PLEASE STOP USING STYROFOAM PLATES.. even worse, stop microwaving those plates. And when one asks for a glass plate, you are ridiculed by the attendant and her boss. Shame on you Shatila. I have been a customer for 16 years. I just dont want to feed my child microwaved plastic. You owe that to me as a customer. and You need to be more environmentally aware and health conscious. The only reason why I am writing this review is because I care about the state of all the middle eastern stores in the area. Their reputation is our reputation. I want to be able to bring my kids and their kids to these places and feel like they are reflecting the best of what our culture offers. I am always rushed. There must be a friendly and efficient way of getting the volumes of people through. Especially when I have guest whom Im trying to introduce to my beloved culture. It just seemed that questions were not welcome. The place is loud like a market place, as opposed to a nice bakery/dessert cafe. Additionally, I really dont think the desserts are as authentic as we all want to believe. They are authentic enough for being 7000 miles away from home. But better effort should be made to stay up to date with the quality and methods that are used in Lebanon and Syria. Settling with the status quo is not enough. I will remove / update this review if my next visits to shatila are influenced with improvements. I will take my glass plate with me next time. and see what they have to say about that.

I have always loved the cakes here so when I planned my wedding day I couldnt think of a better place to order my cake, i gave them a picture of the cake i wanted and was told they could make it happen. The day before the wedding i received a call saying they couldnt do the wrap i chose and had to go with a different color, it wasnt what i wanted but i trusted the cake would still be beautiful so i went along with it, which at this point i had no choice. I paid an extra fee of $70, to have it delivered because i trusted they would deliver it in one piece so it would be safe. The delivery guy dropped my cake and to make it worse added rose petals from the floor to the cake to cover up all the messed up parts which only made it worse, my one and only wedding which i can never get back was ruined with an ugly cake, it was still a beautiful wedding however i didnt get the beautiful cake i paid all that money for, i wish i could post a picture of it here for all to see. when i called to complain, they were only willing to give me my delivery fee back, which i said no i wanted more back, the most they gave me back was 80 off the cake and the delivery fee. I was very unhappy with that but i accepted because i didnt want to keep arguing about it, nevertheless be careful who you entrust with your most precious requests, as much as i love the cakes i would never order another one from here again and i wouldnt recommend anyone to either.

I dont even know where to start from really; if you are thinking about ordering anything online from there just forget about it; they impose 1-2 days shipping without prior notice to the customer. I think that they take advantage of the online orders in order to get rid of their old pastries since you are not there to see what is being given to you and just use shipping time as their excuse to why the pastries arent the way they are supposed to be. When it comes to their customer service; they have no customer service; I would say in their world is: the customer is always wrong; the fact that they have a NO Return policy should hint a lot--I have called them and the way they speak to you is just unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful all together. I was not impressed with neither the assorted baklava (so called assorted fillo baklawa mixes) or the madloka. When it comes to the madloka I don;t know whether they alter it so it can be shipped or what, but its not supposed to taste the way it did; it just sucked; the baklava was just dry all over the dough and the fillings were both dry.

I have been a customer at Shatila for the past 11 years, but today I was surprised by the way they treat their customers. I ordered a Banana split and waited my turn, after I went and sat down and started eating the Banana tasted different, I went to talk to the lady who did it for me, she pointed at the Bananas ( and they were all green, not even close to yellow, plain green raw bananas) I told her this is not healthy and you guys cannot feed your customers unripe bananas and I was shocked by her response, she told with an attitude that this is what we have and we are not going to refund your money, and I didnt even ask for a refund, I just wanted them to remove and replace the banana, and after we called the manager his response was the same. This was my last time at this Shatila, they think loosing one customer will not affect their business and that what pieces me off.

Beautiful looking food but none of the desserts are labeled or priced clearly so you dont know what youre ordering. I dont see how a customer with a food allergy is supposed to choose accordingly. You dont get what you pay for. I would rather pay more money for real whipped cream and fresh fruits. I ordered what was essentially a giant cake pop (minus the stick). You could taste the plastic wrap or Styrofoam that it was wrapped in while the cake itself had stale nuts. The only good part was the chocolate outer shell which didnt make up for the old taste. Our table was covered with some weird sticky stuff also. Shatila has too large of a selection to focus on quality of food. Its disappointing for a place with so many great reviews.

A must-visit when in Detroit... take a little side trip to Shatilas. Ive been several times, and enjoy the friendly staff and over the top selections of baklava and pastries. Finally I managed to try the ice cream - pretty good. I came alone, but no one inside seemed to care that my skin wasnt as "tanned" as most of the customers. Was helped in selecting a tray of items to take home, mentioned the kind of things I liked and the man behind the counter carefully selected and packed things that were just right for me. Ive seen a few negative comments here, if they are microwaving on Styrofoam they should stop, otherwise I love this place.

Extremely lazy staff. So lazy. I mean Sooo lazy. 2-3 will work and the rest just talk to each other. Their food is good but not good enough to deal with the racism. It was unique experiencing racism from the other side of things that I have not ever encountered (nor anyone else in our group) till now. If you are white dont bother with this place. You wont be helped no matter how long you wait, even asking for service they will ignore you and speak Arabic to each other in front of you. Which is obviously directed towards you and can be seen via nonverbal cues (under the radar pointing, directed headbobs ect). Count your change.
