then we ordered the Florentine egg rolls. It was delicious. We also tried the tuna tartare. I did not expect it to be great, as this was a diner. I was wrong. It was extremely tasty and fresh. It came with a guacamole and cucumber slightly spicy sauce. YUM. For the main course, we ordered the hangar steak with ravioli. It was very juicy, not tough. I ordered the salmon. It was very tasty. It came with a tamarind sauce on it. I love tamarind. They have specials but we were too late for the dinner special. Prices are very reasonable. The service was good. I would go back.

I came in here at around 1 am since its open 24/7. The server was nice but it took about an hour for our food to come out. ONE HOUR FOR APPETIZERS... and more than an hour for the entrees to come out. The fried calamari was rubbery, dry, and it didnt even taste like calamari. The guacamole is okay, thank goodness. Supposedly, their pulled pork sandwiches are supposed to be good, but it was so porky. It was greasy and not fresh. It didnt taste good, it tasted like pork that was sitting out for days. I would never come back because it was overpriced for poor quality food. Oh! And they got our order wrong and came out with the wrong food. So we had to wait another 30 minutes more for our RIGHT order.

Everything here is out of this world!!! The food is delicious and completely reasonable in price. The main dishes I usually get or recommend to friends are the Truffle Mac N Cheese, Filet Mignon Spring Rolls, California Quesadilla, Seafood Risotto, PULLED PORK SANDWICH (best thing on the menu), and pretty much all the steaks and pasta dishes are always perfect. Always ask for the days specials which are usually extremely appetizing. The drink menu is great. Brunch is also ridiculously good. This place is good for a chill hangout spot before / after a night of partying. Or a romantic date night. This is probably my favorite place in all of New York City!

Enjoyable midrange brunch and a great experience every time. OK for families or a low-key date night that can be enhanced by their wide range of specialty whiskeys and bar area away from family seating. Menu options are based on upscale homestyle dishes (Eggs Benedict, Smores Pancakes, etc) for $14-19 each with great options for mixing sweet/savory. Brunch must-have is their Add $10 for 2 Brunch Cocktails, more affordable than a bottle of wine but the mark-up isnt terrible. Be prepared for slower service during holiday weekends but they still get everything out father than Manhattan restaurants for a much better price.
