Oh man, Check it. I was at this fine establishment on our oddly sunny October Saturday, the 10th. We were on some good vibes from nostalgia and the small town charm and looked forward to a good sit-down mea, so to speak.. To be clear, Its not your establishment I have problems with. We had great seating. Service was quick, quirky even. I forgot the name of our server but, shes the one with all the pens. We gorged ourselves with a shared appetizer, then Burgers and Pizza respectively. Now, heres the twist: The cool quirky waitress bills us, as she had to open the following Sunday. We understood, ordered a last round of wine to just sip on slowly. Our bills are split, we wish her goodnight and sweet dreams. Not long afterwards, a pretty black lady pulls up a chair beside us. we presume to join in on our wine ramblings. Then, you see, she puts up her feet by me, squares her sights with mine, and speaks (quoted non-verbatim) Pretty Black Lady: I feel like I need to rant with you... Me: Alright Pretty Black Lady: On the account of us both being Black.. Collective: Okay... Pretty Black Lady: You see Im a server here... Collective: Alright... Pretty Black Lady: And Im also a manager here... Me: Oh! cool, double duty. Pretty Black Lady: Because I like money... Collective: Hahaha Pretty Black Lady: So I need to check and see if something was wrong... Me: Nothing was wrong, Its a good night. Were very satisfied. Pretty Black Lady: Because I feel like a $2 tip on a $68 bill, is too small Collective: [gasp] What?! Are you serious right now? She then goes on about gratuity and percentages and asks why I did what i did. Me: 1. Im being budget conscious. Theres a certain cap I have in mind and i intend to stay under it. 2. Im a foreigner, we dont believe in that concept. I just write $2 because I find it easier to part on that than $5. Pretty Black Lady: Okay, so youre a foreigner, you dont know any better. But I feel like tipping nothing at all, us better than what you tipped. Me: No, its not that I dont know any better, Its that I dont believe in the concept. [...] Pretty Black Lady: so there was nothing wrong... Me: No Pretty Black Lady: Alright, yall have a good night. The ladies: I cant believe that just happened [...] that just made me never want to eat here again. And thats what makes me sad, because your food was great, your wine was chilled just right. But I have to ask, what was she thinking? I get that Im a bad tipper, but the popular way of dealing with that these days is scanning my receipt and plastering it all over social media. Like a dedicated subreddit, facebook, It might even end up on Buzzfeed. Cause i gotta tell you, Ive been here $15 years now and not once, Not Once, has this happened to me or anyone I know. Not even the ones who were born here and just hate tipping. If you want to lose me as a customer, fine I guess. Send me a scathing eMail or do the Buzzfeed thing. But the ladies tipped handsomely, they didnt need that in their night. So If you tip low percentage, Pretty Black Lady might (proverbially) chew you. If you have no qualms with dashing $10 on your $68 bill, I actually recommend this place. Side note: I had the Red Wine Burger. Great concept. My only complaint being that the aftertaste is a bit sickly sweet. I had to douse it in tobasco to make it more palatable.. Also, Tachos. I dont much care for tater-tots or Nachos but Apparently, I love the two together.

Cute atmosphere but disappointing experience.... I have been a server so I am generally understanding when not everything rubs smoothly, but based on my experience and reading other reviews it seems like there systematic problems driving the issues: 1. Quantity if staff - we were given a wait of 20 minutes for a Saturday lunch in a half full restaurant so we waited at the bar. I get it, maybe someone didnt show up for a shift. However, efforts at ordering from the bar were fruitless and we were never served there. By the time I actually got a drink we were at the table and had been in the restaurant for over 45 minutes. 2. Dealing with mistakes - I ordered a burger and paid extra for tater tots. She repeated the order back to me, but it showed up with fries. Again, understandable. However, instead of just bringing the tater tots they took my entire plate away to "replate" it correctly.... Having worked in many restaurants I think this is bizarre. Nothing about the experience had been fast to begin with and now food had been taken away from in front of me and delivered back (more than five min probably less than 10) lukewarm at best. Plus this was done by someone who appeared to be a manager. If they want to make it in the food service business I think they need to reevaluate the customer experience.

Went here last night with 5 other people, we all agreed that the service was complete crap. Our servers name was Megan L. Probably the worst service Ive ever had, for sure in the bottom 5. It started out okay, she didnt seem happy to be at work when she greeted us at our table, but hey that OK, I understand its 80 degrees out and you dont wanna be couped up inside. We ordered some appetizers, someone else brought them out for her, then she didnt stop back for at least 15 minutes. We had all been done with the appetizers and our drinks were empty for a good while. Then she finally came over after we had asked other people to find her. Took our order, someone else brought it out, and our drinks were empty again. She got a small tip because she did a terrible job. Ive been to this place twice before for their monday burger specials, and it was good each time. I dont think I will be going back here again, I can find a place to spend my money with just as good food but much much better service.

Pub 819 is a new establishment in town. The atmosphere of the pub is fresh, modern, and clean with a great balance of space and TVs available to watch sports. It is a classier bar with prices that are a bit higher than others in the area, but the experience is worth the price. The selections of drinks was really good - I had an Old Fashioned and then a whiskey on the rocks. The staff was very friendly and always made sure we did not have empty drinks. I also like that if you sit at the bar that you have a running tab. After you order, the bartender places a ticket in a cup in front of you. If you decide to get another drink, he or she will add it to the slip. No pressure to pay right away or hand over a card. Tip: Try something new here. They have a huge selections of unique cocktails, a great selection of whiskey, and a wide selection of beer. Pub 819 was great and I cannot wait to go back and try their food.

So I must admit that I wanted to hate this place, as I really liked the Hopkins Tavern. I have to say, the food was decent and the Bloody Mary was the best Ive ever had - and Ive had quite a few. I got the one made with whiskey and beer. It really was excellent. For food, my girlfriend and I split the doughnut sandwich and the eggs Benedict. Both were pretty good. The doughnut sandwich is really heavy and probably exactly what you picture. I would have left more stars, but they failed at 4 small things: 1. They use generic ketchup 2. The only give you one half of an eggs Benedict, for the price of a full one. 3. They charge you $1 for a beer back with the bloody, when this is normally free in Minnesota bars 4. They got rid of the paddle wheel Again, these things are minor...but its also things like this that restaurants skimp on that annoy people and will make them not want to come back.
