Ive lived in tally for nearly 5 years now and have been completely dissatisfied with the sushi restaurants in town until this place. Im from sarasota where we have some very high quality fish. I just havent been able to find that in tally until now. Sakura is overpriced and the fish is usually not very fresh or tender, yet it is still probably one of the best in town. Masa is more or less the same. But the sushi I had at Izzy is far above and beyond. Ive been twice now already since it opened a few weeks ago. The tuna, salmon, and yellowtail were all incredibly fresh, tender and juicy. It melts in your mouth the way good sushi should. You shouldnt have to chew hard through the fish like at some of these other restaurants. Also, not as important but still to a degree, the rice was of great quality as well. The rice at Sakura tastes stale to me most of the time. As far as the aesthetics go, I like the way its been renovated a lot. It has a very authentic atmosphere like may be typical of a small sushi restaurant in Japan. The pub adds a unique element as well. Some of the appetizers seem a bit pricey but I wont knock them for it. You will have to accept paying what is probably the highest price in town for the nigiri or sashimi orders. To me its worth it to pay an extra dollar per order to get excellent, succulent fish versus paying less and getting unfresh fish that leaves you wanting better. Probably most of the folks in town with less developed tastes will be content with places like Sakura, masa, or Siam Sushi, but if you want the good stuff you have to come here and try Izzy!

First time at Izzy and arrived with a friend at 7:30 on a Friday night. We were told to sit wherever and were greeted promptly by our waitress. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay, which tasted like the bottle had been opened for a while. When I told the waitress that it did not taste good, she apologized then strangely offered it to my friend to drink. It was not a preference issue, it was a quality of wine issue. My friend and I then each ordered an appetizer and a sushi roll. The waitress came by a little while later with some complimentary hot sake (maybe because of the wine issue, not sure), which was nice. My appetizer (Okinomiyaki pub fries) came out first and was delicious, but my friends appetizer (Korean chicken bites) came out much later and was not as tasty as the fries. I guess our waitress got slammed because we did not see her for what seemed like forever. We saw several tables that arrived after us get their food before us. Finally, at 9pm, our sushi came to the table, but my friend and I were ready to leave at that point and asked for our checks and the sushi to be wrapped up to-go. The food was good and reasonably priced, but the timing/service needs work.

Its Saturday night. We were excited to try a new place and we saw Izzy and decided to give it a go. We go in to sit down and the hostess tells us to go sit anywhere. We sit there for 15 mins and a waitress walks by and says did yall get menus? We said no. We wait another 10 mins as finally get menus. The bartender comes out and apologizes and then takes out order. Another 10 mins go by we still dont have any drinks and then she come back and says we wont be able to make your sushi for another hour! Im thinking why didnt you just tell us that in the first place and we would have sat here with nothing for over 30 mins. Man Im not usually one to complain but that was the worst experience Ive had in a long time! Wish I could have tried the food!

Apparently they are new but this was not what I expected based on the reviews. Im disappointed but would give them another shot. The miso soup and edamame were incredibly salty. They did bring me another edamame with no salt. They didnt know what a hand roll was and brought me a regular roll even after I described one. It was also completely covered in teriyaki sauce making it easy too sweet to eat. After I described it in further detail the brought me a hand roll, but it still had too much teriyaki sauce. I hope they work out the kinks.

This place is pretty great. The atmosphere is what I like about it. It borders on NY Asian chic. And for that reason its almost impossible to get a table on the weekends or pop in for a bite if youre out on the town with friends. The sushi prices are a bit higher than other places in town but the quality of the fish is evident. Oh and the fried chicken thighs they serve are the closest thing to karaage Ive had since coming back from Japan.

By far the highest quality sushi, craft sake selection, and pub atmosphere in town. Perfect compliment to the Midtown neighborhood. Added bonus: the only place in town that offers an Omakase tasting menu, Sake flights, and Sochu!

Wandered in on a whim looking for nigiri and couldnt have been more happy - this place has the freshest fish in Tallahassee and an extensive sake menu to explore. When looking for good quality sushi, this is the place to go.

Ask them to build a sushi roll for you. Just tell them what you like, what you dont. Also, ask them to recommend a saki. I was pleasantly surprised that I liked it.

Sushi was fresh but they dont have much option for specialty rolls. "Trust me roll" was good. Our server was really nice.
