We have visited the Bombay Mahal several times in the past. Mostly for their Dhosas. This may have been 3 - 4 years ago. Last night, we were with an Indian couple and we all had a craving for Pani Puri. Pani Puri is a very well known Indian delicacy. They make those tiny puries (deep fried breads) so they become a balloon of some sorts. Then you puncture a hole in the top, fill is with chopped onions, potatoes, some channas (cooked chickpeas) and bit of sweet chutney. Then you dip the entire thing in a bowl of pani (spicy mint flavored water) to fill it up and then place the entire thing in your mouth. Finally, after you eat all the puries you drink the pani, which now has been flavored with all the other things --- oh, so delicious. Well, yesterdays Pani Puri had a lot to be desired. First off the puries had holes all over in them, so they could not hold the water. We returned a batch - only to get another one just as bad. Third time, they finally got it right. No holes. There was such little pani (water) that we had to add it to our puris with a teaspoon. We asked for more. Again they gave us another 1/2 cup. It was too ridiculous. Finally, when we really complained - they gave us two bowls of the pani, which should have been given to us at the very beginning. We are talking pennies here. No reason to be so stringent. We had also ordered a serving of idli an a serving of vada. (Wont go into the details here). Both was so salty, that they were inedible. We had to return them. The mixed grill we ordered was fine. Not only was the food so bad all around, but the service was awful. The two waiters were rude and not accommodating at all. My husband and I eat out often. We are not complainers. We do understand that some restaurants will have a bad night now and them. But last night was just too much. We were truly disappointed - and so were our Indian friends. I cant give this restaurant any stars and - no - we will not go there again.

I had never heared any thing good about this place from any Indian friends; only BAD; when we lived in Waltham 12 years back. Being Indian I tried this restaurant once ..12 years back..food was horrible. After a Groupon deal I went again ..food and service was even worst. They also argued on groupon deal and did not give us the deal we bought ( We bought $35 for dinner of 4 worth $83.89 - The guy came with the Bill deducted only $35 ..then we said this is groupon deal and 4 speciality dinner are for this groupon value. He mocked at us and said he can only give us $70 back; He also said Groupon is all scam) So he took extra money from us. Really how come so many folks give even 2 star to this place ..I saw another family screaming at the waiter for water not being served for 15 minutes ..Same with us. Waiter came 3 times to check our soup order and then got the wrong ones ...one soup was smelling horrible. We returned all 3..as 4th never came. Please save your money and agony. Please check with your Indian friend before going to any Indian place. This place is THE worst food I had in any Indian Joint ever. Stay away from Meat ..it is stale and old.

We had a Groupon deal for dinner for 4 for $35. When I called to make a dinner reservation on Mothers Day, I was told the restaurant was very busy and that I should provide a number so the manager could call back if a table opened up. I told them I was going to be in the vicinity anyway and would take my chances. Immediately, they said the could give me a table in 10 minutes. When we got there, the restaurant was empty except for one occupied table (!!!) and remained mostly empty until we got done 90 minutes later. The service was incompetent with late and wrongly filled orders. The food was decent but we were put off with the dishonest behavior.

I had no idea what indian food would taste like but I have to say i was especially delighted. I like the food very much. like i said i dont know much about indian cuisines but what I have tried, I like. As far as the service they have always been friendly and attentive towards me but than again I am a very good looking female, so that just might be it.

Never go to this retaurant if you want a real good Indian food, service is very bad. The response was very bad, they accepted that their food is terrible all the time. Waste of Money and time, be careful if you have any food allergy.

Ive been to most of the Indian restaurants on Moody st, and this one is definitely my favorite! The staff is also quite friendly! (Not bland or flavorless at all, I dont know what the other reviewers are talking about.)

Lunch buffet was uninspiring though the food that was there was well cooked. Based on reviews here and from word of mouth I was expecting a lot more. The worst thing was that the heat was turned off.

I stopped going here a while ago because of the surly service and the fact that the carpet is so filthy that your shoes stick to it. Id hate to see what the kitchen looks like.

Delicious lunch buffet. Better quality and better selection than the place across the street. I filled my plate with vegetarian selections and was delighted.

Food wasnt particular good. However, the service was horrible. Management refused to accept Living Social Voucher, which seems quite shady to me.
