First off, if you want the best authentic Chinese food in this area, you should go to Orient Wok Express (and order off their authentic Chinese menu). If you want sit down Chinese food though, The Orient is a decent option. The Orient is a bit of a toss-up. Its the main token Chinese restaurant in town, and is generally pretty good --- except when its not. My mother got incredibly sick after eating here once (though Ive eaten here quite a bit with no incident). Its very typical American Chinese food, but its done pretty well. Theres a nice atmosphere, and lots of seating. If you want really good authentic Chinese food though, Id recommend going to Orient Wok Express.

I live in Thetford, but almost every time I pass through Hanover I will stop by the Orient for dinner. I love the flavor of their Tangerine Beef. If you prefer spicy dishes I recommend their Pork with Garlic Sauce from the authentic menu. Their waiters are always very polite and kind. Service is very good but sometimes a bit slow on weekends because they tend to be a lot busier on those days. Going out to eat at the Orient is something that my family enjoys very much. I recommend going for lunch, their lunch combo is not expensive at all, and has portions that are just the right size.

As a student at Dartmouth I would always go out to eat at the Orient. My favorite dish is the Beef with Broccoli, the broccoli is very fresh and delicious, and the beef is oh so tender! My favorite drink to have with friends is the Scorpion bowl! Lots of alcohol in it, and the fire on top is a nice touch. The Orient is also a very good place to have a party or a reunion. Their staff is always very friendly and polite. My one complaint, and my friends also agree with this is that their music is too slow. I prefer fast and lively music so I hope that they change it soon.

Ive lived in a lot of big cities where Chinese food was anywhere from really awful upwards to haute cuisine. For the Upper Valley The Orient offers very good food and is a great alternative to other dining options here. Great deals for lunch. Vegetables always very fresh. Yes, it could be less oily. Will try asking next time. Yes, they could be more friendly, although my waiter, John, has always been a darling. Favorites: spinach w tofu and black bean sauce, moshu pork, and ginger with string beans and shrimp.

Im not sure what these negative reviews are all about. For basic American-style Chinese food, this is the best Ive ever had. Of course its not a high-end "authentic" Chinese food place (whatever that is). But for less than $10, you get a lunch complete with soup, won-ton chips, and a generously-portioned meal. I ate here two days in a row and enjoyed it both times. Plus, the staff was very friendly.

The lunch special is good value. I like the twice sauteed pork and the dried tofu and pork with scallions. I dont typically order the lo-mein and fried rice because those dishes are not their forte. If you are from the suburbs or a large city and you are expecting PF Chang-style American Chinese food, then you will be sorely disappointed.

Showed up more than an hour late for lunch delivery, when they said it was going to take 20 mins. Didnt even apologize. I called two more times after placing the order to enquire about the status of the food, and was told that "the driver will be there soon". Not ordering from them again.

Lunch deals are outstanding value! Soup, main, and rice for around $7, and the food is great. Went with friends, and we shared our mains, which were all very tasty. While the service wasnt gushy, they werent rude, they brought the food quickly, and topped-up our water regularly.

Everything was wrong and NOT WORTH EATING... They messed up my order, the chicken was so old and dry that it couldnt be eaten. The fried rice had large pieces of egg shells. All of it when right into the garbage, will NEVER go back!!!!

There are Chinese restaurants everywhere, but most of them are locally adapted. This is the only authentic Chinese food I have found in New Hampshire. Double sautéed pork, fish fillet in hot chili oil and steamed fish are my favorites.

I wish I could like the food, as its the only chinese place in town. But, every time I order from there, I regret it----its just too greasy, even the vegetables. Their scorpion bowls are fun, though.

The lunch specials are superb! We came to Hanover after three decades in NYC...Orient was better Chinese food than what we left behind in Manhattan...
