Ate an early dinner here before an Opera House show. Squid ink fettuccine w/ seared scallops was really good - perfectly cooked pasta and scallops, nice garlicky sauce. House salad had a nice herbed vinaigrette, but was a touch expensive for what amounted to a handful of mixed lettuce, a few strings of red onion, and a couple grape tomato halves. Others in our party tried the butternut squash ravioli and said it was good, as was the swordfish special they had that night. I had the canolis for dessert, and for the price I was not terribly impressed, but I got a bite of someone elses amaretto creme brulee, which was really good and probably worth paying for a whole serving in the future. Service got the job done and was friendly, but not terribly attentive - seemed to take a bit too long to get drinks and desserts. Id say the prices are moderate overall (except the desserts, which are a bit overpriced), but you should take into account that everything is a la carte, and while I did not leave hungry, I found the portion sizes to be modest. In summary, its a nice setting and the food was good enough that Id go back to try other things, but definitely plan on a leisurely dinner and a few dishes being hit or miss.

Giving a very generous 3-star rating because some of the food was outstanding. The bread service includes honey butter, olive oil & herbs, and hummus. Fantastic arancini and calamari strips to start. My wifes salad never arrived. My entree was a very lightly-breaded dover sole over risotto and some to-die-for seasoned veggies. My wife ordered an Amish chicken dish with mashed potatoes. The entire plate was cold -- seriously, barely warm -- and the chicken was all dried out. We sent it back and shared my entree in the meantime. The second try on the chicken was nice and hot, but tasted fairly bland. Worse yet, when we cut into the thicker part of the meat, it was RAW -- not just a bit undercooked, but fully raw. Our waitress confirmed, apologized profusely, and took my wifes entire meal off the bill. The cannolis also lacked any kind of flavor. (Did they forget the cinnamon?) The chocolate & peanut butter torte was pretty good, but not what Id call special in any way. Thankfully, they whip up excellent cappuccino. Nevertheless, we wont be going back.

Im a native Detroiter who also lives in Florida. Ive read all of the wonderful reviews from people who were satisfied with their overall experience here. Unfortunately, Im unable to speak on that because Ive been here 4 times and have yet to spend a penny there because no one ever acknowledges me. Im a former model, classy and 59 so I KNOW the host and staff can see me. Before going to the Monday night Football game, my friend and I decided to try again to have a bite to eat and a cocktail at Angelina Bistro. Were we greeted at the door...NO. Were we acknowledged at the bar...NO. We we asked if wed like anything...NO!!!! WHY is my question? Once I chalk it up to nothing because it wasnt crowded. Twice, maybe its because the staff is busy. Three times no excuse because im a customer once I enter the door. Monday night was busy but the male hostess and bartenders looked at us a and ignored us. Perhaps its because of my brown skin. Yep, that must be the reason. Dee Jones

This is flat out my favorite restaurant in downtown. The food is modestly upscale (re: the comment in the review that the menu is now "bar food" ... nope). Its fresh and reasonably interesting. The open brickwork, street side dining, and wide windows that open up create a great atmosphere. Ive found the staff to be nothing but friendly and engaging. Add to this, the pricing is really quite reasonable. My most recent visit found the windows open, a Tigers game going on across the street, and a crowd of bicyclists going by on a warm summer evening. I got the Primavera appetizer instead of a salad (olives, cheese, fennel, arugula, and pickled onion with hot mustard .... for six dollars) and a pasta. With a glass of wine, I was out of there for 28 dollars before tip. Did I mention that its the second time Ive dined there this week?

Took my New York City friends to Angelinas and a Tigers baseball game... right across the street from the restaurant. They were knocked out by the fresh pasta dishes... Gnocchi was killler they said... better than they ever had in NYC and the Chianti, Josephine Sangiovese at $32 sealed the deal. Windows were open, warm breezes, People Mover rambling by, great energy! Service was friendly and attentive and not overbearing and suggestions were knowledgeable... it was a special but the Chocolate Mousse Torte was amazing. My friends came away very impressed with Detroit... of course, I had taken them by Washington Blvd on the way in to watch some of the filming of Transformers 3... this was no big deal and goes on all the time I told them...

Angelinas has a great feel with the windows open in the summer. Our meals were very good and reasonably priced for what you receive. They start you off with delicious bread with 3 different dipping options and offer affordable salad and soup choices with dinner. The only reason I cant give them 5 stars is because it took about 20 minutes to get a bottle of wine (they didnt have several choices and then we finally got one they did have). Additionally, we used a Groupon coupon and they had no idea how to deduct it from my bill, another 15 minute delay. Overall, wed go back. Also, valet was available on the Saturday night we went for $10.

The service and food was excellent. We arrived after a hockey game and although it was not busy because it was late, the staff was welcoming and polite. My husband and I shared the crispy calamari, which was probably the best Ive ever had. I had the clam fettuccine and my husband had the steak. Both super yummy and piping hot! We had drinks as well that were very good. We were also lucky enough to get two glasses of champagne because it was our anniversary! Cannoli for dessert that was so good! Not one bad thing could be said and we throughly enjoyed our visit. We will definitely go again!

The bread was sub par and tasted like 2 day old bread heated in the microwave giving a nasty texture and taste. The mushroom Mac and cheese had less than half a mushroom as thinly sliced as possible. The smoked chicken pizza was the most bland food i have had in a restaurant in years and the crust had the same crunchy yet rubbery texture as the bread. On top of it the service was awful and the pasta came out 10 minutes before the pizza. We would not recommend this place to anyone unless you happen to like throwing money away. We will never go back.

It was a busy night, after a Tigers game. Had to wait, no problem, however after being seated the waitress took our drink order and the wait began. Finally ordered and the salad was served within reason. After watching patrons, who came in later, receive their entrées, and finally after tracking down our waitress, discovered our order was never entered! No apologies and even had to track her down to get our bill. I will say the food was very good and talked to one of the owners about the service, but he could have cared less! Will not go back.
