I went to Sakura with a large group of college students for a friends birthday, and we had a reservation for the back room so they knew we were coming. When we walked in, the waiters immediately shouted "no sake bombs" at us. The room was not set up when we got there - it did not even have chairs, and we had to wait for ten minutes for them to bring them. They flat-out refused to bring us water or menus. We finally got water after half an hour of argument and finally got six menus between the fourteen of us. When we went to order, they told us it would be ten dollars minimum per person. We ordered a few meals and several rolls of sushi, so it was understandable that they made a few mistakes, but when I pointed out that we had not received one of our rolls they completely denied it and told me I was rude. When we got the bill, it only had letters and numbers, plus the prices - no list of what we ordered. We asked for menus so we could compare the numbers, and they refused to give them to us or to tell us what was on the bill. To make matters even worse, this was the second time I had received outrageous service. If you want Sushi, go to Tokyo - its literally a block away.

Dont usually do reviews but I was upset that such a great place with amazing food had horrible service. The servers repeatedly peaked over and dashed before we can even ask for more water. Last time we came we switched from the sitting room, to the table and I guess the waiter expected us to carry the menus AND waters with us to the table on the other side DURING a hectic time. So we waited about 10 mins before we were sure he wasnt returning with the menus and water. This time we ate in a group of 5 and asked for it all to come at the same time and the first dish came out about 10 mins before the rest and that person was all done by the time the rest of us got ours. Also the waitress didnt want to split the checks so one of us was left with the tax of the whole tables meal. Good thing was the food was great but the few times Ive been here the service was always bad

any regular patron of Sakura knows that those waitresses working there, (for years mind you) are seriously unfriendly. Yes, they remind you of drill sergeants. But its part of the charm, no really. You arent being fawned all over and there is nothing fake about it, just getting down to business. So I really could care less if the waitresses are curt. They dont mess the order up and they are fast, so there you go. All that being said, I sure do love this place. I love the fact that its BYOB too. Its not fancy or prancy, but its the type of place where you share your dining experience with others and might wind up sharing a glass of wine with a total stranger. Oh . . . and the sushi? Its great!

If someone you know suggests going to Sakura for a meal you should immediately run screaming for the hills, or beat them senseless with a brick wrapped in a towel. This restaurant takes the prize for awful service and waitstaff with a bad attitude. You had better know what you want by the time the waitress comes back to your table to take your order or good luck trying to get her to return, much less remember what it was you ordered. I cant believe there are so many good reviews for this place, particularly when there are way better restaurants than this one that serve better food for about the same price... without the attitude. This is one restaurant that I will never set foot in again.

Placed an order for pick up over the phone for the $14.00 sushi dinner. I ordered 2 spicy salmon and one spicy tuna roll and confirmed over the phone that my order would be $14.00. When I picked up my order I was charged $18.90. I was told that I couldnt order spicy rolls with that dinner combo and that they wouldnt honor the price I was told over the phone. Sakura also likes to exclude the dessert they advertise every time I place a sushi dinner order and I always have to specifically ask for it whether its pick up or dine in. The food is always good but I dont think Ill be coming back to Sakura until they improve their customer service.

Not wowed by the food, but certainly acceptable. What WAS disappointing was the service - unfortunately this seems to be another one of those places that didnt read the margin notes on how to make return customers. Hopefully the owner of the restaurant will read this and tell his waitstaff to let his patrons finish eating before trying to clear the table. ALL the persons at the table. ESPECIALLY after having to say it out loud more than once. I actually had to say "EXCUSE ME but Im NOT finished!" with my forkfull of food in the air in front of my face! WTF!

This place is spectacular. The fish could not be fresher and they could not be friendlier. For best results, consult with the sushi chefs on the freshest catches of the day, which can range from exquisite California Uni, live Scallop or Surf Clam sashimi, and even Hamachi or Salmon Toro. These guys are the real deal and serve sushi and sashimi in its pure form, unlike some of the overly "done-up" places in Boston. Its not cheap, but well worth it for the caliber of of cuisine you will find at this fantastic hole-in-the-wall.

Been going here for 14 years…..Great sushi. Great variety of vegan sushi. Low priced. Amazing value. Everything about your experience will be fabulous except……….consistently horrible, horrible service. They cant fire her becuase she is the bosss wife….So long as you know you will be forgotten, abused and treated like shoe leather, and have no expectations around the wait service, you will have a delightful, delicious and economical time. Hopefully you will get one of the new waitresses.

Speaking as a completely unbiased party, I think the only thing keeping this restaurant open is the food because it is certainly not the service. Try not to go here with a big crowd on a busy night because they will treat you as if you were a burden to them the whole time youre there, with sarcastic remarks and general unprofessionalism. I would say B+ for food but a failing grade for service and in retrospect, isnt it the service that gets us to come back? Just a thought.

Ive been having sushi and Japanese food for years and no place has ever come close to the quality that Sakura produces on a daily basis. Their staff are polite and professional, their menu is perfect and the food is spectacular. Inside its normally very quiet and calming, not to mention you can choose to sit on the floor traditionally. Its a great place and whenever I come back to Rhode Island I have to stop by at Sakura.

Sushi was OK. The service was bad. The fruit flies constantly landing in my sushi were pretty disgusting, then an employee decided to bring her baby next to our table and start bouncing it... and it urinated all over the table and booth across from us. That pretty much killed it for me...
