I enjoyed my brunch at Hen House very much! A local friend suggested we try it and I was pleased with our visit! The restaurant had the feel of a chic diner. A very hipster breaskfast place by the looks of the employees and cliantele. There was an extensive drink menu, all of which looked delicious. However, I was there to battle a hangover and am not much of a hair of the dog person, so I settled for coffee. The coffee was good, but all they had on the table was regular granulated sugar. I could have asked for Stevia or artifical sweeteners, but I didnt. Im not sure if they had alternative sweeteners or not. I liked the different twists they had on traditional breakfasts. I ordered Californian Eggs Benedict, which featured guacamole, tomatoes, and bacon. It was delicious and a TON of food! It could have easily been shared between two people. My husbands meal and friends omelette also could have fed two people each. We all had hash browns with our meals that were crunchy and delicious! We ended up just lingering a while and finishing most of our meals until we just couldnt eat anymore. My husband also ordered a cinnamon roll which was warmed before it was brought to him. Sensational! Warm and gooey! One of the best cinnamon rolls Ive ever had! My one and only complaint was that there were egg shells in my meal. Not much, but I definitely noticed. Mistakes happen, but itserved unsettling to take a bite of a delicious breakfast and crunch down on egg shell. Thats the only reason I rate them 4 stars. That being said, I wouldnt happily return and give them another shot next time wereally in town. Great food and exceptional service!

I usually love breakfast for lunch, so I chose to go to this new restaurant to celebrate my birthday with a friend. Big disappointment. Overall, I have to say Ive never been to a "diner" that takes reservations, and it shouldnt have taken an hour and a half to get a grilled ham and cheese and an omelette. Hell, Perkins can whip those out in 10 minutes or less! When we first walked in, the waiting area (which is the main route to/from the kitchen) was full and no one was at the hostess stand. When someone finally showed up, we were told it may be a 10 minute wait. It ended up being 20. As we were walking to our table in the back, we noticed half of the tables had "reserved" signs on them. Im not sure who they were reserved for, since no one was ever seated at any of the tables in the hour and a half we were there. It then took another 5 minutes for someone to come to our table. We ordered right away to avoid further delay. I ordered a drink from the bar (bloody mary), which came in pretty short order but was watered down and tasteless. My lunch guest, however, sat without even a glass of water for another 5-10 minutes - until I could flag our waitress down to get her drink. Why was her soda or at least a glass of water not brought out with my drink? I was hoping the food would make up for the painfully slow service. Again, I was disappointed. I ordered the Fat Hen Omelette which is supposed to have goat cheese in it. They mustve forgotten to milk the goat - there was no cheese whatsoever in it. My friends grilled ham and cheese was cold when delivered and bland as well. Dont waste your time or money.

I went there in the late morning and the restaurant wasnt even a quarter full. I waited for twenty minutes and left. The atmosphere was quiet with eighties music and everyone was at the bar. I sat in a booth by myself and didnt even receive a menu, so I left. Whats more, the greeters at the door said something very nice as I left, but apparently didnt know that I wasnt served. Blah, what the hell? I guess I see everyone here likes the caramel rolls, apparently they are delicious, but since I never even got to see a menu, I cant even guess what the price was. Funny thing is the numerous people passed by and noticed me at my table but never said anything. Lack of communication. I called later this day and told them how I was not served. They were obviously sorry and asked what I meant. He then asked if I "left," why of course. I was put on hold for a few minutes and then told that there were no managers available. Seriously, what do they even do there. I cant even imagine the incompetence. Im waiting for the manager to call back right now. Apparently they got busy in the twenty minutes since I left. Oh well. If they dont comp me for anything, I will never go there again seeing as how I had to sit there like an idiot and wait for nothing to happen. Really?

So I have been to the Hen House Eatery a few times and I guess I usually am disappointed in one way, shape, or form or another. The wild rice soup is icky and it has almonds in it....who does that? It doesnt really make sense. The French dip sliders are more expensive than a regular French dip and they have less meat and cheese. The gluten free pumpkin bar was no good at all - I personally dont need gluten free but it was all they had and I bought it for my husband and it didnt taste like a pumpkin bar at all...maybe a squash or carrot bar but that would still disgrace any carrot dessert. My kids wouldn’t even eat it. I also usually end up feeling sick later on in the evening after eating at this place. So I guess I would say it isnt worth the hype. Their other bars are great though. Everything else is just meh, but yeah dont do the wild rice soup....that is just a bad choice. I have had the nachos too and they have a weird spice dusting on the chips that just conflicts with anything amazing having to do with nachos. More misses than hits.

Had a rare chance to be downtown early with my partner this morning and she decided we should start TGIF with breakfast before work. We really enjoy going out to breakfast and have our favorite spots but decided to try something new by going to the Hen House. BIG MISTAKE! There were only one or two tables of customers because it was before 7 a.m. but we ended up having to call over a server 20 minutes later because hed not returned to take our order. We split a short stack with two eggs and bacon. The bacon was delicious but everything arrived barely warm. I really dont know how you do that except that the service, apparently, was again very slow to get it from the nearby kitchen to our table. To make matters worse, the eggs were rubbery and the pancakes really not very good. Overpriced compared to the competition and not nearly as good. Well never be back.
