Ill start by saying I frequent lapaz often, but doubtful after my horrible experience last night. Jordan is the worst server I have ever had. I really did not want to tip but I have never been one not to do that but he truly deserved nothing. For starters, you had to ask numerous times for salsa; then he doesnt place anything on the table he hands it to you for you to take. No refills on drinks, sit empty unless you asked numerous times. Then brings the food and says here Ill let you disperse and hands me each plate to put in front of us. Never rounded on the table to see how it was, I asked for something and he gave me a thumbs up and walked away! Are you serious? What kind of service is that? Then I ordered salsa to go, brings out the cups and sits them on the table ... Im sorry was a bag too much to place my to go stuff in? Let me just carry my kids individual cups of salsa and my stuff. While this may sound minimal, at the end my kids asked for mints .. nope lays down a receipt on table .. brings it back and says nothing - just lays it down ... even after the kids asked for mint. He made zero conversation just asked what we wanted to drink and eat and thats it. I would say Im in lapaz at least once a week .. I doubt I return due this arrogant, unfriendly, unwelcoming server. Worst dining experience by far.

WOW was this meal BAD. From the tasteless guacamole (clearly not made freshly there) to the queso (are you kidding me? Who doesnt melt their cheese!), to the stale, warmed over store bought tortilla chips, to the greasy ground beef in my taco (tasted like store bought seasoning too), to the tomato sauce that they passed off as "burrito sauce", the whole meal was a disappointment. Even the draft beer was questionable, making me wonder when the draft lines were last cleaned. It is hard to screw up a tortilla chips and a draft beer, but they succeeded. At the price point, I can get 4 star Mexican food in DC or Montgomery County. Even when we complained, the server did not offer to bring over a manager or comp any of our items. Do yourself a favor, and if you are considering going here, DONT! When I walked in through a cloud of smoke from the smokers standing TWO FEET from the front door, I should have followed my instincts and found a different restaurant. Save yourself the aggravation. Frederick is FULL of good and great restaurants. This one is not on that list, however. Their average YELP rating of under 2.5 (nearly 100 reviewers) shows that I am not alone in my dissatisfaction and disappointment with this establishment and their food.

Ive eaten here a few times. Never impressed. A friend wanted to eat here so we could sit outside. She didnt take my suggestion to eat at Donner Bistro, and we both regretted it. At no point was the service friendly--from the hostess to the waitress. Granted, the only employees we encountered seemed to be high school students, but we were never asked how our meal was and had to sit with empty drinks for a while before the waitress came by to ask if we needed another. The free salsa that you get is bad. It just looks like some tomatoes were blended in a food processor until they were mostly water. Didnt taste good at all. I had the Flautas. Never had it before, so I dont have anything else to compare it to. But wish I had taken a picture of the plate, it looked so unappetizing. Two fried tortillas with chicken and cheese and covered with tomato sauce, which I thought was strange and didnt seem to go with the meal. My dining partner had one of the huevos dishes. I declined her offer to taste it, it didnt look good at all. I did taste the refried beans because she said they had an off flavor. And they did. I dont know how else to describe it. We each had a Corona. That was, unfortunately, the best part of the meal.

All the food is fresh and their salsa is great. It is NOT canned stewed tomatoes! It is fresh shredded tomatoes with onion and jalapeno mixed in. It is rather watery, but its free and a great appetizer. The margaritas have kick and flavor without being syrupy. And it has great atmosphere and an excellent location, especially during the summer if you can get a table outside. Ive been enough times to know that some entrees just arent good, but the fajitas, flautas and combo dinners are all fantastic. However, my husband thinks their food lacks flavor and generally kinda sucks (no qualms about the margaritas though!). So it must depend on your personal taste buds. Just a hint for those who didnt like their dishes: you can always tell your server you dont like your dinner. Any restaurant will get you something else and not charge you for the original entree. If your service sucks, say something to a manager! Thats why managers exist!

Ok look, La Paz is NOT comparible.....NOR should it be with other Mexican restaurants in town. La Paz stands alone as a good place to get tacos, burritos, and a variety of other Tex Mex cuisine that is just simple good. The food is not complex with lots of cilantro, cumin, or other Mexican food staple ingredients........but that is easily overlooked with the addition of their own red sauce, salsa and queso. What I can say is their queso IS better than any you get at other Mexican restaurants, this is not just my opinion, but that of alot of folks who typically say " this is good queso, but its no La Paz". The difference is something home made (La Paz) vs. some Velveeta/ Cheese Wiz substance poured from a jar. Overall, food is good, not great......queso is fantastic, atmosphere is nice, chill and one of the best outdoor dining spots. La Paz is a Frederick staple that is here to stay and is worth checking out. Cheers!

Good location. Food is mediocre at best. -Floutas and tortilla chips were okay. Nothing amazing. -Ordered chili con queso, literally looked like vomit. Frankly, it didnt taste much better. Was served by staff member with dirty rag in opposite hand. -Salsa was disgusting. Looked like it had just been put through a blender/food processor and then slopped into a bowl. Staff felt inattentive and apathetic. Didnt care for decor. Not bad, but kind of dated. Not cleanliest restaurant. Could use a vacuuming. Also felt a little sticky. Pricing was okay for amount of food. Quality of food though was too low for price. Probably wont be coming back. I feel like someone told me ownership has changed over the years. Maybe that is reason for condition of restaurant.

Dont waste your time or money at this place...! You will be disappointed...! The food is absolutely horrible...! There is nothing Mexican about this place, I dont know why they call it a "Mexican" restaurant. You get more flavor our of a frozen Mexican dinner at a grocery store than eating here. The salsa is just nasty, its shredded tomatoes in its own juice. The beans come out of a can, thats it, no seasoning, no flavor, nothing, really bad. The tortillas come out of a packaged bag, they are not made there, they dont even warm them up for you, they are not even named brand, they are very cheap and have no flavor, break easily and have a wax flavor, just horrible. You have been warned and you will say "I should have not eaten there"...
