I have been to Sakura many times over the past few years, even before it was renovated. After they refurbished the inside of the restaurant, it seems like they got new staff as well. I went to eat there earlier in the summer and sat in front of the sushi bar. I took a call at dinner and while on the phone I could hear the person preparing the food talking with one of the servers and mimicking my phone call. Im not sure if it is rude in Japanese culture to eat and talk on a cell phone but I was dining alone and it wasnt a very long phone conversation. I chalked it all up to being my imagination and, after eating, gave a generous tip. The last time that I went there, I asked for a drink that wasnt on the menu but was a common drink that I always had when I went there. My waitress said they didnt have it (which was news to me since Id always had it there). Then she walked over to the other servers and, in Japanese, told them what happened. I dont speak Japanese but she repeatedly said the name of the drink when explaining what happened to them, then continued to joke and laugh about it not 10 feet away from where I was sitting in complete disbelief. It wasnt very busy but they managed to take forever to take my order and I had to flag someone down to bring my check. The whole experience was unprofessional and very dissatisfying. I didnt tip and havent been back since, which is unsettling since Sakura used to be one of my favorite places to get sushi. However, there are definitely other sushi places in Hagerstown that have sushi as excellent as Sakura with MUCH better service and professionalism.

WE PAID $20 FOR A MEAL THAT DIDNT EVEN FILL HALF OF THE PLATE! First of all our server was rude half the time, she got frustrated easily with questions. Second we paid $20 for a hibachi meal and when I usually go to hibachi my plate is completely full, but guess what!? I was lucky if my plate was even half full, 3 eggs in the rice for 7 people, each one of us only got a quarter plate of rice that was stacked very very small. Then we go to pay, there policy does state that 6 or more people they can add gratuity to your bill which I respect being a server myself... but considering I paid $20 for a meal that was barely a meal and got some terrible service, the restaurant nor our waitress deserved the extra $10 that she added to my personal bill. So all in all terrible service, garlicky food, not to mention the LACK OF FOOD AND IT BEING OVER PRICED!

I have frequented this restaurant many times as I do all asian retaurants in Hagerstown. I have put up with the rude host at the desk (I believe his name is David) before, but no longer. The third waiter we had finally stopped at our table to take our refill order (Sake and Kirin) only after we had finished eating. Then to add insult to injury our bill arrived with our second round, what is worse is the fact that there was still plates of food on the table, as well as our soup bowls were still stacked on the table from the first course. The absolute worst part of this experience is not even two minutes after the bill arrived the host came over to our table and asked us to hurry and pay our bill because people were waiting for our table. I guess I should thank him for making Nikko the easy choice!

I have never tried their habachi grill, I only have eaten their sushi but I have to admit it is much better than it used to be. When Sakura first opened it was awesome, but it was just a hole in the wall with a tiny little dining room. Now it has quadrupled in size and is full of new wooden furniture, new grills, warm lantern lighting etc. I have to admit, the atmosphere is excellent now, but the sushi rice turned crunchy, the fish was flavorless, and there is nothing special about their special rolls. However, in the past few years, they have turned around and with House of Kobe, Nikkos, and now Fuji competing for the sushi-loving crowd, their sushi is much better if a little more pricey. If you want great cheap sushi, I would suggest Fuji (near Robinwood Medical Complex) instead.

Screw all of those 2 star reviews. Ive been to dozens on sushi bars, and this one is definitely my favorite. The sushi and habachi beat all the other places Ive been to. The waitresses are always very kind to me, and the only time I felt like someone was rude to me there was when there was a giant line of probably 15 other groups trying to get seats. They wrote my name down wrong so I literally waited two hours to get a seat. Thats my only negative experience out of going there for 15 years. Sakuras definitely deserves more business and success.

Weve eaten there twice now, and each time ordered different sushi entrees. We dined in the first time, and our meals werent too bad, just didnt really live up to our expectations. Last time we got take out, and the sushi was terrible. We wouldnt have been able to even eat the Happy Combo if it werent for sauces and ginger. Every roll was almost entirely avocado or cucumber and hardly anything else. The wrap was very thick and tough, and honestly, we ended up picking most of the "fillers" out. Next time well just stick to Nikkos.

I tried calling right after my order was delivered but the gentleman did not seem to understand me any more than when my order was first taken. The food is good, I cant say great, but it is good. Fish is always fresh so they def have that going for them. BUT do NOT ask for special prep. I simply asked for the sauce to be removed and I still got my tartar with the gross sauce. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me in less than a mo. Go for it exactly as is otherwise your gonna be disappointed.

Dont spend your money in this place. We have been in Sakura many times but noticed that the last two times we visited the amount of food was like a child plate. The chef rushed through and gave everyone in the table a little portion of everything. I had 5 little slices of the steak and my husband ordered lobster which it was a very small portion. Very disappointed. Told the hostess but care less. Will never visit again. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

The food is good, but I cannot say anything good about the service. I have been to Sakura many times, and not once I felt the customer service has been sincere to me at all. It felt like they could care less if I am there customer or not. I am not sure why they would carry this attitude toward there customer. I give tips too you know. If it is not the tips, so someone enlighten me why they have such a bad customer service toward there customer.

Best Habachi Ive ever had. Best service too to boot. We came in while they were low staffed. As we waited, they apologized for the wait and treated us to complimentary shushi. This was also the first place that involved my 2 year old daughter with the show. After doing the Saki rounds, he pulled out "baby saki" (water). My daughter thought it was hilarious. Overall great service and happy employees. Great establishment!
