Not much to look at but the service and the food are the BEST! Weve been going there for a few years and its always great. They have a phenomenal salad bar with 5-6 soups and all homemade sides. Their German potato salad is awesome. We were there for dinner tonight and the fish was perfection. The kids had chicken fingers and gobbled them up. They were a nice sized portion too. My wife usually just gets the salad bar and has more than enough to eat. While the food is good, our favorite waiter is by far the best Ive ever experienced. I believe his name is Pat. In any event, he makes you feel welcome and is always on top of things. Hes always making someone smile or laugh, he deserves a round of applause. He truly is part of why we go there. It makes it just that much better. If you go there youll figure out who he is in about 10 seconds. The other staff is great too. Everyone you pass will say hi and smile, this is truly a gem of a restaurant. There is however one downside. Theyre only open on Fridays. They do serve food at the bar during the rest of the week, but the dining room is only open Fridays. You will not be disappointed.

He definitely has his mind mixed up. My husband and I eat at Whistle Stop almost every Friday night, we have had their catering for home parties, in addition to hosting private parties at the restaurant. My husband gets the fish fry, I usually get the grilled chicken which as the name states, is grilled and may I add with perfection! Each and every time, the food is excellent, the service is the best! Doug and Terri go out of their way to ensure that all our needs are met -- they are exceptional! The servers: Cindy (whom we miss very much), Lisa, Mary, Kelly, Patrick -- they are best! The hostess are wonderful! So Ken, dont punish the public by your immaturity, anger and disrespect. If you come in on a Friday night, the restaurant fills quickly --so come early or you will have to wait for a table (never for more than 5 to 10 minutes) -- so come over if you want an exceptional fish fry -- they gotta be doing something right when the parking lot is filled at 5:15 p.m.

I had a very good fish fry. The beer batter was thin and very crisp, which ensured the fish was nice and moist. The salad bar has a nice variety of sides and several soups.

Hawkeye Bowmen Archery Club has had their members banquet at the Whistle Stop for years. The menu they offer is excellent with a good variety to choose from.
