I was told this is a must, go-to brunch spot when in New Jersey near Montclair (Im a New Yorker). I did not enjoy the wait but did appreciate that there was a sidewalk vestibule at the entrance to keep the waiting people somewhat shielded from the cold winds and also the restaurants use of the "no.wait app" that texts you letting you know how long your wait is, how far along you are on the line and when your table is ready. The place is roomier than youd think, warm and cozy looking. I was sat at a table near the entrance which I was not happy about- despite the vestibule- each time the door opened (which was often because of the places popularity) I felt a chilly draft. The FOOD: very underwhelming. I got the cinnamon buns (not fresh), cream cheese filled challah toast (basically big French toast with low-flavor cream cheese), frijoles (a bit soggy but somewhat tasty), and chocolate chip pancakes (not freshly made pancakes). Overall the food came out veryyyy quickly which confirmed that the food was mass produced in advanced and simply heated up or kept in heated area ready to serve. I think a major contributing factor to this places popularity is simply that there are very few brunch spots in the area. All items were overpriced considering that none of it was freshly made. I would not recommend this place and unfortunately will not return.

My wife and I went to Toast just today and were terribly disappointed. I ordered the veggie burger, which itself was very acidic, as though they used vinegar to make it. The bun was stale and twice as big as the burger, and the sweet potato fries were undercooked and hard. At our waiters recommendation, my wife ordered the eggs benedict -- a brunch staple that Toast should have served up handily. Her hash browns were cold and overcooked and the hollandaise was bland, which made the whole dish mediocre at best. Our two sons had pancakes, which were spongy and uneventful. The younger barely touched his food. Although our waiter himself was friendly and apologetic about the wait, they were obviously understaffed. My wife had to get a menu herself, which we all had to share. But the worst part of our experience was the nauseating smell emanating from the basement, the door to which was right next to our booth. It was an odor that I can liken only to decay, or more likely an unemptied porta potty. The odor itself was enough to ruin the experience. With so many restaurants serving a solid brunch in Montclair, I am amazed that Toast certainly did not meet the hype that has been swirling around it for the past year or so. We wont be returning.

Pretty nice joint for breakfast. I usually judge a breakfast spot by the homefries. I can never find a place that makes them quite right. Here youll find your typical homefries made from diced potatoes but alas! No onions or peppers... Why!? I only seem to find them made like this at either small delis or in the city and even then its hit or miss. Nevertheless, they were done well and I enjoyed them. Scrambled eggs were typical, not greasy or anything. The turkey sausage was meh, which came in the form of small links. They were a bit too hard and lacked flavor. My brother had the french toast which was really good. Probably the best thing we tried. Really nice flavor to it and had this sublte cinnamon flavor was which just right. The OJ also tasted great. Not sure if they fresh squeeze, but te first sip was golden! Service was good as the wait staff was friendly and attentive. Place definitely worth checking out, Im just not sure Id go there again. If youre going on a cold day just make sure you dont get seated by the door or youre really not going to enjoy the experience as much. Hope this helps! Happy Eating!

DO NOT GO HERE! A friend and I who were interested in having a breakfast out of the norm decided to take a trip to Toast. We called ahead to see how long the wait was as we didnt have too much time. When we called to ask how long the wait for 2 was the response we got was, "We dont give wait times over the phone but the wait is not long if any. We can seat 2 easily." We decided to take the trip and when we arrived roughly 15 minutes later, the snobby red haired gentleman at the door said, "Wait is 45 minutes." When I advised him that we called roughly 15 minutes earlier, he said it didnt matter. Their clear "BAIT AND SWITCH" makes it obvious that their food doesnt carry the day. People, much like myself, have no problem waiting so long as the food and service is good. Left and went to Bluestone Coffee Co. which is always wonderful and a great staff to say the least. DO NOT GO UNLESS YOU WISH TO BE MISLEAD AND BAITED IN.

Lots of attention to detail in the decor and the service. It seems like they keep enough staff for a favorable staff/customer ratio. The wait staff all seem to be young, bright-eyed bushy-tailed, fit, twenty-somethings, easy on the eyes. Our server failed to mention the daily specials, although I heard the servers at all other tables do so. However, the food was unimpressive. My wife and I had omelets, and I know theres a bunch of ways to make them, but this method left me wanting. It was almost as if they made a thin egg crepe, without ingredients, and then wrapped the ingredients inside it as an afterthought. The eggs themselves were dried out. Cheese was sprinkled on top, and was room temperature. The potatoes tasted unseasoned and also dried out. The pancakes, at least, were a saving grace. Lastly - come early. The place gets crowded, and parking is at a premium.

THE VERY WORST Went here for a simple lunch soup and saladThe soup arrived cold and when Imreturned it to be reheated I asked for some crackers with it. when the waitress returned without the crackers I waited for quite a while as my soup cooled and no crackers. By the time the crackers arrived soup was cold a gain. When the plain salad of just lettuce and tomatoes was brought I asked if I might have some kind of bread with it. The waitress offered white bread, whole wheat, cracked wheat, biscuitnetc. I asked for a biscuit and received a concrete hockey puck which almost broke my tooth. When the bill arrived they charged $1.25 for that thing!!!. the final touch was the absolutely filthy condition of the restaurant where the floor was COMPLETELY covered with crumbs and other food debris!!! Would you go there????

Cons: Food was cold. Sent it back, came back a bit warmer - still kind of cold. Eggs were dry. Bacon was probably sitting out for a while. Didnt want to fight so just took the food to go. Overpriced for the quality of food. Raymonds, on church, has a lot better food. Pros: everyone was super nice, which is why we didnt fight the low quality food. They text you when your table is ready. They were very polite about sending food back. Even gave us some off on the cold French toast. Overall: it is possible we caught the cook on a bad day or just order the wrong things. Paid almost $30 and was not satisfied at all - probably because this place is so hyped up by other reviews. The other reviews sound like theyve had better experiences. We wont be going back but I hope your food comes out better than ours.
