Avani Saklecha...take a chill pill! Ive been eating here for close to 30 years. Awesome service, delicious food, and the staff is just outstanding. Waaaah, you didnt want water in your ice? get real! Waaaah, she put the check on the table. Puhlease! These people deal with a very busy lunch rush and they are fast and efficient and realize that the VAST MAJORITY of people DO drink water with ice and DO want their check so that they can get back to work. First Wok is FANTASTIC. YOU DONT DESERVE TO EAT HERE. Go away! I try to deviate but I always go back to my absolute fave meal which is the Chicken in Hot Garlic sauce. I get it with steamed rice, and the EXCEPTIONAL Hot & Sour soup. The egg rolls are also very good. My friends that join me here on occasion love the Almond Chicken, the Chicken with Green Beans, the Chicken Chow Mein and the WonTon soup. My kiddos and my hubby love the Beef with Broccoli. My water glass is never empty and I always feel very welcome and appreciated each time I visit.

I would love to have rated 1st Wok higher, but I have to take into account that I am sadly closer to the Bloomington location, which in my opinion offers a far lesser positive experience than the Lake Calhoun location will offer you. These restaurants are under similar ownership, but differ greatly. Bloomington - I recently ordered the triple meat combo with vegatables, fried rice, an egg roll, and a cup of hot and sour soup. The soup was good. The fried rice rice was white rice with a pea in it, and the egg roll was under cooked inside and not good at all. The meal was hot and acceptable. The decor could use a good steam cleaning though. And the wait staff was persistently awkward, but I have had worse experiences. Minneapolis - Never fails to satisfy. Great food. Strongly recommend the hot and sour soup, egg rolls, and combo options. You can leave for less than $10 for lunch, and it is best when it is not packed. Great deal and great food!

With all of the good reviews that First Wok has gotten I had really high hopes for the place, and perhaps that is ultimately why I felt so let down by the food. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, the Kung Pao Chicken is deep fried. This alone wouldnt be so bad (though odd), but ours was soggy, like the cook didnt have the oil hot enough in the wok. The chicken chow mein was equally mushy and was extremely bland (not the "Minnesota Mushy" style though, so dont expect that!). The egg rolls were ok, but Ive had better elsewhere as well. Out of all the food, the fried rice was probably the best, but again Ive had better (heck I make better at home). Ultimately with so many good Asian restaurants in the Twin Cities I have a really hard time recommending First Wok. Head to the UofM campus and there are many better choices with equally cheap prices.

My wife and I went here last night for the first time in quite a while as we live almost 45 minutes away. While the building is not the newest, it is more than made up for by everything else! 1) My Coke was only $1 and they brought out a pouring device with several servings in it so I could have it constantly refilled. 2) Our food came out very hot and fast. 3) The portions where very large for the cheap price and was very enjoyable. 4) They offer free refills of the fried rice and even offered us if we wanted a refills of it to take home with our other leftovers! First Wok was absolutely fantastic and we will gladly continue to go back!

This bad review is not because of bad food, quite the contrary. We have been coming here for 20+ gears have had many special family events here also. Our service is always excellent. The problem is very dimished serving size, significant increase in price and some service policy changes that are not explained or anywhere in the menu. A simple ,we appreciate the $2000.00 a year you spend in here is not asking for much either. So 20+ years of business does not even get you a " beg we charge extra for rice now" we have to be surprised when if shows up on the never legible hand written ticket. Very disappointed.

I have been going to this restaurant since it opened. Whenever I visit this restaurant, I am always greeted warmly by the employees. They always make sure to visit with my family. The food is awesome. I recommend the kung poa chicken, hunan shrimp, and beef lo mein. I also LOVE their hot and sour soup. It is honestly the best I have ever had. I highly recommend it! I also like their sesame beef. Delicious! Make sure to say hi to the owner Philip. He is an incredibly nice man. His children often help out at the restaurant and they are wonderful individuals too. Do not miss out on this place. It rocks!

Big no for vegetarians Went here for Sunday dinner. Quiet and sophisticated place. Its more a family restaurant. When entered to the restaurant, there was one lady on the counter she immediately took us to the table. However, without asking the preference she served us water with ice(which is a big no for my husband and me). There are only 3-4 vegetarian options. Even in fried rice, they have egg (bummer). We ordered Vegetable Lo Main with steam rice. The taste was average. On the top of that, we were eating and the waitress put the check on the table, that is so rude. Never visit again.

Ive been going here for as long as it has been open and generally I like everything except the lomein (with spaghetti noodles). Typically the service and food are outstanding. That said, I was there yesterday and our party was four adults and a preschooler (who ate from our orders). When the check came, there was an 18% (using the food total + tax) service charge added to the bill. I was told by the waitress that they do this with parties of 5 or more. Nowhere on the menu did it mention this policy. It left a "bad taste in my mouth."

Over the years our family has come to love this little restaurant. The food is nice but the staff is even nicer. The environment has always warm and family friendly. We all enjoy the Hunan platter and the won ton soup has saved our kids multiple times when it comes to braces. Theyve hosted multiple parties for are family (which averages to about 30 people) and we have always left very satisfied. Never once have we had to complain nor would we want to. 1st wok is a "must try" resturant that deserves the spot on the top of your list.

Ive been going to First Wok for close to 20 years now. The staff is friendly, and they are open fairly late. The hot and sour soup is excellent, and Im fond of the fried dumplings - Im sure the steamed dumplings are good too, but I like them fried. My usual meal is the orange beef, its the best I have had. My wife enjoys the sesame shrimp. Its coated in a light breading, and the sauce is served on the side, so the shrimp doesnt get soggy. Other items are good, but in my opinion, these are the ones that stand out.
