Completely disappointed. We came there with high expectations after reading the reviews for this place however it was terrible. In no way was this an authentic mexican eatery. Once the lady said they didnt sell Jarritos (a popular mexican soda) we should have took that as our sign to go. It was Mexican going upscale gone wrong. Could find better food at your local hole in the wall burrito joint. Lured in from their guac in a rock we thought wed give it a try, terribly disappointed to find out that the "rock" was much more shallow than it seemed and for $13 it seemed as though we were paying for the rock not the guac. They had a vegan menu which seemed to have been raved about but we werent impressed. We ordered quesadillas which came in a set of three and they did not allow us to mix and match. Who knew it was physically possible to mess up something as simple as a quesadilla, it was NOT what we expected at all. My daughter ordered the chicken soup, and after telling my daughter to eat her soup i gave up because truthfully, i wouldnt want to eat that soup either. Couldnt help but notice the disappointed faces around us and the people who were perhaps too drunk to care. Id say the best part of our stay was the guy who made sure our water glasses were never empty. If theres one thing i left there feeling was hydrated. We will not be going there again.

Was here yesterday, Sunday 03/12/2017, and Alicia and the other waiters were very rude. If I had more names they would be put on this review as well. We were a party of 3 and after we had our lunch, the waitress Alicia brought the receipt and we paid. Before we left, I had to use the bathroom. I went to the bathroom, which had a line and took about 10 minutes before I returned to the table. When I got back to the table I was informed that our waitress, Alicia and another waiter had asked my girlfriend and friend to leave the table twice when I was in the bathroom. They had collected their tip money already and was rushing us out. If they would have done this before I signed the receipt I wouldnt have put a tip because they essentially kicked us out. I let the manager, who was wearing a pink shirt that day know and all he did was shrug and gave me an insincere "sorry." I wont be coming here again because of how rude the staff was to my party after they have collected their money.

Of the restaurants in the UWS, Café Frida is one I tend to always come back to when in the neighborhood. This upscale Mexican has a casual atmosphere and consistently put out great food and good service. Tonight, we ordered Guacamole(spicy) to start and a round of margaritas. I like the chunky style and while even though we ordered spicy it was still pretty mild. The margaritas while good is pretty light in the alcohol department. My friend did the Enchiladas Suizas(asked for vegan) and I tried the seafood special. Both came with a side of rice. The seafood special in a tomato base was flavorful and not over cooked. My friend liked his enchilada and even without the meat held its flavor. I certainly enjoy Café Frida and dining here but it does come at a cost. It isnt the cheapest of Mexican but if you stick with just one drink the dent in the wallet shouldnt be too bad.

Id walked by this place a million times on the UWS and never been in until I needed a Mexican restaurant that took reservations for a friends birthday, and Cafe Frida ended up being the perfect spot. For our group of 7, they put us upstairs in a cozy nook that ended up being slightly quieter/easier to talk, which is great, and the service was very good. We all got margaritas and various amounts of tacos - all the tacos we tried were great and good portions. Highly recommend doing tacos and mixing and matching types with a friend. They also remembered it was my friends birthday and brought out a sombrero, shot, and dessert for her (though we did have to pay for the dessert and request it ahead of time). Ill be back for sure! Glad to have a fun Mexican spot on the UWS with decent food, much better than overpriced Gabrielas about 10 blocks up Columbus.

Great, classic Mexican fare with a Latin fusion really hits the spot! I had the Ribeye special, and my lady had a mix of Pollo Ribil and carne asada tacos (5 come in the entree). My lady was a little let down at the fact that they didnt come with any sides. The decor at this place features Spanish style architecture with an old world Mexican feel. Dim lighting and eccentric decoration and a mixed crowd provides Cafe Frida with a nice, chill ambiance that can easily turn into a party with a spacious open bar in the middle of the dining area, serving up some delicious drinks (I had the special mezcal with spiced Tamarind, my lady had the special passion fruit margarita) makes it look like an old school Spanish courtyard! We had the flaming platano dessert drenched in chocolate and it was amazing! Must try in the UWS.

1. Walked in on a whim and was seated quickly. 2. family friendly and date night approved. 3. Waitress check on us at least four times with out being pushy and was super pleasent if not practically reading my mind. 4. Food was amazing! The mojito was just right, the guac was to die for and the mole that I ordered, was by far the best I have had on the east coast so far. Had a bite of the fish taco at it was light and tasty. Choose your salsa wisely. And the coconut flan I dont know if it was because I was tipsy but is sooooooo amazing. $50 per person if you trying to ball.

I ate here last night for the first time, although Id lived 3 blocks away for quite a while. The in-house made guacamole is phenomenal. I rarely spring for this luxury but I was going to an event at the Nat. History Museum and didnt want to order a full meal. We also shared the hibiscus margarita. To die for. Beware of the rim salt; it actually has spices all over as well so it will burn off your tongue! I was especially happy that the staff didnt make a fuss because we only shared one drink and the guac. Id definitely go back!

We arrived & were promptly seated. Drinks were delivered quickly as well. After that all went down hill. We were out of chips and needed drink refills with our server no where in sight. My husband got up from the table to get things moving only to discover they were being inspected by the health dept. My husband & I looked at each other wondering when they wouldve advised us as the inspection, according to them shuts them down for a couple of hours. Would they have left us waitkng?!? Adios!

It was simply, OK. I will say I ate about a dozen STALE CHIPS! Honestly, of the basket of tortilla chips we got, Id guess at least half of them were stale. My bf said he had gotten several stale chips too, so it wasnt all in my mind. The food was tasty, but portions were small and they didnt put any cheese on my tacos!!!??? Im sorry, but tacos should automatically come with a little sprinkle of cheese, at the least. The hostess didnt seem to be very concerned with customer service or speed.
