Unfortunately a good experience turned poor by incredibly slow service. I wont give it a .00001 like Tim did below because I really want to give them another chance. Mainly because there really arent many other options in the area! The wings were great and they came out at a normal time for fresh wings. The main course came out over an hour later! I asked what was going on when a couple right next to us (that came in 30 minutes after us) to us got their food before we did (and they ordered pretty much the same food). So maybe they play favorites with regulars? I was told that the well done hamburger was the reason why it was taking so long. Come on man...seriously!?! It then came out 20 minutes after that...and it seemed like it had been under a heat lamp for several minutes. The salmon also came out pretty dry . There was another group of 4 who waited as long as we did. The restaurant was not full so I assume it has a tiny kitchen or a not so happy kitchen crew. Our waiter seemed frustrated as well, but really didnt offer much of an apology. An offer to take something off the bill would have helped this review as it would have meant they at least care about their customers. However, clearly this is the norm and the staff have grown to accept it. Thankfully we werent in a big hurry and yes, I still do want to give them a second chance.

BEWARE!!! (sorry I cant give .00001 stars) We visited on 5/19/17 and there was a moderate crowd. The appetizers and drinks came at a normal time for 7 people however it took 1 1/2 hours to serve our food!!! That was after inquiring 2 times! We only saw our waiter 3 times, when we got there, ordering and the bill. On top of the late food, one of our party got his food another 15 minutes afterwards (and he was an elected state official that won by over 75% of the votes). After the food issue we received our bill. Somehow a $250 bill turned into $2,150!!!! They corrected that of course, however they didnt bring the corrected receipt and then gave us attitude when we asked!?!?! No offer to make things right, no discount on any of the meals or a discounted return visit (which obviously wouldnt happen anyways) So guess what.... no tip and NO RETURN VISITS. I would recommend the same for whomever is reading this.

I went to 224 Boston Street recently. I had frequently passed this little restaurant many times. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff was cordial. My boyfriend ordered the steak which came with mashed potatoes. The steak was delicious, however the potatoes were a bit rubbery. I ordered the seafood fra diavlo, which Ive had many places. Half my mussels didnt open, the wheat pasta (props for health factor) was over cooked, and the sauce tasted/smelled like chef boyardi. I was disappointed with my entree, however the lettuce wraps were excellent and the adult beverages were tasty. If you need to use the rest room prior to leaving, Id hold it. It was incredibly hot in the bathroom!

The food was good, nothing much to write home about. My sister ordered the caprese salad and it made have been the saddest salad I have ever seen. 4 thinly sliced pale tomatoes laying in olive oil, with small pieces of mozzarella. The wings on the other hand (my app) were really good, so was my actual meal. I guess my sister wasnt choosing great from the menu because her main was odd looking and she wasnt too happy with that either. We got to 224 10 minutes after it opened and when I requested something from the menu the waiter came back to our table and said they were out of it....10 minutes into service? and we were the 5th set of people there. I found that odd.

The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. We started off with the fried calamari. Both my companions claimed to dislike calamari but this one changed their minds! Two of us ordered the steak tips with mashed potatoes and roasted Brussel sprouts; the other got the special, pork butt, and we were all delighted! We ended the meal with the banana bread pudding - perfect! Great food, great prices, great service - all rolled up in a sweet little neighborhood restaurant. In a few weeks Ill be going to the Kennedy Library down the street and I plan to return!

The food was delicious, but a little overpriced for Dorchester. The wait staff was mostly cordial. However, I caught a dirty look after I told a waitress that our initial waiter told me they had yellow mustard when she brought me Dijon; prior to ordering, I told the initial waiter I was ordering the cheeseburger only because he confirmed they had yellow mustard (confirming yellow and not Dijon). Sides are pretty small. I will go back; the burger was delicious, and again, the service was mostly pleasant.

Best Clam Chowder, period. What a great place! The food was phenomenal - we had clam chowder, scallops, asparagus, salad and topped it off with banana bread pudding. All were perfect. To top it off, the waitress had immaculate timing and took care of our every need before we even had a chance to make eye contact. It was a perfect outing.

If you enjoy perfect service, amaiiiizing food, and the best bartender in town, THIS is the place to go. Personal service for a large party on a late Sunday night after a long convention. Worth the drive to get here. A true Diamond. Like a Tardis, its bigger on the inside. Drive for this little gem. You wont be let down.

We like the roll. Other than that we are disappointed. We ordered Lobster Mac and cheese and meatloaf for dinner. It has no taste. Mac and cheese at kfc is much better. Pricey. Food and the walkway to get to the restaurant has so many dogs poop. NOT COMING BACK for sure. We dont recommend this place.

My husband and I came here as a recommendation from our hotel. What a great restaurant!! The food, the staff and the ambience is worth the visit. Next time we come to Dorchester we are coming back. Thanks 224 for an amazing experience

Not really a good place for vegetarians. The tomatoes in the caprice were not very flavorful, but the basil was good. The hot fudge sundae was not anything to write home about. Still, the service was good and atmosphere was nice.

224 Boston Street Restaurant is a home away from home kind of dining experience. From summer cocktails on the garden patio to hearty comfort food in the depths of winter, 224 is one of Dorchesters enduring hidden gems.

It took 35 minutes to get our food and it wasnt a full restaurant. And the food came out in fits and starts, not quite as we ordered and some of it cold. Not a great dinner. Hopefully it was just an off night.

The service is great and food is delicious. This is where I take friends when they visit Boston so we can avoid lines and chain restaurants at those overpriced new waterfront tourist traps.

Fun and slightly fancy atmosphere with a good selection of food. Everything was very yummy although the service was a little slow. Would recommend the calamari appetizer!

Best scallops -- doesnt matter the season -- the scallops are always great on every seasonal menu. Also, Lobster Mac & Cheese, is the best Ive ever had ever ever ever!
