I have been going to this restraunt since I was a child. I love this restraunt. Not one single time have I ever had a bad meal. The food has been consistently great. That is saying a lot considering the restraunt has undergone a couple of ownership changes. The chef is a star in my book. For a long time a set of credentials would hang in the lobby proving the chefs culinary training. Im not sure if the credentials are still there but it doesnt matter, the food is fantastic. There is a great sense of range of tastes. The sauces range from spicy, sweet, chicken-based, beefy-savory, garlicky, etc... It is one of only two chinese restraunts that I know in which the finished product tastes like the description on the menu. Are you tired of other places that promise Hunan Beef, Schezuan Beef, and Kung-Pao Beef only to realize it is the SAME. EXACT. DISH.? New Peking does not do this. Each dish is unique and the flavors are always balanced. The first bite always communicates a delicious complexity; each bite showcases the cooks mastery of his trade. I cannot overstate how fond I am of the food. The prices are still reasonable, but more importantly, the meals are ALWAYS satisfying. Tips. Try the Sizzling Rice Soup, the Egg Drop Soup, the Spicy Combination Fried Rice, the Steamed Dumplings, Shrimp with Asparagus, Jumbo - Peking Shrimp, Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, and the greatest value of them all, the Spicy Peking Chow Mein - a dish that says everything you need to know about New Peking. Fresh, Flavorful, and Satisfying. (You can always request how spicy you want the dish prepared - they are super friendly). I tell everyone I know because I realize that this place is a gem to Kansas City. I hope the place remains around forever.

I wish I could give this zero stars. I went online to order from this restaurant, and the link at the bottom of the home page directed me to a menu and site to place my order and enter my card information. I ordered, and an hour late, nothing. So I called the restaurant. The man who answered the phone informed me they did not deliver, nor did they accept online orders. When I informed him that his website links to a place to order online and enter my card info in, he told me I was wrong and was very combative with me. The link does exist on the website (see photo), and should be taken down to avoid other such issues. Because of this, I had to cancel my credit card. This is beyond ridiculous. It doesnt matter if their food is good or not, I will never go here, and I will be sure to tell my friends and coworkers about this ordeal, as well.

The small old lady in charge was too busy to greet my party and seat us with menus so we did it ourselves . Building smells like mold . After 5 minutes of just sitting there lost , she comes out and doesnt say hi or introduce herself , instead she slams her writing pad down , rudely asks is for our order , rushing us (our first time in). She then brings up the bill and says $24 , can you afford this . Long story short Westport has a lot of homeless blacks and after 30 years of business , shes ran into a lot of issues but NEVER in all my life have I been treated so shittily as a customer . She didnt receive a tip and I will never return . She was racist and judge mental and all I wanted was food . Food was good though , but its not worth being over priced and embarrassed the way the OWNER treated me .

I am Chinese and there are only a few Chinese Restaurants that serve "Authentic" food. This is one of them. You have to ask for the "Authentic" menu or you will get the normal white guy menu. This is one of my favorite places and I unfortunately live too far away or I would patronize it more often. They also offer "hot pot" now! Excellent place! The other "Authentic" Chinese Restaurants in town are Lucky Wok at 87th and Lackman, Pine & Bamboo on Shawnee Mission Parkway (they have Dim Sum on Saturday and Sunday for brunch), Szechuan House at 39th Street near KU MED and Bo Lings on the Plaza (most expensive and also has Dim Sum on Saturday and Sunday brunch). All of these places you have to ask for the "Authentic" menu or they will give you the regular white guy menu.

Amazing food! Not being from the area and just exploring a new area of town, my family and I went in not knowing what to expect and found friendly staff and delicious food. Restaurant is not the newest but the food overpowers any updates that could be used. All 3 of my picky little eaters loved their meal and my husband and I enjoyed the Terriaki Chicken and General Tso Chicken. Egg drop soup was different from any where else we had tried it and really liked the added ingredients, not your average egg drop soup and so much better! Will make another trip there for sure!

I ordered Peking Chicken, chicken was very dry and hard. The coating on it was mushy and shouldve been crispy. They gave me lots of meat but most pieces looked really scary, shaped very strangely. The sweet and sour sauce & the hot mustard sauce sits on the table continuously and who knows what other customers may have put in them and everyone uses the same spoon all day/night to dish these toppings out on the food. Rice was not fresh either, it had been sitting too long. Not fresh. They do give a lot on their portions is the only positive comment I have.

Have ordered takeout from here a few times, and always wonder why we dont do so more often. The food is always ready when they say it will be and is hot and fresh. The portion sizes are ridiculous (at least 2 meals worth), with tons of meat and fresh veggies. The staff re-affirm my order via phone and before leaving to ensure Im heading home with the right food. Have never dealt with a staff member who wasnt kind and accommodating. A quality place for a solid meal- youll get your moneys worth.

I have been coming here for almost 20 years now. I loved it then and I sure do love it now. The food is always so dang good. I would go here 2-3 times a week if it didnt have any effect on my waste line haha. From Crab rangoon to sesame chicken to bong bong chicken, it is all so delicious. The staff is so friendly and always recommends new things. If you are in the area, please go to New Peking, you will not regret it!!

I went to this restaurant based on the reviews below. I dont think Ive ever had such a different experience from the listed reviews. It was the kind of inauthentic chinese food that you would probably expect when you go, but for about double what you would expect to pay. Also: I swear that egg role was the same kind I buy at sunfresh. At least you put it in the oven though, I just use the microwave.
