They delivered us lettuce. Not kidding. I ordered take out for a group of four. Came late, of course, but I still tipped the delivery boy. Upon opening the bag I saw my order was not there, so I called to see if he could run it over. As I am speaking with the manager my friend comes over and tells me all of the dishes are empty. Its all just lettuce wrapped in shells, tortillas, etc. I explain this to the manager, asking if this is some kind of joke. She said they dont deliver to that place anymore (we were at the bar). Very rudely, by the way, as if it was something I should have known all along. I hung up, packed the "food" and drove over there to return their crap and get my money back. They had already cancelled the card but I wanted my tip back and told them they ought to give that kid his tip out of their own drawer. The bar we were at is opening a Mexican kitchen in a few days, so they were probably giving the finger to the bar, but how idiotic to involve innocent customers in your petty tiff with another restaurant. Besides all that, the manager was extremely rude on the phone, and in person was hardly apologetic. No coupon, credit, nothing. Just, "oh we were told not to serve there anymore." As if that explains why they went through the time and trouble to make and deliver empty dishes. Ive never had any dining experience as cold, rude and unsympathetic as I got from Tinga. I will never give them my business again, nor will the 20 people who witnessed what happened. And I suggest you just go somewhere else, a place that takes pride in its kitchen and treats paying customers with respect.

I agree with another reviewer that this was ok-non-authentic-Mexican food. Im pretty sure the salsa was jarred that came with the complimentary chips. The spinach quesadilla was pretty good and really filling - its good that 3 of us shared it. We didnt get share plates or extra napkins for it though, and it was a little drippy. While my shrimp tacos were full of shrimp, my husbands ground beef tacos were filled sparingly and were pretty tasteless. Also, Im not sure how I feel about the soft tortilla inside of the hard shell taco style. Im a soft-corn-tortilla kind of gal. My mom got the shrimp and avocado salad, which had a huge portion of shrimp on a bed of lettuce. It was just not really Mexican, but it was still good. We sat outside in the back, which was much nicer than being in the front on the sidewalk. Id go back to try something else if I were in the area, but I wouldnt try to go. Someone near me got a burrito and it was gigantic.

As I used to live in Montclair -- and now live in Clifton -- Ive been going to Tingas for years. The food is very good, price is fair and the service used to be very good. However, I will only do takeout now because the service has eroded over the past couple of years. Youll be lucky if you can get the kids that work there to get off their phones to seat you, serve you or process your payment. So overall, if youre looking for affordable, quality Mexican, then do takeout. But dont sit in because itll just make you mad.

Almost impossible to believe, but this restaurant serves Mexican food with no taste. The "salsa" appeared to be catsup with a few shreds of cilantro in it. The beans barely tasted like beans. The rice had no flavor. The cheese and mushroom quesadilla had no pepper, no onion, no garlic--it contained absolutely nothing but tasteless jack cheese and some chunks of nearly raw Portobello mushroom. To fill your belly fairly quickly with tasteless food, by all means eat here.

Tinga was disgusting-a. I got the steak tacos, which had pico de gallo, lettuce, cheese, steak wrapped inside a soft tortilla. The steak was tough and was pretty much was killed again because they cooked it way too much. My aunt got the shrimp tacos in which there was a soft shell on the outside and a hard shell on the outside. We observed that they should have inverted the tortillas. Everything was in take - out containers. Never coming back. Terrible food.

Quick, convenient, tasty, filling, need I say more? All the reviews bashing Tinga about not being "authentic" dont quite realize that Tex-Mex exists. A blend of Texan culture with Hispanic, creating out of the ordinary burritos, tacos, quesedillas, etc.. Its not your usual quote on quote "Mexican" restaurant, but by no means should this be negative. 5/5

This place is disgusting. Fake Mexican food. Servers are rude, food presentation horrible, Resturant in general was dirty. I dont recommend this place and I dont understand why this place is still open its a shame Montclair allows this type of Resturant it looks like fast food. I def threw up after I had dinner there. This place gets ZERO stars.

Really uninspired "Texmex", seasonings are plain. The size of the portion is big but that does not make up for the blandness. Worst of all, NOT very clean, and Ive eaten there many times over the years. Service is slow and surly, likely highschool kids at their first jobs. Way better Mexican options around...

Tinga used to be one of my favorite spots in Montclair - great atmosphere, food, and service. More recently, however, the food was lackluster and inauthentic. My server was also inattentive, despite it being such a small place. I feel that they have lost their touch, and hope they regain it in the future.

I go here at least twice a week, mostly for pick-up. They make the food really quickly. If you dine in, service is really fast. My favorites are the taco salad and the nachos grande, both of which my wife and I usually share. Prices are fair also. Highly recommended.

The food was delicious. you ask for a side of guacamole, and you get a huge bowl of it! There are no chipotle sized portions here! The bathrooms were clean and there was a sign letting you know to tell a manager of the bathroom needs attention. Its great there!

Its a small, quaint place that can make you feel claustrophobic really fast. Other than that, its a great place for take out. When ordering here, dont expect authentic Mexican food. Its very Americanized, but if thats your thing then this is a great place to go.

Okay non-authentic Mexican food. While the food is not the best, you certainly get a lot for your money. I probably wont be coming back to quell any Mexican food cravings but Ill certainly keep Tinga in mind if Im in the mood for a big meal on the cheap.

Just dont do it. Ordered and steak and shrimp burrito and it was mostly just guacamole and sour cream barley any rice and even less steak or shrimp. When the food arrived it was cold. Honestly not impressed pretty much disgusted with the service and food.

The only thing i enjoyed was the chips with salsa. The quesadilla was boring and tasteless and the burrito was huge, but messy and not that great. Cute place, but too small. Their lunch menu is very affordable and they give you a lot of food.
