I was nervous about trying this place out due to the vastly mixed reviews. We usually frequent Ming Ten when in the mood for a buffet, and Hibachi Supreme was only ranked .2 lower than them, so I decided to take a chance. We arrived at 4pm on a Thursday and was relieved to see there were plenty of cars in the parking lot. A busy buffet means fresher food. My impression of the interior was that they have really let it go. The wainscoting all around the restaurant is horribly scratched. The booth we were seated in was heavily patched with duct tape and there was hardly any padding left. The selection of items was pretty impressive. About 40 different hot dish options, including some that you dont see often at buffets. I fixed a plate for my son first. There were lots of kid-friendly options. He chose some fruit, a slice of pizza (I would have passed on it, but kids arent that picky about pizza), a piece of garlic bread, a stick of chicken teriyaki, and a crab rangoon. I filled my plate up with chicken and broccoli, fried dumplings, salt and pepper shrimp, peanut chicken (fried chicken breast in peanut satay sauce), and coconut shrimp (tempura shrimp in a rich cream sauce). Everything was fresh and yummy except the pizza and garlic bread. The pizza was still edible, it just looked like it had been under the heat lamp too long. But its pizza at a Chinese buffet, so its not surprising. But, the garlic bread was inedible. Hard as a rock. Even my son wouldnt touch it after trying to take a bite. But the dumplings were delicious, tender and crispy where they browned. Exceptional for buffet dumplings. On my second trip, I also tried an egg roll and the crab rangoons. Both were fresh, but the egg roll filling wasnt very good. They also had a nice looking salad bar, though I didnt partake. We filled up one plate with dessert and fruit options to wrap up our meal. They had a cheesecake offering, but I was too full to enjoy something so heavy. I had a nice house-made macaroon (fresh and moist) and some canned peaches and fresh melon from the fruit bar. My son had some pudding, cappuccino cake, melon, and oranges. We never even made it to the ice cream because we were so full, but I did notice they had hot fudge topping and cones, as well as what appeared to be 4 different flavors of soft serve. Another thing we passed on was the sushi. It looked to be decent quality, but there werent any varieties that appealed to me. We also didnt try out the hibachi because our stomachs just werent big enough. The service was pretty good. Based on the reviews, I went in with low expectations for the service and was pleasantly surprised. Our dirty plates were promptly cleared and our cups were filled pretty quickly. The hostess and waitress were both very nice and took the time to talk to my son. The waitress even read his fortune cookie fortune to him. My overall impression: If you ignore the somewhat rundown appearance of the dining room, the food and service is pretty good. I would say it is rightly ranked just behind Ming Ten. While the food isnt quite as good, the vast selection makes up for it and its slightly cheaper.

I absolutely love their food. My PROBLEM is with the staff I really hate their manners last 2 times ive went i got the check put up on my table before I even finished my meal and im aware of my portions, I only spent half an hour there not 3. Very rude it seemed the waitress was just following orders i still tipped her well. After i paid i was told to wait in order for them to check if my money was real I was astonished...I did no such thing I made sure i went and stood in front of them by the door while they did that, I was not going to sit at my seat and feel less than...The other time before that i had a friend comeup from out of town and they actually tried to make us pay before we even ate...again I was confused and felt disrespected as others walked right in and sat to eat. You would think if you go somewhere to spend your money they would be greeting you and welcoming you to enjoy your meal at their restaurant...

Let me start by saying that I used to really like this place when it first opened in Grand Rapids, MI. I used to eat their often and really enjoyed it. Recently I took my wife there for a birthday dinner. Everything was going great until I got to the end of my plate. I noticed something that did not look right. It was a bug in my food. Not just any bug but a Cockroach. It was disgusting, especially considering that I had just most of the food off the plate. That was bad enough but when I complained and showed the waitress, they acted like it was a normal thing. This is not some backwoods third world country. Most people here do not think that eating a Cockroach is ok. When I refused to pay they kept arguing with me expecting payment. Needless to say, I will NEVER eat at this place. I do not like Cockroaches for dinner.

I went on an early Wednesday afternoon, just my man and I as we had to be out of the house for 4+ hours while maintenance was being done and needed to still work. It was slow, even quiet, but the food was not fresh ... as if it had already been sitting there for 4+ hours! It seems the servers are not okay with our use of their advertised free wifi and a power outlet. They did not give us refills or taken away our dirty dishes the whole time we were there. After a half hour of them talking among themselves behind the server table while angrily looking our way, they gave us our bill. They didnt come back at all for the hour we will still there. No refills, no busing ... not even asking us if were were okay. Nothing! If you want REAL service and GOOD food, go to Empire Buffet just a mile or so up the road.

OK so I checked this place out thinking itd be a great new upgrade from where Old Country Buffet used to be...unfortunately I was wrong. These guys do stress Quantity of food over the Quality. Yes the Hibachi grill was extensive and probably the highlight of the place. The buffet had the typical MSG loaded American-Chinese deep fried, swimming in oil General Tsos chicken and for some reason Pizza, that looks like a Red Baron left under a heating lamp for too long. The Sushi was absolutely revolting even for buffet standards, never recommend unless you want to get sick and die...okay that may have been a bit much. If you want decent chinese buffet and decent sushi buffet just check out Ming Ten on Celebration. The best part of the meal were the dumplings...even then meh.

Decent buffet. Not the best food in the world but, for buffet food, it is decent and has a pretty good selection. Service is not very pleasant.. not unpleasant mind you, they just do not go out of the way to be friendly to anyone which may be due to the fact that most of them speak little English (if any at all). Sushi is pretty terrible (though it could be due to my inexperience with it). Decor is plain and utilitarian and nothing to give you a feeling of atmosphere. Worth going for cheap food and many choices. For great food of high quality, might go elsewhere. Kinda tired of the whiners talking about the fat people. IT IS A BUFFET ! Not very hard to assume you might just run into an overweight person at a buffet.
