Used to go there all the time purely for the entertainment piece for the kids...until one day, had reservation for 3 and a baby and showed up with 2 people, 1 + baby were on their way. Was told to wait until all people in the party show up and its a policy. The whole reason was to celebrate 9 year old birthday and considering baby does not have the patience to sit through all 1 hour ordeal they were running purposefully late to get to already served food, and leave timely to save everyone from complaining baby. What was presumed to be the owner purposefully did not want to sit us, even though i explained numerous times that i am purchasing and ordering food for everyone in the party, and its irrelevant if they are there or not as i am paying for the seat and the food for that seat even if its empty...In the meantime sits 3 different parties in front me..so he held us at the door until finally all showed up, then of course sits us at the empty table to wait for other folks to fill up the table before even chef comes out. And if you been there before you know its a good 40-50 minutes. So clearly we have to leave as i am not to subject everyone else in restaurant to impatient baby. No consideration, no sympathy, and God knows what that policy is justified with but his explanation was this is how his successful business operates for 22 years. Customer Service is definitely 0.00, and he does NOT CARE, as he says his business is good...Food - i give it 3 Stars without consideration of not so good experience. In fact, might even give it 2 stars, because if you take their yam-yam sauce away, thats becomes just regular food you can throw on a pan yourself. Go to MADRONES in Frederick MD - ALL DAY LONG, best restaurant in Frederick, hands down.

Service was terrible and I never complain. My girlfriend Didnt get the birthday sundae like everyone else even after letting them know a second time it was her birthday. They forgot to give us soup or salad but wouldnt take anything off the check. I started to write a whole page about the crappy service but I can sum it up by saying it was as if there was no one in charge. Like its run by a bunch of kids. Other servers shouting questions to my server over me while Im trying to order. Servers blaming each other for the problems. The food wasnt that great, the chef rushed through the jokes and clearly didnt want to be there. Really not an enjoyable time. I give a VERY generous two stars. My girlfriend has serious food allergies, after being assured there was no vinegar in the sauce I was told its mostly mayo which of course has vinegar. Oh yeah and the bar was dirty and sticky. Never going back. Yeah no, one star....

Love Matsutake even better since change of ownership. Went in for my wifes Bday and she received a very nice desert surprize and they took our Family Picture for the wall. I asked when we left if the were under new ownership because of how fantastic our visit was & they informed me that they did. They mentioned that they did keep many of the Hibachi Grill artist & this time around, we must have gotten their best guy. We go there at least 5 times a year for each of our Bdays and will keep going back. I usually get the Scallops & they were made with a caramelized coating on them, which made them the best I had ever had there. LOVE IT!

Waitstaff was clueless. Asked for hot sake, got cold and they wouldnt take it back. Dynamite was a bunch of surimi when it should have been real crab and scallop with roe (as written). No roe to be found. Asked the chef and waiter about the roe and both stated there is no roe with platter. Had to point it out to both chef and waiter on the big sign that it says it contains roe. Ordered quail egg over roe.....can you believe it? No roe. They brought us a plate with 4 quail eggs. Wtf? Oh, and the icing on the cake ? When we ordered martinis off the menu, there was no bartender to make them. Lol.

Ive been going to Matsutake since they opened in 2005. They were doing okay with service and food back then. But now, everything changed alot. I mean ALOT. They now have full time bartenders, selling Japanese draft beer with Happy Hour, and have Kobe beef on the menu. I tried their Kobe beef special and it was really melting in my mouth. I also ordered some sushi as an appetizer and it came out nice and fresh. Love this restaurant. I asked one of waitstaff about these changes and she said the management changed recently. Great restaurant. Must try.

Horrible service. Horrible staff. Dont order takeout. Every time we drive home the rice is missing, or fried instead of steamed. They only fill up to go sauce cups halfway and charge you if you want 2. Also I decided to add the yum yum sauce recipe because the ingredients are NOT expensive 1 cup mayonnaise (do not use low-calorie substitutes) 2 tbsp water 2 tbsp rice vinegar 1 tbsp white sugar 1 tbsp melted butter 1½ teaspoon paprika 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp tomato paste Let sit covered in fridge over night

Horrible management. I did not get what I ordered and i was told that they could either refund me or remake my order. I opted for the refund as I was already annoyed with the service. I got there and the manager made a huge deal about my refund stating he didnt have my receipt. Every restraunt keeps a store copy. After finally getting my refund I left highly ticked off. And for the last and final kick, the bitches charged me double. Guess who will be getting a phone call from the bank tomorrow. Ass hats.

I made a mistake by choosing this restaurant purely based on reviews. Apperantly people in Frederick dont know good sushi. If you are from Baltimore, NY or any other big city where you are used ot eating outstanding sushi, dont go to this place. We had beef shumai for appetizer and it was both bland and greasy. I gave them three stars for big and clean space as well as fast and friendly service. But I wouldnt go back here for sushi. I didnt try their hibachi so I cannot comment on that.

Although they still cant handle a rush, It is a must visit. They seem to be designed for presentation and slow pace. The sushi buffet is a great value and a must for sushi lovers. Hibachi is great entertainment and good food. I am a frequent customer. They also have a bartender, Phil, whom I thought had left. Very personable and creates some awesome drinks. Try his captains kiss if you like rum and cokes. Just make sure you give some time on movie nights and have reservations. Enjoy

Im updating my review. Our service tonight in the non-hibachi section was terrible. Our waitress was so scrambled, I had to remind her about my salad/soup after 15 minutes, and it was not busy at all. My boyfriends sushi came out fine (never had an issue with the sushi), but mine took almost an hour and a half. Shrimp was cold, it just wasnt worth the wait. By looking at the other tables, nothing went right for them either. Ill give this place a few months before I come back.
