Buddies has been on the short list of places to try near our house for some time. Why we never got there is a mystery, but we finally hit it up for lunch. Even the day we went, it was second choice. I had heard about a deli inside a hardware store on Aurelius Road and that’s why we went looking for. We found Big T’s Extreme Deli inside Brower’s Hardware, but there was a closed sign on the counter, so we were forced to find something else. We had just drove by Buddies and my girlfriend suggested we turn around and head back there. Buddies is located in a strip mall at the corner of Holt Rd. and Aurelius Rd. It’s a huge space with a nice big outdoor patio. The heat index was up over 90 degrees the day we stopped in, so we passed on the outdoors thing. The inside is seperated into two rooms. The main bar area with a variety of pub tables and regular tables scattered around the bar and then there’s another non-smoking room off to the left. We took a table in the non-smoking section. Our waitress came over for drink orders as we looked over the menu and it’s a pretty big menu. By the time she came back with our Pepsi, we still weren’t quite ready, so she gave us a few more minutes. I went simple and predictable again with the Black-n-Bleu Bacon Cheeseburger. With the sandwich you get your choice of chips or fries and I chose fries. The sandwich was cooked perfectly medium with just a hint of pink in the middle. The bacon wasn’t the usual strips, but instead chunks of bacon which made eating it easier. You didn’t have to fight through bacon which tends to be tough on burgers. I could see the bleu cheese, but the taste was very faint. I could tell it was there, but I really like the taste of bleu cheese to almost be overpowering. The sandwich was good even without the strong taste of cheese. The fries were fresh cut and cooked to a perfect golden brown. My girlfriend doesn’t usually like fresh cut fries because they don’t crisp up as well. She called these fries the best we’ve had in Lansing. They were simply seasoned with just a little bit of salt and each of our baskets came piled with them. There was no reason either of us should have left hungry. My girlfriend ordered the Fritter Wrap. I’m going from memory here since there isn’t a menu on-line that lists this option, but it’s crispy chicken strips wrapped in a jalapeno tortilla with three cheeses, lettuce, and tomato (there may have been more on it, but I don’t remember). She really liked the jalapeno tortilla. Every now and then she would really get a bite of the heat, but it wasn’t every bite, so her mouth wasn’t constatnly on fire. Our meal was just over $20 and I think we both left happy. If I had a complaint it would be that our drinks never got refilled. The waitress came by two or three times but never offered another drink until she dropped off the check. By then, I was done with my meal and didn’t want to drink another Pepsi, so I passed. Buddies is not only a good restaurant, but a great bar. It’s a nice big space and there are flat panel TV’s all over the place. I could definately see myself stopping in for a beer or taking the family there for dinner.

Took my 8 person family on mothers day for the brunch from 8am-1pm. The food was phenomenal and didnt run out of anything. Omelette bar was unique and great. Coffee was hot and delivered frequently. There service on the other hand was the reason for the 3 star rating. From having to wait 15 minutes for my reserved table and getting there to realize we were going to have to sit at a fold out table that could barely seat 6 comfortably, not ok. When we asked for another table we were told because of reservations we couldnt get one. Well once we spoke to someone else they accommodated us only to seat us at a table pushed up to a wall right by the main path so half my party couldnt get out. On our way to the new table, we were asked to move aside by an employee that had another party. Mind you I have a 92 year old grandma that has a walker. I told him he could wait while we got to our new table. Also why is it ok to sell flowers right outside the door?

Had them cater our rehearsal dinner. We were extremely specific about what we wanted. They said they could and would do it to our specifications. We asked them to write it up in detail to avoid any problems. It was like pulling teeth. Many phone calls went unanswered. Spent untold time and energy trying to get them to communicate and confirm. They did not do what they said they would and the food was not right. Believe it or not, this is our second unsatisfactory experience with them. The first one we chalked up to our not being specific enough. That is obviously not the real issue as we couldnt have been any more detailed this time. We will never use them again for anything and, in my opinion, you shouldnt either.

Weve loved going to Buddies but they have been making it harder and harder to come back. The last few times weve gone they have been super slow with seating and service and the food is just not good enough to overcome this major flaw. Tonight we were told it was a 15 minute wait and when we saw several empty tables we we happy. 45 minutes later after questioning the time table for seating we were sat in are area that had 5 other empty tables. They were out of 2 of the 4 specials including fish and chips (on a Friday during Lent). My Killians was warm and slinky and the burger I had was average at best. Im thinking we may take a break from Buddies. tables

Manager/bar tender was unbelievably RUDE. Asked her to run lotto tickets & there was a machine behind the bar. She directed me to the automated machine. There were NO customers at the bar. Needed a glass of water ASAP and she told me to ask our waitress. Wanted to cash in keno winnings and she waited on two people that came up to the bar AFTER me. She told me paying customers had priority. Dropped $50 on lunch so perhaps that doesnt count. Our waitress Keesha was top notch. Too bad they have a rude manager. Unacceptable customers service. The owner Terri Lynn needs to pay attention to what is going on in her restaurant

I have been here a handful of times and the food had been nothing but bland and underwhelming. The menu is jam packed with dishes that sound amazing but what comes out of that kitchen leaves you disappointed. This evening I tried the fried chicken sandwich with basil mayo. The Chicken was overcooked and had absolutely no basil or mayo along with cold fries. I am always looking for great places to recommend to out of towners. Sadly this place will not make my list...Sorry...I really wanted to like this place and have given it quite a few tries. I just cant anymore.
