Dont get the delivery. My wife and I ordered delivery from Miki on a Sunday evening. The online order form they had did not work, so we had to call in our order. We ordered shrimp tempura, miso soup, a coke, and two rolls of sushi: one "Crazy Girl Roll" (a spicy tuna roll) and one "Crunchy Roll." This ran our tab up to about $45. We were told the wait should be around 45 minutes, and that was fine. Nearly two hours later, the driver showed up and handed me a plastic grocery bag. Noticing how small it was, I thought there was a mistake. I expected a little more volume for $45, but that wasnt the issue. The real problem was that they threw all the hot and cold items into the same bag. We paid $2 for a can of coca cola. The two sushi rolls, a value of about $25, were stuffed into the same container, and the "crunch" of the crunchy roll was cemented onto the lid. Never mind the fact that one of the rolls was hot, and the other was supposed to be cold. The miso soup was lukewarm and the shrimp tempura was soggy. It also only had two pieces of shrimp. I have no doubt that this food would have been decent if we ate it at the restaurant, but Miki is doing their customers a huge disservice by offering delivery that ruins the food. Again, I think the quality of the food might have been fine at the restaurant. I think the lesson we learned (and I hope Miki learns too!) is that the type of food we ordered just doesnt taste as good when it sits in a shopping bag for an hour.

In November 2015, I broke a tooth at Sushi Zen, that a for-en object was in my food, The owners did admit fault. The owners (Kims) filed a report with Farmers Insurance.. Lied, to the Livingston county health dept. they were “tipped off” from Livingston health dept. Sushi Zen, did a deep cleaning 1 day before the state went in to sushi Zens to hide their Illegal ways.. I, also found out they have 12-20 Illegals working there and making food Illegally, that their from Mexico working there Illegal.. After, I called Home land security, The Kims have fired every last one putting them on the street, In the cold. Also the (Kims) houses these Illegals in a property that the Kims own/rent for the Illegals. (Harvesting) Sushi zen also has employees drinking alcohol Illegal, under age drinking.. Sushi Zen, Pays No Federal or state taxes on the illegals employees. Which has been reported to the IRS. This is NOT only a very bad situation for me, but to all that eat there, Selling of drugs have been reported, people that are coming from other countries have shown that they will hurt Americans.. Sushi Zens gross negligence, against there business practices should NOT go on. I have called, many Government agencys, I, also will be calling the Papers. There are so many concerns at Sushi Zen, I, hope to help, others. The Kims, Making money, Not paying taxes, Hiring Illegals, Threats, from his Attorney, Farmers Insurance, Why, All due too Sushi Zens Illegal ways...

I had been to Miki once before and decided to order for delivery. I called to order and was told I should expect my sushi in 30 to 45 minutes. 60 minutes later I called back to ask where my food was and was told the delivery person left because they called 4 times and only got a busy signal. Turns out the person who took my order took down my number wrong and never repeated it back to me to verify. I was then told that they would be back to re-deliver in 10 to 15 minutes. 30 minutes later the driver showed up down the block at the wrong address and finally gave me my cold hour old sushi that I had waited a total of 90 minutes for. After I called to complain the manager proceeded to tell me that it was MY fault that they got my phone number wrong and that the driver was outside calling me and that I should have went outside to look for him. He then lectured me on how they always "verify numbers twice" so they dont get them wrong when that is clearly not what happened in my case. I found this very rude and then insulting when he told me the the only thing they could do was give me $6 off my NEXT order. Their sushi is good sometimes, but if they mess up your order and make you stand outside waiting for 30 minutes, they tell you how it is your fault.

I didnt know how lucky I was to have an excellent Japanese Restaurant right in my back yard in the Flint area (Sagano), but Miki really fell short of my expectations after reading some of the other reviews. My husband ordered various types of sushi, and I had the Bento dinner. The teriaki in the Bento was very good, but the tempura was very greasy. Im used to tempura being light and crispy, but this had oil dripping from it and the doily at the bottom of the compartment was soaked in oil. The nigiri was sliced in rather large thick pieces making it difficult to eat at once. I cut each piece in half and that seemed to be better. As for the sushi, the rice was a bit tough and wasnt sticky like typical Japanese sushi rice. The white tuna, when I bit into it, had a "watery" feel as if it were frozen at some point and was just thawed out which kind of grossed me out a bit, hoping I wouldnt end up getting sick (which I didnt). The restaurant and service were nice enough and easy to find when in Ann Arbor. I love sushi and Japanese food, however, I think I have been spoiled with restaurants that are much better than Miki. Not fancier, just better at the preparation, taste and overall quality of food.

Closer to 4 stars, except for the following: The food is really quite good and of reasonably consistent quality. I eat there more often than ordering out, and was recently disappointed by a take-out experience: some items when eaten-in come with a small ginger salad and miso soup. Inexplicably those are not included with take-out or on-line orders, although the menu items cost the same (of course you can pay for and get the extras with take-out). When I politely (really!) questioned that, I was passed up to the manager who could only defend the policy by saying that it had been that way since he started there. On top of that, there was a small mystery charge (1.5%, I believe) on the tab. These are just petty penny-pinching, hidden policies that leave a poor taste (no pun intended). I know the restaurant business has slim margins, but really, cant the pricing be more consistent and up-front?

I simply cannot recall a restaurant meal that Ive enjoyed so much. In Philadelphia for a brief, last-minute trip, we booked a late dinner at Vetri (last table seated that evening). It was worth staying up for -- every dish was exquisite, especially the famed gnocchi, light as air. And the service was so cheerful, engaged and considerate. Worth every penny and every minute. We may come back to Philly just to eat here again.

Splendid Shabu Shabu! We had both a sushi roll and Shabu Shabu and both were excellent. The Shabu Shabu was a spectacular value for the amount of food we got. Another great feature of this unassuming-on-the-outside-but-lovely-on-the-inside spot is the fact that they carry Michigan beers both on tap and bottled. A great value and delicious food, and as mentioned below, they validate parking for the lot across the street.
