My wife and I skipped our favorite Chinese restaurant – New Mandarin Garden in Farmington Hills (the BEST!) to try Taste of China at 12 Mile and Middlebelt. We did this based on a recommendation we received about 5 years ago. What an awful, awful mistake. We should have known not to even go inside when we pulled into the parking lot on a Friday evening at about 8:15 pm and the lot was essentially empty. The unheeded warning of “hey, this place is empty for a reason” was restated when, once inside, there was only one table of patrons. One. Prime time Friday. “Get out as fast as you can!” Stupid us. We ordered dinner anyway. Out came my very tasteless egg drop soup. But then immediately thereafter out came our spring roll appetizers (fair at best), and out came my shrimp in lobster sauce (the shrimp were very tough and the sauce simply tasted bad). So I had three (bad) courses served at essentially the same time – unforgiveable in my book. To make matters worse, my wife’s (bland) chicken dish was served about 15 minutes after my entrée! I was furious and let the server know it. Here is her answer: “there are two cooks …one cooked my dish and the other cooked my wife’s, and they were done at different times”. Unbelievable but true. I flatly told her “that is not MY problem”, she acknowledged that she was to blame, and then scurried off to the kitchen. When we were finishing up our meals – you know, that “it’s almost ready to pay the bill and leave me a good tip time” – the waitress came over and out of the blue began cozying up to us talking about how difficult her commute was, given how far away she lived and the construction traffic she faced. Well, “hello, you are getting stiffed on the tip anyway”. We could not get out of this place fast enough. As my wife and I were about to walk out the door, the hostess – still seated behind the cash register counter and not once having come to our table to inquire about our meal – yelled “thanks for coming”. I could not contain myself. I walked over to her and said that usually after a disastrous meal, the restaurant offers up a free desert or comps an appetizer, but you never once showed enough of an interest in us to have known we were unhappy. I’m sorry for the lengthy review, but I can’t tell you how absolutely valueless this restaurant is – especially when there is such a superior option only a couple of miles away. I really hate places like this: terrible food, wretched service, and uncaring management. I would rather throw my hard earned money in the trash rather than waste an hour of my life suffering through another meal here.

Dirty restaurant!!! Had a bad experience there weeks ago. There were some flies hanging around the table, but this was not the worst. On my way to restroom I entered the kitchen by mistake and took a glance in side the kitchen, then I saw the disgusting source of the flies: a dirty trash bin was not covered, dozens of flies flying above it! I couldnt believe my eyes... This is the dirtiest restaurant I ever visited. It looks not bad outside, but really disgusting inside the kitchen. A friend told me this restaurant was notorious in Ann Arbor, and thats why the owner moved it here to continue fooling people. Some words for the owner of Taste of China, "shame on you! get out of here!"

This is one of the best places in this area to get real Chinese (Cantonese and Szechuan) food. Unfortunately, they are slow and unresponsive service during peak meal hours. (It took our table of five about an hour to get food.) My favorites here include the Lamb in Hot Pot in the winter and the Stir Fried Sliced Chicken with Curry Sauce and Coconut Milk in Hot Pot in the summer. (Dishes arent seasonal, just that Asians tend to eat more lamb in the winter.)

Garbage Staff and sub par food. Ordered two orders of crab Rangoon and get one small cup of egg roll sauce. I asked about the normal sauce that comes with it and they argue saying its right!! One shot glass of sauce for two orders or anything!?! Last time I come here. Not worth the $$$

The very definition of mediocre. Dumplings were virtually inedible and orange chicken was too sweet to eat. However, fried rice was excellent and service was very pleasant. Many better places in Metro Detroit.

Curry chicken was really good service was ok the soda is on the flat side and the ribs were rock hard but the place is really nice us a good atmosphere

All the unusual dishes, and the fish in a dark sauce are outstanding. I just tell them to feed us and what I like to eat and its happening
