Went in for a quick lunch. When I first walked in, I wasnt sure I was in the right place. However I navigated through a small hallway and made my way to a 2nd door. The location combined with the decorations made it seem almost as though I was on an adventure. Upon reaching my destination I was instantly confronted by a small Asian lady appearing from the back as if I were of dire importance. I began my order. Ordering was quick and easy, menus were accessible on the counter. I scanned quickly and ordered the sweet and sour chicken. We exchanged a few words had a few laughs then poof she was gone. I took a seat in the waiting area and glanced over all of the arcticles posted about Peking on the wall. To my surprise there have been several movies filmed in the restaurant, this only made me more eccstatic about receiving my order. It wasnt very long before I was greeted again by the same lady, she handed me my food, we said our "welcomes" "thank you", and I was off. I thought to myself my lunch adventure has ended, but when I opened the white lunch box I realized I was mearely beginning. There were large chicken portions doused in sweet n sour sauce accompanied by sliced onions & bell peppers, a ball of seasoned fried rice, and majestically fried ragoons. It was though my tastebuds went on a journey and still have yet to return. What a glorious lunch. I will be returning to this food establishment as well as encouraging others to partake in the adventure as well.

I am really surprised by these reviews. We must have gone at an awful time, because we had a horrible experience!! First off, you have to spend $5 per person to dine in. When my fiance and I ordered it was over $10, but she snapped at us saying we were not supposed to share meals. But "it was okay since it was our first time there" (whenever we get chinese, we always share chicken fried rice and crab rangoon). Secondly, we were the only people there, (not a big deal) but there was no music at all. The place was silent and incredibly awkward. The waitress was consistently rude, and huffed and puffed when my fiance asked for a glass of ice for his pop, (or anything else for that matter!) We continually said "please and thank you" despite her attitude, and she had no manners to reply with "youre welcome" once. The worst part of it was she literally sat in the corner and kept looking at us, and the second we were done eating she came to our table and took our plates while asking "all done?" Basically we were rushed out of there. She also overcharged us by about $3, but we were more concerned with getting the heck out. I would consider going back, but only to order take out. The food was okay, but we had no leftovers, and I could of had a bit more (We always have leftovers from any Chinese place). So unless you want a rude waitress to sit in a corner and give you creepy stares, stay away from dining in at this restaurant!

This restaurant is a gem. A true treasure of Kansas City. Ive been coming here for the best Chinese food Ive ever had for over a year, and Ive loved every experience. I do mean experience! Here are the hard facts about this establishment. 1. The food is the best Chinese food you will ever taste. Everything is fresh and created with skill and care. The flavor blends amazingly, the food is fulfilling and unlike the deep fried Chinese food I grew up on - you are full and dont feel gross afterwords. 2. The vibe is straight out of a Wes Anderson film. Everything is adorable and the vibes are amazing. A little dated, but that makes the place charming. It is exceptionally clean and well maintained. 3. The only bad review you will read is about the service. To that I say "Get real". There is a slight language barrier, but the owners are fantastic, kind people. Any confusion should be overshadowed by their exceptional service, outstanding value of food, perfect taste and the awesomeness of this place. I would venture to say that anyone who has had a bad experience here probably has a bad experience most places they go. Kindness needs to be given to be received. This is an amazing and original experience from start to finish. Come for exceptional Chinese food, enjoy the atmosphere/owners and fall in love with Peeking House! Best ever!!! I wish I could give more stars!

The food is not bad, but the service with a smile is non existent. Ive ordered from them a number of times over the past year because I liked their lo mein, but have ran into too much attitude lately and can no longer recommend them, I ordered a lunch special to go once; which comes with a soup and an egg roll. After delivery person left, I noticed that the lunch special was not special at all - no soup, no egg roll. I called back and the lady was sooooo rude. She asked if I mentioned what kind of soup i wanted. I wasnt sure, but told her that it is their responsibility to ask ME what kind of soup and not assume that I would pay for a lunch special and be ok with not receiveing the egg roll nor the soup. I just dont give away money, lady. I asked if shed come back with what I ordered. Then the rudeness continued as she blamed me for the mess up. Sorry lady its on you to ask what kind of soup Id like and not withhold parts of the meal I paid for. This was the last straw. If you want decent chinese food with a whole lot of attitude then this is the place for you. But for me, I have power in where I spend my money and Im not going to finance another lexxus (sits outside restaurant) for you when you are nothing but rude to your customers.

After seeing the reviews, my girlfriend and I decided to try this place out. The place was a little to small. The flowers vase on the table inside was very dusty. The soy sauce container seemed as if it hadnt been washed beacuse it had a ring of hard soy sauce in the inside. The decor was alright, the pictures on the walls were actually calenders that were tapped down. The waitress was awkard, she contiuned to rush people to order and leave. We couldnt spend time and really enjoy our meal. It was hard because she couldnt speak English well. When we sat down, she gave us the utensils that were on another table and slammed them down on our table, and the spoon she gave me wasnt really clean. The food was alright. The crab ragoon had mozzarella cheese in it, very different, but not good different. They love onions because they had them on everything. The hot mustard sauce and sweet and sour sauce were not properly coverage, since they were covered by a red napkin on the back table. I did like that they had canned pop inside of a fountain, and the shrimp were great. I liked that I didnt spend that much either. I may go back there in the future.

I have given this place 2 chances because I live near by. The service is probably the worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. The owner/waitress/hostess is incredibly rude and confuses herself and the customer. Expect the restaurant to be completely empty and dead silent. Odd, awkward atmosphere when trying to get an order placed correctly. First time I ended up taking the food with me because it took so long to get and it ended up in the trash because it was not appealing. Second time, all we wanted was hot and sour soup. Sit down. Order the soup and she is hounding us to order an entree. We say we are unsure and to come back. I go to use the restroom. Come back try to explain we didnt want entrees. Apparently that isnt an option. So she takes my card to pay. Comes back and she charged me to use the restroom and said we had to spend more money in order to get any food... yet she can charge us to sit down, waste our time and use the restroom? Expect to pay extra for every little thing. I dont think tap water is free. Pretty sure you get charged for a napkin lol. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME.
