The first Brew Pub of Kalamazoo has been around for 20 years. Me and about 15 friends had lunch there after Kalamazoos Do Dah parade. Because of the size of our group, the manager gave us free appetizers of Brewpub Dip - the House Specialty which is unique combination of artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes and Asiago cheese. Served with our homemade tortilla chips and slices of pita bread. YUMMY! I ordered the ($16.99) New York Strip A 10 oz. hand cut and seasoned NY strip steak charbroiled to medium. Served with mash potatoes and chicken rice soup. The soup came out first and was delicious. It was a cup of soup but the small size fooled me. It was very tasty and had big chunks of chicken throughout. Then out came the New York Strip. This is the best steak I have had in about 10 years. It was cooked to perfection. They left some of the fat on it but had rendered it in such a way it has a slight crunch but melted in my mouth. To drink I had the Red Razberry 5.50% ABV Sunset Red & Razberry Wheat. I am not a beer guy but this beer was very good!! I wouldve ordered another but I had to drive. If you go ask for Sam. She is a great waitress and fun! She was very attentive to our whole group. Sam was the one that recommended the Razberry beer. All the staff that I dealt with was very courteous and friendly. If you go, you will not be disappointed!!

I do not rush to write a bad review on anyone but felt the need to share. I have gone here 3 times, each time hoping that my bad food and poor service were a fluke. During a lunch outing I ordered the fish taco. I could not believe an upstanding downtown restaurant would find it acceptable to serve. It looked to be a frozen fish stick and a slop of cole slaw from a tub laid out on a huge tortilla shell. I was not able to address it with the waitress since she didnt return until she brought our check. I ate it because I was hungry and out of time. My next experience was simply in for their delicious beer. We were not sitting at the bar but next to it. I waited and watched the bar tender not get our drinks for 15 minutes. once he poured them, they sat waiting for the waitress to deliver. I ended up leaving before they were served. My last experience was a bit better with the food, I really enjoyed the pub dip however my beer was served room temperature, as most people do prefer ice cold beer. I dont have the time, energy or extra money to waste on trying again.

So last night I went to #oldepeninslulagrill in kalamazoo and ordered a appetizer sampler. My friend wants onion rings, i want zucchini fries, its $5 cheaper to get the sampler vs separate appetizers. She brings out the dish with french fries on it....ok well we ordered this for the onion rings soooo she says yeah where out of onion rings I probably should have told you that when you ordered. Can I get you something else instead.....so I ask my friend what else do you want.....ok some more zucchini fries.......she comes back to the table with an empty plate and states that she needs to take the french fries back to the kitchen if I want to substitute them for something else....oh no we wont serve them......I just can let you have both.....I am amazed

My wife and I got away from our adorable 5 month old daughter in a rare sojourn to the city in anticipation of a dinner date all to ourselves. Old Peninsula was such a disappointment that I write this honest review while still seated here. Our Entrees arrived before our appetizer, the mashed potatoes we both ordered would have been tastier from a Hungryman meal. My salad did not come till I asked for it the first time our server returned halfway through the meal with our appetizer, she came back with my fruit fly laden salad and failed to refill our water. The appetizer was supposed to be boneless wings with a side of BBQ and a side of blue cheese. Fail. We paid $45 for our meal with one glass of water and a large serving of disgust.

Man, is it hard to hear anything in this place! My boyfriend warned me and visiting family to not go here, wish we had heeded his advice. Service was slow, building has terrible acoustics - I couldnt hear my sister sitting right next to me and the waiter misheard my order, so if thats not a red flag you have a sound issue, I dont know what is. After we finished our meals, the waiter walked by us about 6 times before dropping the check, and another 6 before picking it up again. The food is your standard pub fare, greasy and nothing to write home about. If youre looking for local brews, you have a lot of much better options within walking distance.

Let me start by saying this place use to be good back when I was in college. I hadnt been in a while thought I stop by to eat worst choice ever. The quality had went down soo bad they use to make bread bowls they no longer do. The cheddar soup use to be good this time very watery and runny. My burger was undercooked and not topped well. My fries were room temp with my burger. I took that back and ordered a cornbeef sandwich that was the worst choice that sandwich was soo tough and with random cuts of meat. Just horrible. Ill never be back again sucks they gave up on quality food one.

My favorite go to dining option in all of Kalamazoo. Its got a variety of dishes that studies many different tastes, and the fact that the beer (which is delicious in its own right) is used in many of the recipes is just really cool. Cheddar ale soup is really popular with my friend group while I loved (wasnt in the menu last time I went) the burrito with Amber ale. I wouldnt say its super baby/kid friendly, but weve eaten there with little to no issue with children before. Timing matters though--I wouldnt suggest taking your kids to any bar during busy hours.

The atmosphere and drinks here are very good. The service is off and on. But the food (other than the cheese fries) is usually unremarkable to not-so-good. Once I sent rice back twice because it was crunchy in the middle. (The server said it came pre-cooked in packages like that. Maybe just get a rice cooker if youre going to offer a special that contains rice.) I finally settled on always ordering the Brewmasters Favorite club sandwich, but now that theyve removed that and the (always the best in town) cheese fries, I have trouble finding a reason to eat here.

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Kalamazoo. The food has gone down hill in the last few years. The cheese fries used to be loaded with cheddar cheese and bacon, with a good amount of sour cream. To our disappointment the cheddar cheese had been replaced with cheap cheese sauce out of a can, a much smaller amount of bacon and no sour cream. The fish tacos were terrible. Our server was very friendly and did a great job, but with as many great restaurants in Kalamazoo it will be a long while before we will be back.
