I visited the Blue Tractor on recommendation from a co-worker who rants and raves about it. I arrived at the Blue Tractor around 4:30 on Saturday. There was no wait to be seated. The interior of the establishment was definitely unique, with the staff wearing different versions of blue or red "farm style" plaid shirts. Our server was very nice, and the seating was comfortable. After placing our order, it was about 20 minutes until the food arrived. I ordered the Smoked Sausage, and my companion ordered the Crispy Chicken. The crispy chicken was actually very good. The macaroni and cheese that accompanied the meal was tasty as well. My meal, however, was a disaster. The "smashed" potatoes were deep fried so long that the insides were black and crispy. The Sausage appeared to have been extremely overcooked, as it was very dry and tasteless. It was like eating shoe leather. The fried Mac and cheese was, sadly, the only part of the meal I enjoyed. When the waitress came back around, I still had 1.5 out of the two sausages sitting on my plate for her to remove. She asked if everything was ok, and i explained that I was extremely unhappy with the sausage and why. In her defense, she offered to bring the manager around, but because I ate pretty much everything else (I was starving from walking around Ann Arbor for 6 hours), I politely declined. I may give this place another chance in the future, but honestly with all of the exceptional eateries in downtown Ann Arbor, it will probably be a VERY long time before I revisit the Blue Tractor.

The food and beer is excellent. The server I had was also very attentive and all around great. I have one reservation about this location that some may dismiss as insignificant, but others may see why it affected my review so much. We went there during the Michigan vs. Rutgers game. I am a big Michigan fan, but I am also a Chicago Cubs fan and the Wolverines were up 43-0 on Rutgers and I wanted to watch the NLDS game 2 where the Cubs played the San Francisco Giants. We requested this from our server and she turned ONE TV to the game. We were in the room not by the bar and while I am sure some were occasionally checking into the game, nobody appeared to mind that the channel had been turned from the Michigan game. Que about 10 minutes later and the Cubs have the bases loaded with no outs and the manager comes and just turns the channel back to the Michigan game. I go up and talk to him and he lists a string of weak excuses of why it has to be on the Michigan game and, I quote, "sorry, not everyone can be happy". I agree with this phrase. However, in this instance, that is far from the case. It was apparent from talking to the manager that he simply wanted every TV to have the Michigan game on and had no interest in customer satisfaction from this point of view. Blue Tractor will not be receiving further business from myself or those that were with me (4 others) and we will be discouraging others from eating here. It is a shame such a great eatery is managed so poorly. TL;DR The manager is a jerk.

A group of friends and I recently ate at Blue Tractor on a Tuesday evening. I accidentally left a very expensive pair of Ray Ban sunglasses that night. The next afternoon when Blue Tractor opened, I called and asked about the sunglasses. The lady that answered confirmed that the glasses were there, so I gave her my name and she said I could pick them up whenever they were open. Since I live about an hour away and work full time, I had to wait until the weekend to make the trek to Ann Arbor to pick up my glasses. However, when I arrived the sunglasses were nowhere to be found. I left my phone number and address in case they turned up, but after a week I still hadnt heard anything. I called the following Saturday as soon as they opened. A woman answered the phone and asked if I could hold while she checked for them. When somebody returned to answer it was the manager. I told him the situation in a respectful, yet concerned tone. He became extremely hostile and rude, and completely belittled the situation. Instead of assisting me in any helpful way, or even apologizing for his staff losing my sunglasses that they promised to keep, he sarcastically offered a $10 gift card in exchange for the $300 sunglasses. He didnt even put in the small effort that it takes to find out who was working the day that we were told they would hold our sunglasses to ask the lady what she had done with them. This customer service was beyond rude and distasteful. My friends and I will definitely not being going here again.

Being a southern girl at heart, I just had to try this place! Highlights: Sweet Tea (tastes like homebrewed Sun Tea... love it!), Basket of Fried Goodness, Doughnut Bread Pudding, the ambiance, the service, the pimento cheese spread (really light with a cream cheese base and not the thick and sticky stuff you buy in the grocery store), the sweet potato fries, the BBQ sauce, bread and butter pickles (totally homemade), and the fantastic beer sampler. From the carnivores in the crowd, the pulled pork, and the burgers were the best! Oh, and the other best thing, a great meal that didnt break our budget. Rock on! What I do not recommend: The vegetarian burger: too dry and fell apart easily. Im trying the Mac and Cheese next time which I hear is fabulous. The potato chip and blue cheese fondue... great chips, and actually great fondue but to get a HUGE basket of chips and a tiny little sauce cup of the fondue was really a disappointment. And when I mean tiny, I mean tiny little plastic cup that you get with take out food. Will we go back? Absolutely! In fact, were having lunch there tomorrow!

Walked into this place knowing nothing other than they served beer and barbecue. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Quickly seated, since at 5 PM the place was empty. GREAT smokey smell. Good service. MENU: Typical barbecue stuff - brisket, pulled pork, etc - though kinda pricey. Beer was decently priced and they had several varieties. I had a porter which was good and only $4.25 for a pint. FOOD: .....Oh boy. Wife and I ordered the beef brisket to share, basing the amount of food on the many, many other barbecue joints weve eaten at (granted most of them were in the south). Four slices of brisket for seventeen bucks. The brisket was flavorless but thats okay because it was also tough. Sauce helped the taste but not the texture. Also had some pulled pork sliders, and they also were tough and flavorless. Very disappointing. Beer was great, triple mac-n-cheese was ok. All in all, food was lousy and not worth the price. Find a place with burgers or pizza, since of the four or five brewpubs we tried on this visit, the beer was pretty good at all of em (and so was the food... besides this one).

I normally dont give BBQ joints 5 stars outside of key BBQ zones like Memphis, Texas, etc....but, this by far is my fav BBQ outside of Those zones. They have excellent sauces from all regions (6 of them) the purple being my favorite! Their ribs arent great dont get those but my favs are the pulled pork nachos! Total share dish! The Carolina pulled pork with cheddar Grits and Brussels are what dreams are made of! Even since giving up meet I will be back to have that when in town. Their carnivore burger is out of this world so If you like fat burgers with mad meats on them here u go! Fried jalapeños and all! Their beer selection is always on point and their bartenders are great! Before I moved to San Diego one of the guys said his dad used to live in the community I was moving to...OB. Few places I love more than my home state the mitten but my new home OB. I hope he still there so I can tell him how cool its been since we moved but, how much we miss the Blue Tractor ! See u guys in May!
